Definitions

  • the invention relates to a luminaire for line illumination, comprising:
  • Such a luminaire is known from DE-U-93 20 823.
  • a large number of luminaires may be used in a row in one longitudinal direction in the case of line illumination.
  • the reflector of the known luminaire has transverse walls at its ends, perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the reflector, which make that the reflector forms a trough-shaped body.
  • the reflector in itself is comparatively voluminous already. Owing to its shape, it cannot be nested together with other reflectors, so that the luminaires for line illumination together occupy a very large volume in shipment. This is a disadvantage. This disadvantage could be eliminated by means of reflectors which only comprise a top wall and side walls. Given such reflectors in line illumination device, however, the device would also radiate light sideways because this light would pass the boundaries between the ends of each pair of adjoining reflectors. This is undesirable.
  • this object is achieved in that a coupling member is present at the first end of the reflector only, is fastened to said end, overlaps at least the side surfaces, and extends along the extended direction of the reflector so as to overlap the second end of an adjoining reflector.
  • the coupling member is able to overlap the adjoining reflector at the outside thereof, inter alia for hiding the second end of this adjoining reflector from view.
  • the luminaire not only has the advantages that the reflectors can be nested together for shipment and storage, so that a comparatively large number together occupy a comparatively small volume, that it is optically coupled when placed in line with other reflectors, i.e. that the line illumination between the ends of the reflectors is at least substantially optically closed when viewed sideways, and that it keeps the reflectors mutually aligned longitudinally, but also that a reflector of a luminaire can be removed from a central position in a line of luminaires while adjoining luminaires remain intact.
  • a light carrier may be removed from a line of luminaires, for example for purposes of repair, for example for replacing a ballast of a tubular fluorescent lamp.
  • the reflector can be removed in that the reflector is detached and taken from the line with its second end first, if this second end is overlapped at its outside by the coupling member of the adjoining reflector.
  • the coupling member may have a connecting portion which extends, for example, alongside the recess for the means for accommodating a lamp in the reflector and interconnects portions of the coupling member which each cooperate with a respective side surface of the reflector.
  • the coupling member prefferably has separate portions which each cooperate with a respective side surface of the reflector. These portions are then one another's mirrored images.
  • the coupling member has a transverse wall which closes off the reflector at its first end.
  • the coupling member has a groove into which the first end of the reflector extends.
  • the first end is then overlapped by the coupling member at the outside, as is the second end of an adjoining reflector, so that both are hidden from view.
  • the luminaire may be designed for one or several, for example parallel, tubular fluorescent lamps, or for, for example, one or several fluorescent lamps having parallel lamp portions such as single-ended capped compact lamps.
  • the luminaire may thus provide a line or strip illumination.
  • the trunk may have a length such that it can accommodate several light carriers.
  • the luminaire for line illumination comprises a light carrier 1 with a longitudinal direction and with an outer surface 10 which is provided with means 11 for accommodating an electric lamp, a tubular fluorescent lamp in the Figure.
  • the light carrier has means 12 for fastering it detachably to a carrier or trunk 2.
  • the luminaire in addition has such a trunk 2 to which the light carrier 1 can be detachably fastened.
  • a reflector 3 with an inner side 30 for concentrating light generated by an accommodated lamp into a beam and with an outer side 31 forms part of the luminaire.
  • the reflector 3 has a top surface 32 and side surfaces 33 integral therewith, extending in the longitudinal direction of the light carrier 1, and each having a U-shaped flanged longitudinal rim 34.
  • the side surfaces 33 come closer together as they approach the top surface 32.
  • the reflector 3 has a first 35 and a second end 36 and can be fastened with the outer side 31 of its top surface 32 against the outer surface 10 of the light carrier 1.
  • the reflector is provided with a recess 37 in each end 35, 36 of its top surface 32 for the means 11 for accommodating an electric lamp.
  • the reflector 3 has slotted openings 29 in the top surface 32 through which tongues can grip, which tongues in the luminaire shown are present at the outer surface 10 of the light carrier 1, forming part of the means 12 thereof for detachable fastening to the trunk 2.
  • the reflector 3 is detached from the light carrier 1 in that said tongues are pressed towards one another, so that they can pass through the relevant opening 29.
  • the luminaire has a coupling member 4 at the first end 35 of the reflector 3 only, which coupling member 4 is fastened to the first end 35 and overlaps at least the side surfaces 33.
  • the coupling member extends along the extended direction of the reflector 3 so as to be able to overlap the second end 36 of an adjoining reflector 3, at the outside 31 thereof in the embodiment shown.
  • the coupling member 4 bounds a transverse wall 40 which closes off the reflector 3 at its first end 35.
  • the coupling member 4 projects with a first portion 41 thereof into the reflector 3 at the first end 35 and grips with barbed hooks 42 into windows 38 thereof, see Fig. 1, and with barbed hooks 42' into windows 38'.
  • the coupling member 4 has a groove 43, see also Fig. 3, into which the first end 35 projects.
  • the coupling member 4 overlaps the reflector 3 also over a portion of the top surface 32 of the latter.
  • the coupling member 4 may overlap with a second portion 44, which is wider than the first portion 41, the second end 36 of the adjoining reflector at the outer side thereof.
  • the coupling member 4 has separate portions 4', 4'' which are capable of cooperating each with a respective side surface 33 of the reflector 3.
  • the portions 4', 4'' are one another's mirrored images.
  • a modified version in which these portions are coupled by means of a connecting portion 39 is shown in broken lines.
  • Fig. 5 reflectors 3, 3' have been nested together in a stack with interposed buffers 5 for storage and transport, so that they occupy a comparatively small volume and are nevertheless protected from damage.
  • the buffers 5 may be made, for example, from polystyrene.
