Definitions

  • the present invention relates to an adhesive-dispensing device of any king on perimetrical bands of bottom portions in shoes, comprising a plurality of dispensing sectors adapted to distribute an adhesive material and disposed consecutively after each other so as to define a dispensing strip corresponding to a perimetric band of a shoe, see EP-A-0 138 474.
  • some known techniques contemplate the use of devices equipped with dispensing strips or spreading areas having a partially variable outline, so as to conform at least partly to different shoe shapes.
  • an adhesive applicator device which comprises two dispensing sectors at the toe which are articulated with each other and two leg sectors each articulated on the adjacent toe sector.
  • This device has some limits that greatly impair practical use of same.
  • the adhesive-dispensing strip exclusively covers the toe and flank areas of a shoe and consequently does not enable adhesive to be spread at the arch junction region of the shoe itself.
  • the technical task underlying the present invention is to devise an adhesive applicator device on perimetrical bands of bottom portions in shoes capable of substantially obviating the above mentioned drawbacks.
  • this device enables, on the one hand, the shape of the adhesive dispensing strip to be varied at the toe on passing from a square-toed shoe to a pointed shoe through all intermediate shapes and, on the other hand, it enables the same to be modified in width and length, above all in the case in which there is an increase in length from the toe to the arch region, as compared with a square-toed shoe of same size.
  • Another important aim is to envisage a dispensing device capable of being adapted to the different shoe patterns by means of simple and quick adjusting operations to be carried out either manually or electronically.
  • an adhesive applicator device on perimetrical bands and bottom portions of shoes which is characterized in that said distributing sectors comprise a first set of sectors corresponding to the toe area of a shoe and the side areas close to said toe area and a second set of sectors corresponding to the shoe arch junction region and comprising arch sectors, and in that said device comprises: hinging means interposed between the sectors of said first and second sets, actuating means active on said dispensing sectors and adapted to dispose the same at a plurality of positions capable of forming said dispensing strip into a plurality of shapes at least included between a first limit shape corresponding to a square-toed or large-toe shoe and a second limit shape corresponding to a pointed or tapering-toe shoe, and means for conveying an adhesive material at least to said dispensing sectors.
  • the adhesive applicator device on perimetrical bands of bottom portions in shoes in accordance with the invention has been generally identified by reference numeral 1.
  • It comprises a plurality of dispensing sectors generally denoted by 2 and each consisting of a body inside which one or more delivery cylinders 3 of known type are inserted, which cylinders are adapted to supply adhesive material when they are pressed against the surface to be cemented.
  • the dispensing sectors 2 are disposed consecutively after each other so that, taken as a whole, they define a dispensing strip 4 identified in the drawings by the respective axis and adaptable to a perimetric band of a shoe.
  • the dispensing sectors 2 comprise a first set 2a of dispensing sectors corresponding to the toe area of a shoe and the side areas next to said toe area, and a second set 2b of sectors corresponding to the shoe arch junction.
  • the first set 2a in turn comprises a pair of toe sectors 5 corresponding to the shoe toe area, a pair of intermediate sectors 6 and a pair of rear sectors 7 corresponding to the side or flank areas of said shoe.
  • the second sector set 2b is comprised of a pair of arch sectors 8 of suitable upper profile so that they can adapt to the shoe arch junction region.
  • hinging means 9 (Fig. 4) practically enabling formation of an open and articulated chain consisting of said sectors in which the pair of arch sectors 8 defines the free ends of said chain.
  • the hinging means 9 comprises a fixed front pivot pin 10 at which the toe sectors 5 terminate, two intermediate pivot pins 11 between the toe sectors 5 and intermediate sectors 6, two median pivot pins 12, located between the intermediate sectors and rear sectors 7, and two back pivot pins 13 included between the arch sectors 8 and rear sectors 7.
  • Acting on the dispensing sectors 2 is actuating means 14 (Fig. 3) adapted to arrange said sectors in a plurality of positions capable of forming the dispensing strip 4 into a plurality of shapes differentiated from each other both longitudinally and transversely and in particular included between a first limit shape corresponding to a square-toed shoe (see Fig. 4) and a second limit shape, corresponding to a tapering-toe or pointed shoe (see Fig. 6).
  • the device further comprises conveying means 15 (Fig. 2) for the adhesive material maintained in a liquid state by heating by means of resistors incorporated into a heating plate 16 defining a first portion of a supporting base 17 of the device itself.
  • the actuating means 14 comprises first actuating means 18 (Fig. 3) adapted to move the dispensing sectors 2 in a prevailingly longitudinal direction and second actuating means 19 adapted to move at least part of said sectors in a prevailingly transverse direction.
  • the first actuating means 18 comprises a rear half-plate 20 movable longitudinally of the supporting base 17 for slide engagement with a pair of bar-shaped elements 21 fastened to a front half-plate 22, in turn made integral with the supporting base 17 by connecting screw means.
