Abstract

PCT No. PCT/FR96/00228 Sec. 371 Date Oct. 2, 1996 Sec. 102(e) Date Oct. 2, 1996 PCT Filed Feb. 13, 1996 PCT Pub. No. WO96/25066 PCT Pub. Date Aug. 22, 1996A gambling chip includes a decorative pattern provided on at least one side thereof and on an edge thereof. The pattern is formed by pressure pad marking, i.e., applying an ink pattern to a deformable head and stamping the pattern on the chip. Repeated stamping of different color inks can create different patterns. A layer of varnish is also applied to the chip, either between ink layers or above or below all of the ink layers.

Description

The present invention relates to game tokens also called casino chips. By game token hears anything that can be used in a playroom and representing a nominal value predetermined or not, whether it's a disc-shaped token itself or a game board generally representative of a high stake. These tokens are classified into two families depending on the type of games they are used for, "French or European" tokens and "American" tokens, all these tokens being with or without predetermined value. Generally these tokens are made in rigid plastic and resistant to soiling and scratched.

  • i) une fonction d'identification du casino et/ou de la table de jeu et/ou du joueur;
  • ii) une fonction d'identification de la valeur représentée par le jeton;
  • The game tokens are almost systematically the subject of a decoration by marking on their faces and / or edges and which, according to the future uses of the tokens, can range from the simplest to the most complex. For the remainder of the presentation, the term decor extends in its broadest sense and includes in particular any drawing, sign, brand and character (for example letters and numbers) capable of graphic representation and / or visual effect. More precisely, the decoration of the tokens is capable of fulfilling at least one of the multiple functions presented quickly below:
  • i) a function for identifying the casino and / or the gaming table and / or the player;
  • ii) a function for identifying the value represented by the token;
  • iii) an aesthetic decoration function and / or advertising medium; and
  • iv) a security function against the risks of fraudulent manufacturing and / or reproduction.
As regards the marking itself, it is possible to distinguish the marking in thickness or in volume (for example mass marking with or without insert, engraving, etc.), marking a surface (by example printing by mono or multichrome screen printing). The invention relates more particularly to marking surface, it being understood that the surface marking can be done on a surface inside the token (e.g. for tokens and plates "European" made of plastic sheets laminated).

Among the surface marking techniques for tokens of play, we know the most used hot stamping often for simple and monochrome decorations. In this technique, an ink ribbon carrying a ink of predetermined color is arranged on one side of the token, the marking being carried out by a hot punch bearer of the decoration motif. This very technique limited due to the monochrome ribbons and the low complexity of visuals achievable by punch, can only be used on flat objects (without relief) under penalty of incomplete marking on the tokens. There are also high tool costs and fairly long manufacturing times, this technique does not not allowing the use of revealable ink under U.V ..

We also use for the marking of tokens a more efficient technique called "sublimation". According to this technique, we deposit on the token a transfer on which was made the decor (which can be multicolored). Under the action of heat, the ink of transfer is sublimated to come and deposit on the outer surface of the token and migrate into the material on a depth of a few tens of microns.

    • l'impossibilité d'utiliser des encres métallisées (or, argent),
This technique gives better results than the previous one but suffers from significant limitations, in particular with regard to:
    • the need to carry out sublimation on a white plastic support to avoid denaturing of the sublimated colors,
    • the impossibility of using metallic inks (gold, silver),
    • the impossibility of sublimating the white color,
    • the impossibility of using brilliant prints on all the support, and
    • the great difficulty of obtaining bright colors.
    In addition, this technique remains expensive.

Another technique also used for marking surface of game tokens is to print a decoration (for example by screen printing) on the internal face a transparent plastic plate or translucent, smooth or granitized (for example in polycarbonate) which is then glued to the bottom of a corresponding cavity provided on one face of the token. However, this technique is also quite expensive. and is not entirely satisfactory in terms of risk of fraudulent substitution of the wafer marked. It is also sensitive to soiling which are introduced under the plate or in the gap wafer / token.

