Abstract

The retaining element for a boot on a ski board comprises a body (3) which carries a retaining jaw with two webs (6,7). There is spring (14) housed in the body and a chain of connecting elements (6a,7a) between each web and spring such that the spring opposes outward displacement of either web. A vertically movable support plate supports part of the boot. A transmission connection activated by movement of the support plate modifies the return force the spring opposes to movement of each web. The transmission connection acts in a different way on the return force than that the spring exerts on each web. This results in the release threshold of one of the webs to be momentarily greater than that of the other web.

Description

The invention relates to a retaining element for the front of a shoe on a gliding board. Secondly, the invention relates to a set front elements intended to retain the two shoes of a skier on one or boards for sliding.

In known manner, a retaining element has a body, a jaw of restraint carried by the body. Under the action of the efforts of the shoe, the jaw is movable laterally on either side from a position centered against the force of reminder of a spring housed in the body.

Among the retaining elements, the invention relates more particularly to elements which are fitted with a vertically movable probe on which part of the shoe rests, the depression of the probe causing a variation in the force that the shoe must overcome to move the jaw.

Thus, we know from the patent application published under the number DE-OS-33 07 022 a retaining element with a movable front support plate. Pressing the shoe on the plate produces a lowering of the force of reminder that the spring exerts on the jaw. The lowering of the restoring force has intended to compensate for the increase in friction caused by support stronger shoe on the backing plate.

Conversely, we know from the patent application published under the number EP 674 925 a retaining element with which a movable probe is associated. The depression of the probe, for example, under the effect of a variation of support of the skier, causes an increase in the restoring force that the shoe must overcome to be released. The increase in the restoring force here has the effect of make the retention of the shoe in the front retaining element more firm, especially at the end of a turn when the skier comes on the back of the skis, and he exerts a significant lateral driving force on the front of his shoes.

Such devices give good results in their field of application respective. However, they act on the jaw the same way for both direction of movement that the jaw can present.

We know that a skier's knees can endure more or less lower before an injury occurs, depending on the direction in which feet are trained. We know that the skier's knee, which is stressed during a fall in torsion is more fragile for a torsion of the corresponding leg to an inward rotation of the foot than to an outward rotation.

In this area, the patent application published under the number EP 667,174 describes a front retaining element equipped with an oscillating support plate for a rolling movement around a median longitudinal axis. The tilting of the pedal only occurs in one direction from a position of horizontal rest. The tilting produces a decrease in the restoring force that the shoe must win to be released by the jaw. However, this effect of decrease only occurs in a fall where the shoe twists in the jaw. In addition, the same reduction in the restraint force is applied to the two jaw retaining wings.

The problem posed by the invention is to improve the operation of retaining elements with variable return force, in order to make them better more efficient and safer.

According to the invention, this problem is solved by a retaining element of a boot on a ski intended to release the boot in the event of stress excessive, including a body, a holding jaw carried by the body having two wings, a spring housed in the body, a chain of connecting elements between each wing of the jaw and the spring, provided so that the spring opposes in the same way to the displacement of one or the other of the wings of the jaw towards outside, a movable support plate in a vertical direction provided for receive support from part of the shoe, an activated transmission link by the movement of the movable support plate, intended to modify the force of reminder that the spring opposes the movement of each of the wings, and characterized by the fact that the transmission link is connected to each of the chains of connecting elements by different connecting elements which are provided for the transmission link to further modify the restoring force that the spring opposes the outward movement of one of the wings that the force reminder that the spring opposes the outward movement of the other wing.

It is also solved by a shoe retaining element on a ski designed to release the shoe in the event of excessive stress, including a body, a retaining jaw carried by the body having two wings, a spring housed in the body, a chain of connecting elements between each wing of the jaw and the spring, provided so that the spring is opposed in the same way to the displacement of one or the other of the wings of the jaw towards the outside, a movable support plate in a vertical direction intended to receive the support part of the shoe, a transmission link activated by the movement of the movable support plate, and characterized in that the connection of transmission is connected to only one of the link element chains between one of the wings and the spring, and that it is intended to modify only the restoring force that the spring exerts on the outward movement of said wing, without modifying the restoring force that the spring exerts on the movement towards the outside of the other wing.

Depending on what is desired, the restoring force that the spring opposes to the displacement of the jaw is lowered to the side where the knee is most fragile, or it is increased on the side where the knee is most resistant.

