Description

The present invention relates to cables with several pairs of individually insulated electrical conductors high frequency and low signal transmission crosstalk between pairs, such as cables IT. It relates more particularly to such multi-pair cable, shielded in pairs and easy to connect.

In this type of cable, crosstalk is a fundamental parameter, which is known to improve considerably by individually shielding the pairs of the cable.

The most classically adopted solution for shielding each pair is to ribbon helically a metallic ribbon or metallic around each pair, before assembling the individually shielded pairs under the same sheath protection. The taping operation of each pair is a slow operation, which is necessarily carried out in recovery on each pair already made up to obtain high frequency transmission characteristics satisfactory. A taping operation done during the realization of the pairs is not suitable, because the step of taping is that of the conductors of each pair concerned and therefore does not guarantee regularity impedance compatible with high speed transmission.

For the cable connection, the shields individual pairs must be removed for access to conductors, which makes the operation of connection made on site.

This cable is a flat cable, the pairs of which are side by side. The shielding pairs is achieved by two ribbons, which cover the set of pairs extending between them and are linked one to the other on either side of each of the pairs. Each armor tape has a metal strip, for example aluminum, coated on at least one of its faces with thermoplastic material and preferably on the other side synthetic polyester resin. The sides coated with thermoplastic material are placed opposite, for their hot bonding and the resulting bonding of the two tapes shielding.

On this cable or more precisely on both or preferably only one of the two ribbons, it is also provided a tear line along each bonding area of the two ribbons between the pairs. Such tear lines facilitate access to the pairs' conductors for cable connection.

A drawback of this cable comes from its structure flat, which makes the cable relatively wide and flexible in one direction only tends to twist when pose. This is particularly the case when this flat cable has four pairs, like the most used cables in computer networks, and is then very wide. he will be messy during installation and it will become very vulnerable to traction.

Document US-A-3819 443 discloses an element of shielding formed by laminated metal strips and plastic, which are cut, folded and joined together to others and thus define radial branches on said element. It also discloses a cable comprising a set of conductors arranged in pairs, said element of shielding and an outer insulating sheath around all drivers. In this cable, the element of shielding with radial branches internally compartments the cable. The different pairs of this cable are thus separate from each other but each of them is only partially shielded, which is not as effective only a shield provided around each pair and is not always satisfactory.

The object of the present invention is to produce a cable multipair shielded in pairs and easy to connect, having a circular section and not having the disadvantages of aforementioned flat cable with individually shielded pairs.

It relates to a multi-pair cable shielded by pair and easy to connect, having a circular section and comprising several pairs of insulated conductors individually and electrical shielding around each pair, characterized in that the electrical shields of the different pairs are formed by a central rod radial fins, separating the pairs from each other and ensuring a partial shielding of each of them, and by a peripheral screen surrounding said rod and all of the pairs between said fins and completing the shielding of each of the pairs.

This cable advantageously also has at least one of the following additional characteristics:
  • the rod comprises at least one metallic strip inside the fins and coated with a common insulating coating.
  • the rod comprises a profile made of insulating material and coated with a continuous peripheral metallization from one fin to another.
  • the rod is a profile made of semiconductor polymer material.
  • the rod is spiraled.

The characteristics and advantages of the invention will emerge from the description given below of the exemplary embodiments illustrated in the attached drawing, in which:
  • FIG. 1 is a sectional view of a cable according to the present invention,
  • Figure 2 is a sectional view of an alternative embodiment of this same cable.

The cable shown in Figures 1 and 2 is circular section. It has four pairs 1 to 4 of electrical conductors, the pairs of which are shielded individually, and an outer protective sheath 5 surrounding all of the armored pairs.

The conductors of the pairs are identical. Each has a conductive core such as 6 and insulation device such as 7. The two electrical conductors of each pair are directly assembled to each other by twisting. The cable can of course have a number different from pairs, cables with four pairs being however in practice the most used in networks IT.

In Figure 1, the shielding of the individual pairs is made by a rod 10 with radial fins 11, ensuring separation of pairs and partial shielding of each of them, and by a peripheral screen 13 surrounding the rod and all the pairs in place and completing the shielding of each pair.

For this four-pair cable, the rod 10 with fins 11 is cross-shaped and defines four V-shaped cells such as 14 receiving the four pairs. It has two metal ribbons 15, which are crosswise, and a coating insulator 16, for example made of polyethylene covering the two ribbons. These interior ribbons of the rod form partitions electrostatic between the cells 14.

This rod is in particular produced by extrusion of the coating 16 on the two metal cross tapes 15. The initially flat ribbons are folded longitudinally at right angles to their axis and are held together by their fold line, generally forming four branches with 90 ° from each other, just before the extrusion of the coating. The edges of the ribbons may be flush with the coating, on the periphery of the rod, as shown in dotted lines, to continuity between the peripheral screen 13 and these ribbons interiors.

In an alternative embodiment not shown, the insulated material fin ring is extruded and is coated with peripheral metallization, continuous fin to another.

The assembly of the pairs on the rod 10 is carried out at as the rod scrolls through the point of committing pairs. The pairs are deposited in the different cells and the spiral rod, for example in a rotating machine, with the pairs in place in the alveoli.

The screen 13 is a metallic or mixed ribbon and then plastic and metal. It is ribbon-shaped in a helix around the rod and pairs, as soon as the pairs are placed in the alveoli. This screen closes each V-shaped cell. So, each pair is individually shielded.

The protective sheath 5 is produced as soon as the instead of the screen 13 and is preferably extruded.

Figure 2 shows an alternative embodiment of the cable according to the invention, the elements of which are identical to those of the cable of figure 1 are designated identically and do not are more described and the differences are only specified below.

In this FIG. 2, the shielding of the individual pairs is ensured by a rod 20 of semi-conductive polymetric material, which can be very weakly conductive at low electric field and have an increasing conductivity as a function of the field, and by the screen 13 mentioned above. This rod 20 likewise has radial fins 21. The material of the rod 20 may in particular be of the type of that known from document EP-A-0 507 676, which comprises a polymer matrix having an electrical conductivity less than 10 -8 S / m, but likely to grow under the effect of the electric field. The polymer matrix of this material comprises at least a first insulating, thermosplastic or thermosetting polymer, and at least one second conjugated, doped or dedoped polymer, having an electrical conductivity less than 10 -4 S / m but capable of growing under the effect of the electric field and being in a proportion of 5 to 70% by weight in said matrix. It can also contain a conductive filler, in particular carbon black.

The rod 20 is preferably extruded or can be produced by molding, injection or calendering. The fins of the rod 20 also play the role of partitions of shielding between the cells, whose action is all the more effective as the influence of the pairs on each other is important in the absence of the shielding thus produced.

The cable according to the invention is of more embodiment faster and easier to industrialize than cables circular section of shielding tape around each pair. It has a very high regularity of impedance, which makes it compatible with high transmissions debits. It is also easy and quick to equip on site a terminal connector, since for access to pairs conductors just draw the cable out a suitable length and remove the shielding device along this length, then to cut the rod, which represents a significant time saving. The risks damage the conductors or disturb the layout pairs are also greatly avoided when mounting the connector.
