Abstract

An apparatus for forming green bricks from clay for the brick industry comprises means for covering the green bricks with sand. These means are formed by a succession of conveyor belts placed in stepwise manner. When the green brick is transferred from one to the following conveyor belt the flat surfaces are covered with sand. According to the invention an air flow is generated at the transition from one to a following conveyor belt in order to cover the head ends with sand.

Description

  • The invention relates to an apparatus for manufacturing bricks, with means for forming green bricks from clay and means for covering the green bricks with sand, consisting of a succession of conveyor belts which are placed in each case at a lower height and wherein the delivery point of each conveyor belt connects onto a pick-up point of a following conveyor belt located at a lower level, means for arranging sand on the conveyor belts and means for carrying away the sand-covered green bricks.
  • Such an apparatus is known from "Handbuch für die Ziegelindustrie", Willi Bender et al., 1982, Bauverlag GmbH, Wiesbaden and Berlin, ISBN 3-7625-1485-2, p. 209-215 and fig. 7 on p. 214.
  • With such a method of covering with sand it is predominantly the main surfaces of the parallelepipedal green brick which are covered with sand.
  • It is the object of the invention to provide an operationally reliable covering with sand of the end surfaces of the green brick.
  • This is achieved according to the invention by a member placed close to at least one delivery point and generating an air flow directed towards the head ends of the green bricks located on a following conveyor belt.
  • With this step the sand falling as a curtain from the conveyor belts is blown toward the end surfaces of the green bricks. An operationally reliable "all-round" covering with sand is obtained with comparatively simple means without interference in the sand-covering process.
  • The invention is further elucidated with reference to the drawing.
  • In the drawing:

  • The sand-covering means of the known apparatus are shown in the drawing in perspective view.
  • A green brick is carried out of a supply hopper 1 onto the main conveyor 2. The green bricks are then transported further by auxiliary conveyor belts 3, 4, 5 and 6 placed in cascade until, covered in sand, they finally come to rest on the discharge conveyor 7. Sand is placed on the main conveyor 2 from a supply hopper 8. At the delivery end of each conveyor the layer of sand is transferred to the connecting conveyor located thereunder. During the transfer a "curtain" of falling sand is created. The residue of sand is carried by discharge conveyor 9 back to the reservoir 8. The green bricks covered in sand are pressed by the pressing roller 10 and ultimately discharged via the known discharging device 11 into the moulds 12, which moulds are placed on a circulating conveyor 13.
  • According to the invention (fig. 2), close to the main conveyor 2, and in particular at the discharge point 14 thereof, are placed means 15, 16, 17 for generating an air flow. These means 15, 16, 17 are connected to a supply pipe 20 for compressed air and carry on their ends nozzles, for instance 18, 19. Using the air flowing out of nozzles 18, 19 the "sand curtain" is directed to the head ends of the green bricks. An operationally reliable sand covering is hereby ensured.

Claims (1)

  1. Apparatus for manufacturing bricks, with means for forming green bricks from clay and means for covering the green bricks with sand, consisting of a succession of conveyor belts which are placed in each case at a lower height and wherein the delivery point of each conveyor belt connects onto a pick-up point of a following conveyor belt located at a lower level, means for arranging sand on the conveyor belts and means for carrying away the sand-covered green bricks, characterized by a member placed close to at least one delivery point and generating an air flow directed toward the head ends of the green bricks located on a following conveyor belt.