According to a second solution, this restoring force increases for both direction of rotation, like EP 674 925, but it increases more side where the knee is strongest.

Thus, the retaining element is more efficient and safer insofar as it allows to move back momentarily, according to the variations of support of the shoe, the shoe release threshold, but where the release threshold is momentarily higher on the side where the skier's knee is more resistant.

The fact that the variations in the recall effort are momentary also allows to better control under what circumstances these variations must occur.

The invention will be better understood by referring to the description below and the annexed drawings which form an integral part thereof.

Figure 1 shows the middle part of a ski on which a set of shoe retainer is assembled. The set shown includes a front retainer 1, rear retainer 2, which are respectively designed to releasably retain the front and rear of a shoe.

The front retaining element 1 has a jaw 5 carried by a body 3. The body is itself carried by a base 4 by which the retaining element is connected to skiing.

Ces différents éléments forment les chaínes d'éléments de liaison entre chacune des ailes 6 et 7 et le ressort de rappel 14.Referring to Figure 3, the jaw 5 of the element 1 comprises two independent retaining wings 6 and 7 respectively articulated around an axis 8, 9, embedded in the body 3. Each wing has a return beyond its axis wing 6a, 7a, which is engaged against the bearing face of the head 11 of a tie rod 12. The pulling is mobile, it is guided in a housing 13 of the body 3 which contains by elsewhere a return spring 14. The spring bears forwards against a transverse wall 16 of the body 3. It is crossed by the tie rod, and its front part is in support against a plug 17 screwed to the end of the tie rod. Screwing the cap on the tie rod determines the initial pre-stress of the spring. These different elements form the chains of connecting elements between each of the wings 6 and 7 and the return spring 14.

The jaw 5 also comprises a sole clamp 10 for vertical retention which is integral with the body 3. Towards the rear, the front element has a plate support 19 which is provided to receive support from the front of the shoe.

In known manner, in operation, the front of the shoe requests one or more the other of the two wings in a lateral direction, against the restoring force of the spring. The release of the shoe occurs when the requested wing has opened a determined angle sufficient to allow the shoe to escape.

The rear element 2 illustrated in the figures is also a known element which will not be described in detail. It has a retaining jaw 20 movable by relative to a body 21 against the return force of a spring. As is known, the body 20 is slidably mounted along a longitudinal slide 22, against the return force of a recoil spring which ensures the gripping of the shoe between the two retainers.

In front of the jaw, the element 2 has a support plate 23 provided to receive support from the back of the shoe.

In addition, the support plate 23 is movable in a substantially vertical direction. For this, the slide 22 is guided in a base plate 25, and it can pivot on an amplitude limited angular around its rear end which is fitted into the rim rear 26 of the base plate 25. The base plate 25 is integrally connected to the ski, and it has two lateral wings for guiding the slide 22. preferably, each wing closes above each edge of the slide, this which forms two stops 28, 29 which limit the upward movement of the slide. Downward, the movement of the slide is limited by the bottom of the plate. base 25.

Preferably, the slide is held suspended by a block of material elastically deformable 30, for example an elastomer block. Any other means suitable elastic may also be suitable, for example springs.

The rear support plate 23 thus mounted functions as a probe which reacts to variations in the support of the rear end of the shoe. Movement . vertical of the probe is transmitted to the front retaining element by a connection of transmission which will now be described.

Forward, the rocker has a support face 34 approximately vertical, which is intended to bear against the bearing face 35 of a plate mobile transmission 36, which connects the two retaining elements.

In the illustrated embodiment, the transmission plate 36 is connected on the side of the front retaining element to a sliding element 38 in the manner of a drawer in a longitudinal direction in a base plate 39 located under the base 4 of the front retaining element. The base 4 and the base plate 39 are integrally connected to the ski, or else together, for example by means of the same screws, or by successive connections, that is to say that the base 4 is connected solidly with the base plate 39 which is itself solidly connected to the ski. Any suitable means of joining is suitable.

The connection between the drawer element 38 and the transmission plate 36 is a push link, i.e. a link which allows the transmission of forces longitudinal in the longitudinal direction of sliding of the drawer 38. preferably, as illustrated, the link also allows pivoting angle of the transmission plate.

For example, as can be seen in FIG. 1, the connection is ensured by two complementary forms nested one inside the other.

The connection is also covered by a deformable cover 41 which is assembled on one side to the base or the base plate, and on the other to the base plate transmission. For example, the cover 41 is assembled to the base 4, and carries the backing plate 19. Towards the rear, the cover has a tongue with a stud engaged in the transmission plate 36.

