- the branch fitting 102 is connected on one side to the hose 38 and connected on the other side to the hose 42.
- Suitable valves 104 and 106 are provided on the respective branches of the fitting 102.
- Hose 38 extends to the spray boom 40. It can be seen that the spray boom 40 includes a plurality of outlets 46 that serve to direct the flow of fire-retardant liquid downwardly of the spray boom.
- the second hose 42 acts as a mixing chamber for the foam and water and is stored on the reel 56 for convenience. The hose 42 then passes from the reel 56 toward the spray gun 44.
- the spray gun can be properly manipulated so as to specifically direct the fire-retardant liquid toward the fire.

- the operator of the vehicle can fill the water tanks at a remote location by disconnecting the conduit 16 from the pipe 90.
- the manipulation of the coupling 98 serves to properly carry out this operation.

- the apparatus and methods of the invention permit a single operator to effectively combat fires, lay down firebreak lines, protect exposed structures, and provide mop-up capabilities after fires have been brought under control. All of these fire fighting options are available in any order, combination, or intermixed while in operation in the fire theater with no time consuming adjustments required by the operator.

Description
Claims (9)
- A fire fighting apparatus comprising a vehicle (20) having no less than four wheels (22), there being a first fluid tank (12) supported on the said vehicle to receive a fire retardant liquid, a conduit (16) for passing the fluid to the exterior of the vehicle and a pump (18) connected to the conduit (16) for passing the fluid under pressure through the conduit, and a foam concentrate tank (32) connected to the conduit (16) characterised in that the vehicle is an all-terrain vehicle having a turning radius of less than 3.05 metres (10 ft.) and a length of no more than 3.05 metres (10 ft.) and a width of less than 1.37 metres (4.5 ft.), the vehicle having a second fluid tank (14) supported on the vehicle at a different location from that of the first fluid tank (12), there being a pipe means (74, 90) connecting the first fluid tank (12) to the second fluid (14) tank for causing a flow of fluid between the first and second fluid tanks, the said conduit (16) extending from both said first (12) and said second (14) fluid tanks.
- The apparatus of Claim 1, said vehicle having a platform (28) positioned at a rear end of said vehicle (20), said first fluid tank (12) and said second fluid tank (14) being positioned on said platform (28).
- The apparatus of Claim 1, said vehicle having a first platform (218) positioned at a forward area of said vehicle and a second platform (220) positioned at a rear area of said vehicle, said first fluid tank (204) being positioned on said first platform (218), said second fluid tank (206) being positioned on said second platform (220).
- The apparatus of Claim 1, 2 or 3 wherein said foam concentrate tank (32) is positioned on said vehicle (20) generally adjacent to one of said first (12) and second (14) fluid tanks.
- The apparatus of Claim 4 wherein said foam concentrate tank (32) has a line (34) extending to and communicating with said conduit (16), said line (34) connecting through an induction-metering device (36) to said conduit (16), said pump (18) being positioned forward of said line (34) along said conduit (16).
- The apparatus of any one of the preceding Claims wherein said pipe means (90) is connected to a communicate with said conduit (16), said pipe means (90) being detachably connected (98) to said conduit (16), said pump (18) being positioned forward of the connection (98) of said pipe means (90) to said conduit (16).
- The apparatus of any one of the preceding Claims wherein said conduit (16) comprises:a conduit (16) extending from said first (12) and said second (14) fluid tanks, said pump (18) being connected to said conduit (16);a first hose (38) extending from said conduit (16) and being connected to a spray boom (40); anda second hose (42) extending from said conduit (16) and being connected to a spray gun (44).
- The apparatus of Claim 7 wherein said spray boom (40) is attached to said vehicle (20) at one end of said vehicle, said spray boom (40) having outlets (46) directed downwardly, said spray gun (44) being supported on a top side of said vehicle.
- The apparatus of Claim 7 or 8 wherein said second hose (42) extends around a reel (56), said reel (56) being positioned on said vehicle (20).
