Definitions
- the present invention relates to a device used for on-site mounting of a connector on a coaxial cable (see for example DE-A-42 23 146).
- the invention particularly finds its application in the field of telecommunications digital.
- Radio-relay systems are point to point connections using as support microwave wave transmission in the interval 1GHz-50GHz.
- a radio link allows establish two-way communication between two terminal stations, communication can pass through by intermediate stations separated by about 50 kilometers from each other. Each station is then connected to a cable telecommunications network.
- the equipment of these stations is essentially consisting of an antenna and a transceiver.
- the antenna usually consists of an opening in shape of a horn, which radiates a wave carried by a waveguide, and one or more deflectors of generally parabolic form. The radiant opening is always located at the focus of the parable.
- Guide wave is connected by its other end to a transceiver located in a room near the antenna.
- the waveguide is a support for very expensive transmission. So to limit its length, the transceiver has been for a few years directly installed on the antenna. The transceiver is now connected to the antenna by a guide short waves and the cable network of telecommunications by a cheaper coaxial cable than the waveguide.
- the coaxial cable is a high frequency support consisting of an inner copper conductor surrounded concentric shielding, copper or aluminum, in principle to the potential of the earth. They are separated by a polyethylene dielectric. The cable is, for elsewhere, covered with an insulating sheath.
- the connector allowing the connection between the cable and the transceiver is mounted once the cable in place.
- the connector basically includes a soul and a ferrule.
- the soul is a metal rod dig into which we thread and weld the central conductor of the coaxial cable.
- the ferrule is a metal ring which is placed around the shielding of the cable.
- the operations to be carried out on the coaxial cable when mounting a connector on the cable are essentially cutting and stripping operations of the cable insulating sheath. This preparation of cable is followed by a positioning step and soldering of the connector elements on the cable coaxial.
- Figures 1A and 1B illustrate the positioning of two types of connectors on coaxial cables of different diameters.
- a connector consisting of a core 1 and a ferrule 2 is mounted on a coaxial cable 3.
- Ports 5 and 6 are provided respectively in the core 1 and in the ferrule 2 to weld the core 1 on the central conductor 4 of the coaxial cable 3 and ferrule 2 on the shield of this same coaxial cable 3.
- the connectors shown are of type N in FIG. 1A and of type TNC in FIG. 1B.
- the dimensions of the connector elements are different depending on the type of connector.
- the positioning of the core 1 on the coaxial cable 3 is marked by a dimension d in FIG. 1A and by a dimension in Figure 1B. These dimensions represent the distance between a shoulder located near the point of the core and the end of the polyethylene dielectric. Dimensions d and d are respectively 15 millimeters and 6 millimeters.
- the quality of the connector mounting on the cable coaxial is essential in the field of digital telecommunications. Indeed, the transmission of digital information does not support any bad contacts at the connector. These bad contacts are frequently the cause of loss of synchronization or connection breaks.
- the mounting of the connectors can sometimes be very delicate. Indeed, it is generally carried out on site, in windy locations, and by all time. In case of maintenance, these working conditions are further compounded by the fact that it It is customary to operate at night, when the activity of the network is reduced.
- An object of the invention is to produce tools ergonomic for on-site mounting of a connector on a coaxial cable on site.
- the invention mainly consists of a device used for on-site mounting of a connector on a coaxial cable as defined in claim 1.
- the clamp may have an external shape cylindrical of appropriate diameter. In a form of preferred embodiment, this diameter is approximately 4 centimeters. This clamp will then constitute a device facilitating the maintenance in one hand of the end of a coaxial cable.
- a clamp having at least one channel for receiving a cable coaxial as well as positioning means for put in assembly position on the coaxial cable connector elements.
- the clamp comprises two channels for each receive a coaxial cable of different diameter.
- fixing means are provided. to fix the device at a point on the site, either by example on a pylon element.
- FIGS. 1A and Figure 2B are respectively an exploded view and a sectional view of a device for grip 10 of a coaxial cable. Because of their complementarity, these two figures will be described jointly.
