    Claims (15)

    1. Device for transporting a load on rails of the type comprising an electric driving mechanism driving at least one toothed wheel which gears on a rack integral with the rails, characterised in that the driving mechanism comprises a central portion (1) fitted with rolling means (7, 8) on the rails (40) and movable means for supporting (4) and fixing (33) the load; and two extremity portions (10) relatively axially opposite the central portion (1), each of these two portions (10) comprising a back-geared motor (11, 12) coupled to a toothed drive wheel on the rack (47) ; each unit (11, 12) being connected to the central portion (1) by a double articulation system (18, 19) comprising a central pin (21) perpendicular to the plane of the rails (40) and a continuous shaft (20) parallel to said plane and comprising two coaxial wheels (16, 16') engaged on the rails (40) at two locations axially offset with respect to the toothed drive wheel.
    2. Device according to claim 1,
      characterised in that the central portion (1) comprises a rigid structure (2, 2', 3, 3', 4) borne on the rails (40) by a train of at least four independent trucks, each truck comprising an orientable arm (5, 5') carrying at least two wheels (7, 8) engaged on a rail (40) and placed a same plane, said arm (5, 5') being articulated both along an axis (32) perpendicular to the plane of the rails (40) and along a transverse axis (31) parallel to said plane so as to be able to be orientated tangentially to the rails (40).
    3. Device according to claim 1 or,
      characterised in that the central portion (1) comprises an electronic module (26) for ensuring regulation and synchronisation of the speed of the drive means.
    4. Device according to one of the preceding claims, characterised in that each of the drive means comprise a pinion (17) integral with an outlet shaft (13) of the back-geared motor unit (11, 12) which is geared on the rack (47) integral with the rails (40), the pinion (17) being mounted mobile in translation with return by a spring (22) along said central axis (21) by means of the double articulation system.
    5. Device according to claim 4,
      characterised in that it comprises means to generate a signal for determining the rotation speed of the pinions (17) and for transmitting this signal to the electronic module (26).
    6. Device according to claim 5,
      characterised in that the means to generate a signal for determining the rotation speed of the pinions (17) comprise ferromagnetic inserts (28) distributed over the circumference of the pinions (17) and two sensors (27) placed respectively opposite the pinions (17) so as to detect the passage of the inserts (28) when the pinions (17) are driven in rotation.
    7. Device according to one of the preceding claims, characterised in that the double articulation system comprises a universal joint (19) mounted pivoting around the axis (21) connected to the central portion (1) and around the axis (20) connected to the back-geared motor unit (11, 12) by means of a yoke (18).
    8. Device according to one of claims 2 to 7, characterised in that the central portion (1) comprises four legs (3, 3') connected at one extremity to the four trucks and at the other extremity to a plate (4), the legs being further connected two by two respectively by two crossmembers (2, 2').
    9. Device according to one of the preceding claims, characterised in that the central portion (1) is made of tubular profiles made of a light alloy.
    10. Device according to one of claims 4 to 9, characterised in that the two pinions (17) respectively coupled to the back-geared motor units (11, 12) of the two extremity portions (10) are situated inside the same plane and gear on the same rack (47).
    11. Device according to one of claims 4 to 10, characterised in that the rack (47) is situated at a certain distance from the axis of the rails (40).
    12. Device according to one of claims 4 to 11, characterised in that the outlet shaft of the back-geared motor (11, 12) extends on both sides of the latter so as to allow for coupling of the pinion, (17) to the shaft (13) from either side of the back-geared motor (11, 12).
    13. Device according to one of claims 4 to 10, characterised in that the rack (47) is situated on the axis of the rails (40).
    14. Device according to one of claims 4 to 9, characterised in that the two pinions (17) respectively coupled to the back-geared units (11, 12) of the two extremity portions (10) gear on two racks placed on both sides of the axis of the rails (40).
    15. Device according to one of the preceding claims, characterised in that the rails (40) comprise two grooves (43) in which the wheels (7, 8, 16, 16') of the driving mechanism circulate so as to keep the device on the rails (40) regardless of the orientation of the latter.
