Abstract
The invention relates to an assembly comprising a chair (1) and a shampoo basin (2) for washing hair, the shampoo basin (2) having a neck recess (3) and being adjustably mounted on a pillar (5), wherein the shampoo basin (2) is mounted on the pillar (5) in a substantially stationary position and the pillar (5) consists of at least two parts (6,7) which are movable relative to each other, the arrangement being such that the shampoo basin (2) is adjustable in height relative to the chair (1).
Description
- The invention relates to an assembly comprising a chair and a shampoo basin for washing hair, the shampoo basin having a neck recess and being adjustably mounted on a pillar.
- Such an assemly, known from practice, is used for washing hair, for instance in a hairdressing salon. In the known assembly, the front side of the shampoo basin facing the customer is provided with a neck recess for connecting to and around the customer's head in an optimum manner. During the washing of the hair, the hairdresser stands at the back of the shampoo basin. To enable the shampoo basin and, accordingly, the neck recess to be adjusted in height, depending on the length and sitting position of the customer in question, the shampoo basin is connected to the pillar so as to be pivotable or tiltable forwards and backwards about a horizontal axis.
- However, this construction has the drawback that it is laborious to adjust the shampoo basin to the height position of the head of a customer. Also, owing to the shampoo basin being pivoted to the front or rear side, the lowest point of the shampoo basin, where the water discharge is normally located, is displaced, as a consequence of which the emptying of the shampoo basin is no longer guaranteed. When the shampoo basin is pivoted forwards to an extreme extent, for instance in the case of an extremely small customer, there is even a chance that the water contained in the shampoo basin overflows via the edge at the side of the neck recess.
- The object of the invention is to provide an assembly of a chair and a shampoo basin of the type referred to in the opening paragraph, wherein the drawbacks mentioned are avoided.
- In accordance with the invention, this is realized in that the shampoo basin is mounted on the pillar in a substantially stationary position and the pillar consists of at least two parts, movable relative to each other, the arrangement being such that the shampoo basin is adjustable in height relative to the chair. Preferably, the shampoo basin is arranged in a horizontal position.
- By the features according to the invention, an assembly is provided wherein the shampoo basin can be brought into a proper height position for the customer in a quick and easy manner, while it remains substantially in an aligned position, more in particular in a horizontal position, independently of the body length and position of the customer. Also, an optimum water discharge is realized in all height positions of the shampoo basin, with the chance of the shampoo basin running over being prevented and a hygienic use of the assembly of chair and shampoo basin being guaranteed.
- In order to provide a hygienic assembly which is easy to operate, the at least two pillar parts are arranged for telescopic inward and outward relative movement.
- A particularly easy sitting position for the customer is realized when the shampoo basin is adjustable in a pillar direction at an angle of inclination of, for instance, between 45° and 65°, preferably 57°.
- To prevent a displacement of the chair relative to the shampoo basin, it is preferred that the pillar is connected to the chair, with the back support, in a particularly simple embodiment, having the same angle of inclination as the direction along which the shampoo basin is adjustable. For carrying out operations other than washing hair, such as for instance blow-drying or cutting hair, it may be advantageous if the angle of inclination of a back support of the chair is settable relative to that of the pillar.
- There are various possibilities for enabling height adjustment of the shampoo basin, for instance by a displacement in steps or a continuous movement by means of a screw spindle. For a particularly easy and accurate height adjustment, the assembly comprises a gas spring for moving the two pillar parts along each other.
- Hereinafter, the invention will be specified on the basis of an exemplary embodiment of an assembly of a chair and a shampoo basin, with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein:
- Fig. 1 is a side elevation of an assembly according to the invention; and
- Fig. 2 is a side elevation of an assembly according to the invention wherein the shampoo basin is shown in an elevated position.
- In the Figures, corresponding parts are designated by identical reference numerals. Fig. 1 is a side elevation of an assembly comprising a
chair 1 and ashampoo basin 2. Theshampoo basin 2 has arecess 3 for the neck portion of a customer 4 with the hair to be washed. Theshampoo basin 2 is mounted horizontally on apillar 5. Thepillar 5 consists of two parts, abase portion 6 and a slidingportion 7, telescopically movable relative to each other. The bottom side of theshampoo basin 2, mounted on the slidingportion 7, comprises afastening means 11. Arranged in the inner space of thebase portion 6 is agas spring 8, which can be operated by a hairdresser in a known manner, not further shown. Apiston rod 10 movable in acylinder 9 is coupled to the fastening means 11. Thechair 1 is mounted on anextension 12 fixedly connected to thepillar 5. Theback support 13 is positioned at the same angle of inclination α, preferably 57°, as thepillar 5. In a manner not further shown, theback support 13 is adjustable about a horizontal axis. Also disposed on theshampoo basin 2 is anextendible water tap 14, known per se. The operation of this assembly of chair and shampoo basin, shown in Fig. 1 in the lowest position of theshampoo basin 2, is further explained with reference to Fig. 2. - Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the assembly according to the invention, with the
pillar 5 shown in a telescoped-out position for a relatively long customer. For this purpose, thegas spring 8 is put into action, and thepiston rod 10 is displaced relative to thecylinder 9 so that theshampoo basin 2 is brought into a higher position, with the shampoo basin retaining its substantially horizontal position. As appears from Fig. 2 in comparison with Fig. 1, a large customer takes up the same sitting position as a small customer. A further advantage is that the hair to be washed of a customer is always in the same horizontal working plane as the accessories to be used by a hairdresser, such as for instance thewater tap 14 placed on theshampoo basin 2. However, the lowest point of theshampoo basin 2 always remains the lowest point, regardless of a particular height position, which guarantees that during an adjustment of the height position, the discharge of the water from the shampoo basin does not cause any problems. - It is readily understood that still many modifications and variants are possible within the framework of the invention as laid down in the appended claims. For instance, the single gas spring may be replaced by two juxtaposed gas springs, which virtually eliminates the tilting danger during height adjustment of the shampoo basin. Further, instead of pillar parts that can be telescopically slid into and out of each other, it is possible to use two spaced-apart pillar parts which are interconnected by an elastic, optionally concertina-shaped part, and which can be moved relative to each other for instance by means of a screw spindle. By designing the seat and the back support of the chair so as to be adjustably pivotable relative to each other or to be jointly adjustably pivotable relative to the
extension 12 about a horizontal axis, the customer, after the completion of the washing treatment, can be brought into a more vertical position for carrying out further treatments. For this purpose, it may also be advantageous to dispose the seat with support so as to be pivotable about a vertical axis, so that, after the washing treatment, the chair with the customer can be turned through for instance 90° to a position outside the range of the shampoo basin.
