Claims (4)

  1. An electrical connector with a housing (1) made of a plastics material with at least one row of receiving chambers (3) for the contact elements (19), the said receiving chambers being positioned alongside one another and separated from one another by cross-members (2), and with at least one locking arm (6) moulded in a single piece on the external housing wall, which locking arm is movable from an open position into a locking position and swingable about an axis (7), has a roughly L-shaped cross-section, frees the cross-section of the respective receiving chambers (3) in the open position and narrows their cross-section in the locking position, in which it retains the therein located contact element (19) between a limit stop and the free end of the locking arm (6), this free end projecting through at least one recessed opening (14) in the housing (1), and the locking arm (6) is stopped in the locking position relative to the housing (1), characterised in that the short side piece (11) of the locking arm (6) effecting locking of the contact elements (19) and the opening (14) recessed in the housing (1) for receiving the said locking arm extend across the row of receiving chambers (3), in which arrangement at least one member (9) serving as a breaking point is provided in the open position of the locking arm (6) between one margin of the opening (14) and the free margin of the short side piece, at least one of the boundary edges (17) of the opening (14) crossing the receiving chambers cuts the swing path of the small side piece (11) of the locking arm, and the small side piece (11) is held with positive fit within the housing (1) in the locking position, in which arrangement the snap-in edge (12) of the free end of the short side piece (11) - the said snap-in edge being positioned opposite the axis (7) of the locking arm (6) - is separated from this axis (7) by a distance slightly smaller than the distance of the boundary edge (17) of the opening (14) adjacent to the axis, and the short side piece (11) of the locking arm (6) is formed in a single piece over its whole length.
