Abstract

The device has a support (1) such as a card which has a double scale (4) inscribed upon it with different graduations on either side. Each of the two scales is fixed and uniform along its length. Additional columns may be added to either side of the double scale (4) and numbers added such that one currency e.g. Euros is converted to another. A distinctive element such as colour is added as an aid to fixing the decimal place in any conversion. The two left hand columns (2,6) share one colour, the two middle columns (3,5) share a second colour and the two right hand columns (12,13) share a third colour.

Il existe des dispositifs permettant de convertir une monnaie en une autre monnaie, principalement par le calcul, par l'intermédiaire de machines à calculer plus ou moins simples. Mais quelle que soit la simplicité d'un dispositif à calculer, il a un coût de fabrication non négligeable, son utilisation à l'extérieur nécessite en principe les deux mains, il a une certaine fragilité vis-à-vis des risques de chocs, de pliures, de l'humidité.
Il est aussi possible de convertir une valeur exprimée dans une monnaie en sa valeur équivalente dans une autre monnaie par le calcul mental ou écrit mais lorsque de nombreuses valeurs ont à être converties rapidement, ce calcul n'est pas simple et le risque d'erreur est grand. C'est le cas lorsqu'on fait des achats dans un supermarché où l'on s'ap provisionne avec de nombreux produits de prix différents, lorsque la monnaie qui indique le prix de ces produits a récemment changé ou lorsqu'on est à l'étranger et que l'on veut comparer le prix de ces produits au prix équivalent dans son propre pays, dans sa propre monnaie.There are devices which make it possible to convert a currency into another currency, mainly by calculation, by means of more or less simple calculating machines. la nécessité de mettre à la disposition de chaque européen un outil simple de conversion.

En référence à la figure 1, le dispositif comporte un support 1 représenté ici sous la forme d'une carte sur laquelle est inscrite une double-graduation 4 comportant une échelle différente de chaque côté. Les deux échelles sont fixes l'une par rapport à l'autre et uniformes. Des colonnes de chiffres inscrits de part et d'autre de la double-graduation forment des nombres représentant chacun une valeur que peut choisir l'utilisateur pour convertir une monnaie en une autre monnaie, le nombre de colonnes n'est pas limité; à chaque valeur lue d'un côté de la double graduation 4 correspond la même valeur convertie dans l'autre monnaie de l'autre côté de la double graduation. La conversion fonctionne dans les deux sens, d'une monnaie vers l'autre. Le nom des monnaies 7, 8 est inscrit de part et d'autre de la double graduation en toutes lettres, en abrégé ou en symbole, dans les exemples des figures de 1 à 4 il s'agit de l'euro et du franc. Un élément distinctif analogue de part et d'autre de la double-graduation permet d'identifier le rang du chiffre dans un nombre et l'ordre de grandeur du nombre issu de la conversion; cet élément distinctif est de préférence la couleur, auquel cas chaque colonne de chiffres est colorée d'une couleur différente pour les colonnes juxtaposées d'un même côté de la double-graduation. les colonnes correspondantes de l'autre côté de la double-graduation sont colorées de la même couleur. conversion de 1 euro en francs: la graduation en face de 1 euro indique sur l'autre échelle 650, l'élément distinctif de la colonne 2 étant le même que celui de la colonne 6, c'est à droite de cette dernière colonne que se trouve la virgule et le résultat est donc: 1 euro = 6,50 francs (cette valeur de la conversion est donnée en exemple de façon arbitraire, la valeur définitive de l'euro n'étant pas fixée au jour de la présente demande).
conversion de 10 euros en francs: la graduation en face de 10 euros indique sur l'autre échelle 650, l'élément distinctif de la colonne 3 (ici le fait de ne pas avoir de signe particulier) est le même que celui de la colonne 5 c'est donc dans cette dernière colonne que se trouve le chiffre des unités, le résultat est donc: 10 euro = 65 francs. Le processus est le même pour un nombre plus grand.
