Abstract

The indicator light comprises a light source such as a filament lamp with a flux recovery element and a cover plate (40). Beneath the lamp and the cover plate there is an intermediate screen (30). The intermediate screen has on its external face a set of opaque and semi-opaque bands (31) of regular step size. The cover plate includes a set of parallel rows of optical lens elements (41), extending parallel to the opaque and semi-opaque bands on the intermediate plate. These lens elements may be convex, with cylindrical or spherical sections. The ratio of the step size of the opaque bands (P1) and that of the lens elements (P3) is not an integer number, but is preferably in the range 1.02 - 1.15.

Description

The present invention relates generally to signaling lights for motor vehicles.

It relates more particularly to a signaling light comprising a light source such as a filament lamp, a flow recuperator, a closing indicator as well as an intermediate screen placed between the flow recuperator and the indicator.

When it is desired to give such a signal light extinguished a red tint, while the signaling function must be of another color (for example amber for a direction indicator flashing light, or white for a reversing light or a front position light), it is conventional to tint the indicator in pink and to provide on the external face of the intermediate screen a set of opaque or semi-opaque red regions, for example in the form of parallel preferably horizontal bands.

This known light also comprises on the internal face of the sight glass optical arrangements for scattering light, such as spherical balls or preferably convex toric surfaces.

In particular in order to give the fire when it is extinguished an aspect as homogeneous as possible, it is conventional, as shown in Figures 1 and 2 of the accompanying drawings which illustrate a known intermediate screen E and the associated external indicator V, to position the opaque bands B so that they have the same pitch as the rows of toroids of the sight glass, preferably by symmetrically overlapping the horizontal planes PT which extend to the transitions between two adjacent rows of tori Ti and Ti + 1.

This solution is however disadvantageous in that it causes completely undesirable dark areas in the photometric reading of the fire because they prevent the fire from complying with the regulations at certain measurement points of the photometric grid.

More specifically, if we refer to Figure 3 of the drawings, we see that there are in the shape of the beam obtained, defined by a set of isocandela curves, two horizontal bands B1 and B2 in which light is absent , or at least largely insufficient.

These black bands are in fact the images, formed by the toroids, of the opaque bands B present on the intermediate screen.

Such a phenomenon would also be encountered if the sight glass balls or toroids were replaced by horizontal cylindrical streaks.

This problem can also be encountered when opaque strips overlap horizontal transition planes between optical arrangements provided not on the internal face of the indicator, but elsewhere and in particular on the internal face of the intermediate screen.

The present invention aims to overcome this drawback of the state of the art, and to propose a signaling light of the aforementioned type which, while retaining a similar appearance, remaining homogeneous, when it is off, generates a signaling beam n 'having more the aforementioned defect, and be of very good homogeneity.

Thus, the present invention provides a signaling light for a motor vehicle, comprising a light source such as a filament lamp, a flux recuperator, a closing indicator as well as an intermediate screen placed between the flux recuperator and the indicator, the intermediate screen having on its outer face a set of opaque or semi-opaque bands of a regular pitch, and the light comprising a set of optical elements arranged in parallel rows of a regular pitch, the bands being parallel to said rows of optical elements, characterized in that the ratio of the pitch of the strips to the pitch of the rows of optical elements is different from an integer.

  • Figure 6 is a vertical sectional view of a signaling light incorporating an indicator and an intermediate screen according to the invention.

Referring firstly to FIG. 4, a light 40 for closing a light according to the invention comprises on its inner face a network of optical elements, in this case convex toroids 41, arranged in a plurality of adjacent horizontal rows R1, ..., Rn, in a manner known per se.

It will be recalled here that tori are surfaces which have, respectively in horizontal section and in vertical section, circular profiles of different radii, this in order to ensure a spreading of the different light in horizontal direction and in vertical direction.

All the rows of toroids have the same height, with a vertical pitch P3 in this case chosen equal to 3 mm.

The intermediate screen 30 has on its external face a plurality of horizontal and parallel opaque or semi-opaque strips 31, produced for example by screen printing.

These bands 31 delimit two by two of the transparent bands 32 for the passage of the light emitted from inside the light.

These bands have a regular pitch and preferably a constant width.

In the present example, the opaque bands 31 are positioned so that a first band 31c situated at an intermediate height on the sight glass symmetrically overlaps an intermediate transition plane PTc between two rows of adjacent toroids Ri, Ri + 1, and of such that two opaque bands 31h and 31b situated respectively along the upper edge and the lower edge of the screen 30 or of a determined area of it are not located astride two rows of tori as for the band 31c, but are located, in the vertical direction substantially at the center of a corresponding row of toroids, respectively R1 and Rn.

The strips 31 are distributed with a regular pitch, on the one hand between the intermediate strip 31c and the upper strip 31h, and on the other hand between the intermediate strip 31c and the lower strip 31b.

Because the two end bands each occupy different relative positions with respect to the adjacent rows of toroids, this results in a progressive shift of the bands with respect to the rows of toroids, from the overlapping position of the band 31c up to at the positions of the end bands 31h, 31b.

Because of this progressive shift, each row of toroid / strip couple behaves optically in a different way and the result, as shown in FIG. 5, is a photometric reading which is completely homogeneous, and in particular devoid of any dark area or less light likely to make the beam non-compliant with regulations. At the same time, the effect rendered by the bands when the fire is out is substantially identical to that obtained in the case of FIG. 1, and in particular a good homogeneity of its appearance is preserved.

In this case, the intermediate screen and the indicator are common to two different light functions, the aforementioned PTc transition plane separating the two illuminating surfaces.

Because the number of rows of toroids in the two lighting areas is different, it follows that the pitch between the strips is also different from one area to another.

With the concrete example as illustrated in FIG. 4, one arrives for the bands situated above the intermediate band 31c, at a pitch P1 of 3.18 mm and, for the bands situated below the band intermediate 31c, at a pitch P2 of 3.23 mm.

Thus the ratio between the pitch P3 of the rows of toroids and the pitch P1 or P2 of the bands is in one case 1.06, and in the other of 1.076.

Dans chaque cavité pénètre à partir du fond une lampe, respectivement 20a, 20b.It comprises a base 10 defining two cavities 11a, 11b, the bottoms of which constitute flux recovery mirrors 12a, 12b, for example of the parabolic type. In each cavity penetrates from the bottom a lamp, respectively 20a, 20b.

The intermediate screen 30 covers the two cavities, the transition plane PTc symmetrically overlapped by the opaque strip 31c constituting the border between the illuminating surfaces of the two lights. An indicator 40 comprising the optical elements 41 extends along and outside the screen 30. This indicator is tinted pink over its entire extent.

The upper light is a direction indicator flashing light and, to emit the required amber color, the part of the screen 30 situated above the transition plane PTc is tinted green.

The lower light is a reversing light and, to emit the required white color, the part of the screen 30 situated below the transition plane PTc is tinted blue. To this end, the screen 30 is preferably produced by molding in two stages.

When this set of two lights is off, the combination of the pink shade of the indicator light 40 and the red color of the opaque bands 31 gives it a homogeneous red appearance, which goes well with other adjacent lights of red shade ( position, brake light, rear fog light, ...).

Of course, the present invention is in no way limited to the embodiment described and shown, but a person skilled in the art will know how to make any variant or modification in accordance with his spirit.