The transmission plate 36 is thus movable between a high position shown in Figure 1 where its rear end is above the slide 22, and a low position where its rear end is at the level of the slide, and where the drive plate is raised relative to the ski.

The lifting of the support plate is done in an elastic way by means of a arm resiliently returned by a spring. Preferably, as is shown, the arm in question is the upper arm 42 of a ski brake 43. The upper arm is articulated on a support which is a forward extension of the rear base plate 25. It is recalled by a spring 45, and extends towards the bottom of each side of the ski by a braking arm provided to slow the race of the ski in case of shoe release.

La face d'appui 35 de la plaque de transmission 36 se trouve à l'arrière du sabot 47.The transmission plate carries in its rear part a shoe 47 with a shoe plate 48 provided to receive the support of the shoe at the time of the engagement of the shoe in the retaining elements. The commitment of the shoe in the retaining elements causes the lowering of the plate 36, and the raising of the braking arms 46, against the force of elastic return of spring 45. Upon voluntary or accidental release of the shoe, the spring 45 ensures both the descent of the braking arms, and the reassembly of the transmission plate. The bearing face 35 of the plate transmission 36 is located at the rear of shoe 47.

The length of the transmission plate 36 is provided so that in position low, its bearing face 35 is located against the bearing face 34 of the rocker 32. For this, for example, as shown, the drive plate is in two sliding mounted parts, and assembled together by a screw-nut assembly. Any other suitable means is suitable, in particular different plates of connection of different length, provided for different spacings of the elements retainers that have been determined based on different length ranges of shoe.

The assembly which has just been described operates in the following manner. AT engagement of the shoe, the transmission plate 36 is brought into contact with the rocker 32. The shoe rests on both the shoe plate 48 and the support plate 23, but transmits most of its vertical support efforts to the support plate 23. The variations of support of the shoe on the plate 23 induce movements of the slide 22, which rotates the rocker 32, which causes the displacement of the transmission plate 36 according to a longitudinal direction.

The transmission plate 36 carries with it the drawer element 38.

Under the head 11 of the tie rod 12, the drawer element 38 has a stud 50 which passes through the upper wall of the base plate 39 at a recess 51. The dimensions of the recess are provided to allow movement of the stud 50 with the movement of the drawer 38.

The pad 50 is provided to cooperate with a link 51 which descends from the head 11 of tie rod 12.

On the side of the wing where you want to increase the retaining force of the wing with the support of the skier, the wing 6 in the case of the figures, an intermediate piece 53 is interposed between the wing return 6a and the head 11 of the tie rod. Intermediate piece 53 is housed in a lateral recess of the head 11. The part 53 and the recess have a generally rectangular parallelepiped shape. The intermediate piece is movable relative to the head 11 backwards. It is guided laterally against the lateral face of the recess of the head 11. Towards the front, the part 53 rests against a stop 54 of the head. Upwards, the intermediate piece can rise on a limited amplitude.

It is connected by a articulation around a horizontal and transverse axis to the head 11 on the one hand, to the intermediate piece 53 on the other hand, and extends downwards, where its foot 55 is placed in front of the stud 50. The link 51 and the intermediate piece 53 form the connection between the transmission link and the chain of connecting elements between wing 6 and the spring. In this case, the transmission link is not connected than to the link chain of wing 6, and has no action on the link chain of wing 7.

Ceci est représenté en figure 7.At rest, i.e. in the absence of forward movement of the plate transmission 36, the pad 50 is set back forward with respect to the foot 55 of the link from a distance at least equal to the maximum stroke of displacement of the tie rod when the wing 6 is opened. This is shown in the figure. 7.

Ceci est illustré en figure 8.On the other hand, in the event of intense support on the support plate 23, the travel of forward movement of the transmission plate 36 is sufficient for the pad 50 comes into contact with foot 55 and is liable to hinder its movement forward. Preferably, a stop formed for example by the bottom 58 of the housing of the drawer element 38 limits the stroke of this element in a position where its stud 50 just comes into contact with the foot 55 of the link, while the wing 6 is in closed rest position. This is illustrated in Figure 8.

In the case of wing 6 being opened, for example under the effect of a stress lateral in torsion of the shoe, the wing return 6a causes the rearward intermediate piece and the head of the tie rod. The link 51 also moves towards the rear.

