- An apparatus for printing a marking-free endless sheet (1) with print images of a first predetermined length (D) by a printer (2), wherein after the printing operation the endless sheet (1) is divided into portions of a second predetermined length (L) by means of a separating device (4) and the print images have to be applied to-the endless sheet (1) in precise positional relationship in relation to the separation locations (T) between the portions, and having a sensor (3) for controlling the printing operation in dependence on the length of the endless sheet (1) between the separating device (4) and the printer (2), wherein the forward feed movement of the endless sheet (1) occurs through the printer (2) even without a printing operation and the printer (2) is activated to implement a printing operation which involves only a single print image by an output signal of the sensor (3) whenever the length of the endless sheet (1) between the separating device (4) and the printer (2) is a predetermined multiple of the second predetermined length (L).
- An apparatus according to claim 1 characterised in that the sensor (3) is an optical sensor which detects the position of a dancer roller (6) which is arranged movably in such a way that the position of the dancer roller (6) depends on the length of the endless sheet (1) between the separating device (4) and the printer (2).
- An apparatus according to claim 1 or claim 2 characterised in that there is provided an offset roller (5) by means of which the length of the endless sheet (1) between the separating device (4) and the printer (2) can be altered.
- An apparatus according to one of claims 1 to 3 characterised in that there is provided a device (7) by means of which the printer speed is controlled.