  • the movable rear half-plate 20 and fixed front half-plate 22 have respective L-shaped end portions 20a and 22a (Fig. 1) disposed upon each other in a matching fit, for mutual sliding and abutment.
  • the rear-plate 20 stroke is delimited by appropriate oblong slots 23, adapted to house socket head screws 24 inserted in the supporting base 17.
  • the arch sectors 8 bear on the rear plate 20 and are slidably engaged therewith in a transverse direction, but restrained from moving in a longitudinal direction. This type of engagement is accomplished , for each of said sectors, by a transverse guide bar 25 (Fig. 2) integral at the upper part thereof with a corresponding arch sector 8 and housed at the lower part thereof into a transverse slide groove or seating 26 (Figs. 1 and 8) formed in the rear plate 20 itself.
  • the toe sectors 5 slidably bear on the front half-plate 22 and are articulated on the front fixed pivot pin 10, integral with the front half-plate 22 itself.
  • each intermediate sector 6 Joined to the lower part of each intermediate sector 6 is a substantially flattened adhesive-dispensing body 27 having a bearing surface also adapted to support, in addition to the respective intermediate sector 6 with which it is integral, the adjacent rear sector 7.
  • the adhesive-dispensing body 27 is interposed between two adjacent sectors, i. e. an intermediate sector 6 and a rear sector 7, and the front and rear half-plates on which it slidably bears.
  • Each median pivot pin 12 is integral with the corresponding dispensing body 27 and the rear sector 7 can oscillate about this pin and slide on the dispensing body 27 itself.
  • the latter is restrained in its movements by a downwardly-projecting guide pin fitted in a guide oblong slot 29 (Fig. 8) formed in the underlying rear half-plate 20.
  • drive means 30 (Fig. 3) comprising a transverse block 31, integral with the rear ends 21a of the bar-shaped elements 21, and a longitudinal operating screw 32 to be rotated manually or, optionally, by an electric motor connected with electronic control units.

  • the second actuating means 19, intended for carrying out displacements in a prevailingly transverse direction of at least part of the dispensing sectors 2 of the device comprises a transverse-displacement unit 35, as shown in the accompanying drawings, for the arch sectors 8, adapted to move these sectors close to or away from each other depending on the shoe size at the arch junction region and to orientate said sectors depending on whether the shoe being worked is a right shoe or a left shoe.
  • auxiliary transverse-displacement units may be also provided; they are capable of altering the distance between the median pivot pins 12 so that, practically, adjustment of the width of the adhesive-dispensing strip formed by the device is enabled substantially independently of the variations in length that the device is adapted to carry out by means of said first longitudinal-displacement actuating means 18.
  • the transverse-displacement unit 35 active on the arch sectors 8 comprises, in addition to the transverse guide bars 25 integral with the last-mentioned sectors and the previously described related slide grooves 26, operating means 36 for moving the arch sectors 8 close to and away from each other and drive elements 37 to orientate said arch sectors so as to make them suited for a right or left shoe.
  • the drive elements 37 in turn comprise a pair of plate-like elements 38 integral at their end with a first guide rod 39 slidable in a projection 40 (Fig. 2) joined to the rear half-plate 20.
  • the transverse screw 41 has two opposite-hand screw threaded areas coupled with nut screws fitted in rear tail pieces 8a of the arch sectors 8, so that rotation of the screw itself may cause said sectors to move close to or away from each other.
  • the second guide rod 42 is slidably coupled with said rear tail pieces 8a.
  • the plate-like elements 38 and guide rods 39 and 42 constitute a slider transversely movable relative to the rear half-plate and for example operable either manually or by a fluid-actuated cylinder, or by an electronic-adjustment electric motor.
  • the adhesive conveying means 15 comprises a plurality of channels, ducts and cavities capable of enabling distribution of adhesive material to the dispensing sectors 2 at some pivot pins between said sectors.
  • inflow of adhesive material from the heating plate 16 is carried out by a feeding plate 43 interposed between the heating plate 16 and front 22 and rear 20 half-plates so as to define an upper portion of the supporting base 17.
  • the feeding plate 43 (Fig. 7) has, at a back area thereof, an inlet 44 from which two longitudinal channels 45 depart; they are formed in the thickness of the plate itself and their ends open into through holes 46, 47 passing through the front half-plate 22 too, so that they communicate both with the front fixed pin 10 which is internally pierced and with the pair of toe sectors 5.
  • Feeding to the fixed pin 10 may take place directly from the heating plate 16. In this manner use of plate 43 can be eliminated.
  • the toe sectors 5 are rotatable about the front pin 10, they are provided at the lower part thereof with an adhesive-collecting cavity of bowed conformation 48 the centre of curvature of which is at the front pin 10.
  • the rear half-plate 20 has a rain collecting cavity 49 at the lower part thereof which extends longitudinally over a length corresponding to the longitudinal stroke of the half-plate itself.
  • auxiliary cavities 50 formed at the bottom of the transverse guide grooves 26 an, in communication with the main cavity 49.