In the absence of intense support on the support plate 23, that is to say in the retracted position of the transmission plate 36, the intermediate piece is in stop against stop 54 of the head of the tie rod. It trains the head of the tie rod directly in its movement, forming with it only a block.

In the event of intense stress on the support plate 23, combined with a opening of the wing 6, the foot of the link is blocked by the stud 50. The link acts as an amplifier lever between the intermediate piece 53 and the head 11 of the tie rod. This is illustrated in Figure 9. Thus, to reach the opening angle of the wing which lets out the shoe, it is necessary to move the tie rod 12 on a more large stroke only in the absence of intense stress on the support plate 23.

Figure 10 shows the connection between wing 7 and the tie rod. On this side, the return wing 7a of wing 7 is in direct engagement with the head 11 of the tie rod 12. Whatever the position of the pad 50, the return force of the wing 7 is not modified.

It goes without saying that the other retaining element of a pair of front elements has a reverse arrangement, that is to say in particular an intermediate part and a link located on the other side of the tie rod, so that these are the two wings internal elements which have a variable force of resistance to the opening. Any suitable means of locating retaining elements or skis or any coding means is suitable for the shoes to be associated with good restraints.

In summary, in normal operation, that is to say in the absence of support intense from the back of the shoe on the plate 23, the two retaining wings require the same effort to open, and, if necessary, release the shoe.

In case of intense support of one or the other of the shoes, and in particular in exit from a bend, during the driving phase, when the skier puts his weight on the rear, the retaining wing located on the inside of the ski, where this intense support product, has an opening resistance force which is increased by compared to the other wing, due to the depression of the plate 23 and the advancement transmission plate 36 and drawer 38. This is advantageous because the skier can use their skis more, while driving, by reducing the risk of untimely triggering of the ski which it requests the inner wing.

According to another approach, the skier lowers the hardness of the elements of restraint, i.e. decreases the stress threshold beyond which the restraint releases the shoe, knowing that in the driving phases, by its rear support, it temporarily increases the hardness of the inner wings of its retainers.

An alternative embodiment of the invention is illustrated in FIGS. 11 and 12. According to this variant, the head 59 of the tie rod 60 is equipped on both sides with a rod 61, 62 of the same kind as the preceding rod 51, and of one piece intermediate 63, 64 similar to intermediate piece 53. It should be noted that the rods 61 and 62 and the intermediate parts 63, 64 are respectively independent of each other. In this case, the transmission link is connected to the two chains connecting the wings to the spring, but the elements of connection, i.e. the rods and / or the intermediate parts are different so that the transmission link activates one of the links more than the other.

As in the previous case, pressing the shoe on the back causes the advancement of a stud which is likely here to impede the movement of the foot of the two links. However, the rods amplify differently the movement of the tie rod.

There is shown in Figures 11 and 12 the tie 61 seen from both sides. It is visible in these figures that the two axes 65, 67 of articulation of the rod 61 to the head 59 of the tie rod and the intermediate piece 63 are more distant from each other than the axes 66 and 68 of articulation of the link 62. Under these conditions, the link 62 will have a weaker amplifying role than the link 61. The link 62 will disposed on the side of the outer wing, and the rod 61 on the side of the inner wing of the retainer.

The same effect can be obtained by other means, by playing on the arms of levers of each of the links, for example by using different length.

Thus, if the boot is pressed on the movable support plate, the threshold of triggering of the two wings varies, that of the inner wing varying however more than that of the outer wing.

According to this variant, the effect of the drawer element on the link (s) is neutralized in the case where the front of the shoe tends to urge the jaw upwards. This configuration corresponds for example to a fall towards the rear of the skier.

The figure shows a drawer element in two parts 70 and 71 joined between them by a toggle device 72. The toggle joint device 72 includes two small levers joined together by a central articulation.

The front support plate 73 on which the front of the shoe rests is vertically movable. For example, its rear part is connected to the base of the retaining element by a kind of hinge. Preferably, a means of relatively flexible elastic return, for example a spring 74 recalls the plate to the top.

The front part of the plate rests on the knee joint.

As long as the support of the shoe on the plate is greater than a value determined, the knee pad 72 is flattened. The pad 77 is in the advanced position and the drawer element then has the same operation with respect to the link, or the case appropriate to the rods, as the previous drawer element.