- This device 10 is a portable clamp that adapts to the diameter of a cable by through a cable tie. It is composed of three elements: a female part 11, a male part 12 and a cable clamp 13.
- the female part 11 essentially comprises a cylindrical body whose diameter and condition external surface are studied for a good grip hand.
- the diameter of the cylindrical body is approximately 4 at 5 centimeters.
- This body is crossed axially by a bore 14 for receiving a nozzle 15 of the part male 12.
- the bore 14 is extended by a channel 16 of passage of a coaxial cable. Near its opening inlet, bore 14 is threaded while in its internal end, it ends with a span conical 17 forming the border with channel 16.
- the conical bearing 17 is intended to cooperate with the cable clamp 13.
- the cable clamp 13 slides like a piston into the bore 14 of the female part 11.
- the cable clamp 13 consists of a cylindrical ring 18 extended by a set of jaws 19 with conical ends cooperating with the conical bearing 17 of the female part 11.
- the male part 12 abuts against the cable clamp 13.
- the male part 12 consists of a body cylindrical with the same diameter and same surface condition external than the female part 11. This cylindrical body is extended by a threaded end piece 15 intended to be screwed in the threaded part of the bore 14 of the part female 11.
- the male part 12 is crossed axially by a channel 20 for the passage of a cable.
- channel 20 is an extension of channel 16 of the female part 11.
- this cable holding tool coaxial is very simple. At first, we unscrew the male part 12 from the female part 11 of so that the jaw set 19 is in a open position. Then, we pass the coaxial cable in channel 20, ring 18 and channel 16 then screw the male part 12.
- the set of jaws 19 closes on the cable and blocks it.
- This tool significantly improves the hand of coaxial cable. It allows in particular to keep gloves for carrying out stripping operations on the coaxial cable.
- FIGS. 3A to 3C are respectively a view of above, a side view and a side view of a positioning device 21 according to the invention used to hold and position a cable coaxial and a connector for their assembly.
- a positioning device 21 used to hold and position a cable coaxial and a connector for their assembly.
- Figures 2A and 2B Figures 3A to 3C will be described jointly.
- a element marked 39 is not shown in the figure 3B.
- a coaxial cable provided with a connector is placed in the positioning device 21 for illustrate the use of the device.
- the positioning device 21 comprises a base 22 extended vertically on one side by a first edge 23 and on the opposite side by a second edge 24.
- the first edge 23 is surmounted by a block of clamping 25 to form a clamp making it possible to block a coaxial cable 26.
- the clamp has two channels 27 and 28 to receive the coaxial cables.
- Each channel consists of two grooves arranged transversely in the surfaces opposite edge 23 and the block of tightening 25.
- the section of the different channels is suitable for different cable diameters coaxial.
- a clamping screw 29 passes vertically block 25 and engages in edge 23 to allow to block the coaxial cables 26 in their channels respective.
- the base 22 also includes a plan of reference 30 on which the coaxial cables are based 26.
- This reference plane 30 is located in the extension of channels 27 and 28 of the clamp and is bounded on one side by edge 23 and on the other side by a groove 31.
- the groove 31 makes it possible to position the connector ferrule on the cable shield coaxial previously cut and stripped.
- the width and the depth of groove 31 are studied to obtain optimal seating of the ferrule in groove 31.
- a edge 32 of groove 31 is slightly raised to the dielectric of the coaxial cable comes to a stop against this ledge.
- the device 21 also includes means for positioning and holding the core of the connector on the central conductor of the coaxial cable. This is why, the second edge 24 is crossed by two knurled screws 33 and 34 positioned respectively in the axis of channels 27 and 28 of the clamp.
- the screw rod knurled is drilled axially near its end free to receive the connector core, the conductor inside of the coaxial cable having been previously threaded through the connector core.
- the length of the rod knurled screws depends on the type of connector comes to mount on the coaxial cable.
- a stop is provided 35 in the shape of a hammer head.
- the stop 35 allows then adjust the length of the screw rod 34 emerging from the edge 24.