  • auxiliary cavities 50 are in turn in communication with hollows 51 and ducts 52 formed in the transverse guide bars 25, each integral with the respective arch sector 8.
  • Conveying of adhesive material to the intermediate and rear sectors also departs from the main cavity 49 through a pair of main channels 53 formed in the rear half-plate 20 and diverging towards the lateral sides of said half-plate.
  • Each dispensing body 27 comprises an upper plate-like element 55, integral with the corresponding intermediate sector 6, and a lower plate-like element 56 substantially matching with the upper plate-like element and integral therewith.
  • the lower plate-like element 56 has a substantially longitudinal hollow 57 (Figs. 9 and 11) adapted to transfer adhesive material from the corresponding main channel 53 to a front area of the respective intermediate sector 6 and a median small channel 58 an end portion 58a of which corresponds with the median pivot pin 12.
  • Said pin 12 is internally hollow and provided with a passageway 59 for feeding of the rear sector 7 with adhesive material.
  • the upper plate-like element comprises a bridge cavity 60, adapted to bring the longitudinal hollow 57 into communication with the median small channel 58, as shown in Fig. 11, and a through cavity 61 coincident with the end portion 58a of the median small channel 58.
  • the arch sectors 8 are also provided to be adjusted and driven independently of each other, instead of being simultaneously driven in rotation by the transverse screw 41.
  • each of the arch sectors 8 is divided into an upper portion 8b and a lower portion 8c.
  • the lower portion 8c at the respective back pin 13 has a fork-shaped end 8d which is mounted on fulcrum 13; in addition the lower portion 8c is capable of sliding transversely along the transverse guide bar 25.
  • each arch sector 8 Bearing on the lower portion 8c of each arch sector 8 is the upper portion 8b thereof which, in turn, is pivotally mounted on the back pin 13 relative to which said upper portion is free to rotate.
  • the upper portion 8b can simultaneously move in a longitudinal direction over the lower portion 8c.
  • the lower portion 8c of the arch sectors 8 has a driving arm 62 at the opposite end relative to the fork-shaped one 8a.
  • Said arm 62 projects outwardly and its end 62a is slidably engaged in a longitudinal direction on a slider 63. This is due to the fact that the driving arm 62 must be in a position to slide longitudinally when the longitudinal operating screw 32 is acted upon, in order to adjust the overall length of the adhesive applicator device for passing from a tapering-toe shoe to a square-toed shoe.
  • drive means for displacement in a transverse direction of the arch sectors 8 is provided, not shown in the figures, which acts on the part placed under the slider 63, so as to control displacement of the arch sectors 8 either individually, at the moment that a correct operating position of the device is to be determined, or simultaneously, when passage from a right shoe to a left shoe is required.
  • the intermediate sectors 6 and related underlying adhesive-dispensing bodies 27 can rotate about the intermediate pins 11, partly sliding over the front half-plate 22 and partly sliding over the rear half-plate 20, depending on the displacement limits imposed by the guide slot 29 formed in the rear half-plate 20, to the guide pins 28 integral with the dispensing bodies 27.
  • the rear sectors 7 can in turn rotate about the back pins 13 sliding over the rear half-plate 20.
  • a continuous passage from a square-toed shoe as shown in Fig. 4 to a medium-toe shoe(see Fig. 5), until a tapering-toe shoe (see Fig. 6) is made possible.
  • the desired shape is locked by intervening on the socket head screws 24 fastening the rear half-plate 20 to the supporting base 17.
  • the adhesive material from the heating plate 16 flows into the inlet 44 of the feeding plate 43 and is conveyed both to the longitudinal channels 45 of said feeding plate and to the main cavity 49 of the rear half-plate 20.
  • the adhesive material is delivered to the toe sectors 5 and the front fixed pin 10.
  • the adhesive material is conveyed both to the arch sectors 8, through the auxiliary cavities 50 of the transverse slide grooves 26, the hollows 51 and ducts 52 of the transverse guide bars 25, and to the main channels 53 of the rear half-plate 20 itself. From the main channels 53 the adhesive flows, through passage holes 54, into the longitudinal hollows 57 of each lower plate-like element 56 and is admitted, through the bridge cavity 60 of the upper plate-like elements 55, to the intermediate sectors 6. Finally, the adhesive material by flowing through the median small channels 58 and passageways 59, reaches both the median pins 12 and rear sectors 7.
  • the invention achieves important advantages.
  • the device in accordance with the invention enables the adhesive-dispensing strip to be adapted to any shoe shape by means of simple and quick adjustments and it can be easily interchanged with other devices of the traditional type as it has the same bulkiness as the latter.
  • the device makes it possible to dispense glue at the arch junction region of a shoe as well, without additional interventions and operations.
  • the device of the invention not only enables the dispensing strip to be efficiently elongated in the case of pointed shoes, but also makes it possible to vary the transverse distance between the arch sectors, as well as between other sectors, independently of possible variations in length, by means both of the transverse-displacement unit shown and of other displacement units that can be added with ease.