In the event of a rear fall, the load of the shoe on the plate support 73 decreases, allowing the toggle to break. The plot 77 occupies then a more remote position, and has no action on the link (s). The wings trigger point can no longer vary, or returns to its value nominal if it had increased due to a forward shift of the transmission plate. As soon as the load on the shoe increases, pad 77 returns to its nominal operating position. So the variation effect of the resistance to wing opening is neutralized in the event of a rear fall.

Figures 14 and 15 relate to another mode of construction of the front retainer. They illustrate a retaining element 81 of the type to rotating body and jaw forming a one-piece assembly with the body. So, element 81 comprises a jaw 82 comprising two retaining wings lateral and forming with the body 83 a one-piece body. The body is pivotally mounted around a vertical cylindrical pivot 84 carried by a base 85 which is provided to be secured to the ski by any suitable means, for example screws. The pivot 84 carries on the front a flat 86 oriented transversely to the longitudinal direction defined by the retainer. A piston 87, guided in the body, is pushed back by a spring 88 against the flat 86. During pivoting, the body drives with it the piston 87 which, in contact with one or the other of the edges side of the flat, is forced to advance by compressing the spring 88. Such a construction is known. It is not limiting for the invention, and may have variants, in particular at the pivot and the pivot connection between the pivot and body. Thus, in this case, the chains of connecting elements between each of the wings and the spring includes the jaw, the body, the pivot, and the flat situated in front of the pivot, with each of its lateral edges, against which the piston rests in the direction of pivoting of the body. Each wing of the jaw is actually associated with an edge of the flat which is situated on the opposite side, that is to say on the side of the other wing with respect to a vertical and longitudinal median plane.

As can be seen in the figures, the pivot has a recess on each of the lateral edges of the flat, that is to say that the flat has a width less than the diameter of the pivot. One of these recesses is limited to the rear by a rod 90 which extends along the pivot. Baguette 90 is mobile, it is carried by a drawer element 91 guided in longitudinal sliding relative to the base. This element is the same type as the drawer element 38 previous, and, like the previous element, it is intended to be pushed back to the front in case of variation in the support of the skier's shoe on a feeler. In being pushed forward, the drawer element 91 moves the rod 90, and places its front face substantially in the extension of the bearing face of the flat 86. This amounts to saying that in the event of the drawer element 91 moving forwards, the flat is momentarily extended laterally and on one side only. If the piston describes this side of the flat during this time, it will shift to a larger amplitude, causing greater compression of the spring, i.e. the spring will resist pivoting of the body which will be greater than that which it opposes for a body pivot in the other direction.

As in the previous case, the other element of a pair of elements of retained would have a reverse arrangement of the rod, that is to say that the rod 90 would be located on the other side of the longitudinal and vertical median plane of the element of restraint. The pair retainers would in this case have all suitable mechanical or visual or other means to ensure that the element right retainer is associated with the skier's right shoe and the left element is associated with the left shoe.

On the same principle as what has been described in relation to FIGS. 11 and 12, FIG. 16 shows a variant of a retaining element 92 with a pivot 93 having a lateral recess on each of the lateral edges of the flat 96. These recesses are limited by two movable rods, 94 and 95, one on each side flat 96, carried integrally by a drawer element. One of the chopsticks, in the occurrence, the rod 94 in FIG. 16, has a more lateral edge blunt than the other so that, in the case of the advanced position of the drawer and both rods, the increase in the force that the spring opposes to the pivoting of the body is momentarily more important on one side than on the other. In Figure 15, the drawer element and the two rods are shown in the advanced position.

Naturally, the invention is not limited to the embodiments described. It could apply to construction variants of the embodiment described. It could also apply to other constructions of elements of retainer, for example elements of the fixed-body and one-piece jaw type comprising two wings connected to each other. Other constructions are also possible. For a retaining element of different construction, the chain of connecting elements between a wing and the spring is formed by all of the elements which connect the wing to the spring, and which are activated in movement by the displacement of the wing in question.

The movable support plate, the connection with the drawer element could also be replaced by an electronic device. For example, a strain gauge would assess the support of the shoe on the ski. In case a determined threshold is exceeded, a processing circuit would activate an electromagnet or other device likely to modify the triggering threshold of the retaining element at the way of what has been described.

In addition, according to what has been described, it is the rear support plate which controls the operation of the device. This is not limiting, and we could also pilot the device in the same way depending on the support variations of the front support plate.

Finally, the transmission link between the movable support plate and the wing could be expected to have an opposite effect, which would decrease the restoring force applied by the spring to the wing, instead of increasing it.

All these variants can also be combined with one another.