The document EP-A-0365018 describes an identity card in thin plastic with flat faces in the format of a credit card and intended to authenticate the signature of its bearer. To allow customization of the card, this one has on one of these faces a field of rectangular signature made of a layer of very weak thickness (of the order of 10 µm) of a material likely to permanently receive ink of ballpoint pen. This signature field filed by screen printing, hot stamp or pad printing is covered with a guilloche security print and left free to access for signature by the card holder. Finally the face of the card, except the signature field, receives a mask of varnish with a thickness of 10 µm substantially equal to that of the signature field layer so as to keep the flatness of the face of the card, flatness which can be further improved by a final operation of stratification. This arrangement is intended for protection of personalizable objects with personalization unique like credit cards and aims to facilitate the detection of fraudulent alteration of the signature carried by the signature field.

It follows from the above that there is a need for a new process for marking tokens and plaques game, particularly as substantially planar objects and having a certain thickness, which eliminates or reduces the limitations and other disadvantages of marking methods presented above. Furthermore the final decoration of the token should generally present a good wear resistance capacity to accommodate often severe conditions of use of a token of play, in particular because of the frequent manipulations casino chips on gaming tables or during counting, sorting or washing of tokens.

The invention provides a token or a game plate or a token or plate of similar shape and structure, according to claim 1. According to the invention, the token or the game plate or a token or form plate and analogous structure, having a substantially face flat with a substantially flat bottom cavity is characterized in that the bottom carries a decoration produced by at least one pad printing operation with ink and covered with at least one layer of protective varnish.

The combination of varnish with the decoration makes it possible to obtain visual effects and / or provide physical protection necessary for the decor. Especially among the advantages provided by the deposit of a varnish of cover, one can cite better resistance to wear and scratches and good protection against forgery. Of plus the arrangement of the decoration on the bottom of the cavity obtained by the use of pad printing improves still the protective capacity of the decor. Advantageously, the external part of the edge of the cavity has a chamfer limiting deposit and attachment of dirt on the central part of the token and facilitating the marking of the periphery of the cavity by the ink pad.

Advantageously, the surface layer of the decoration (ink or varnish) has non-stick properties for prevent fraudulent over-marking.

In addition to its certain economic nature, the marking of pad printing game tokens turns out to be very easily adaptable to various types of tokens mark in particular the tokens in relief (thanks to the faculty of deformation of the tampon), in particular for "European" tokens, some of which have notches of molding. Full-face marking is made easier.

The invention also relates to a token or a plate of game or token or plate of form and structure analogs according to claim 19. According to this mode of embodiment of the invention, at least one face of the token has a softened edge, such as a chamfer or rounding, the edge with a softened profile being marked by pad printing by the same marking operation of the face so as to achieve simultaneous marking at least partial of the token edge. Thanks to this arrangement, it is possible to mark both sides and the edge of the token in two operations instead of three. So the pad printing allows direct marking on the edge of the token (e.g. marking a barcode), which today cannot be obtained by other markings of surface mentioned above.

According to one embodiment of the invention, the decor by pad printing is done in multi-color for example four-color printing, especially with more or less inks less transparent. As it will appear in the description below, the final color image of the decor obtained by pad printing consists of the complementarity of monochrome images, each of these monochrome intermediate images being engraved on clichés. After inking the plates, a stamp comes recover the ink from these snaps by pressure, for the deposit entirely by pressing on the token to be marked. Also in relation to sublimation and even to screen printing where the fineness of the wefts is limited by compatibility problems between screen frames and screen frames, pad printing allows without particular difficulty the use of very fine shots, greater than 150 points / inch, which increases, in addition to the quality of the decor, the security nature of the token.

Advantageously marking the decoration by pad printing is preceded by the deposit, in particular by pad printing, a primer to improve the surface condition support of the pad-printed decoration and / or facilitate the adhesion of the decor and / or create a background.

According to a variant of the invention also advantageous from a security point of view, the decor obtained by pad printing is done with at least one ink or varnish revealable under ultraviolet radiation.

According to another variant, the decoration obtained by pad printing is performed with at least one layer of ink / varnish mixture. This feature allows between others to get a brighter marking and harden the layer forming the decoration.

According to yet another variant, the marking of the decoration is obtained by at least one pad printing operation ink with a visual effect or pattern by at least one layer of varnish deposited by pad printing either in the area of the marking or between two printing layers of the latter. The pattern can be placed on all (for example a checkerboard) or part decoration (marking the name of the casino with a varnish more or less shiny and / or revealable under U.V.).

According to yet another variant, the decoration obtained by pad printing is carried out in part by one or more varnish layers of various visual appearance chosen from matt varnishes, gloss varnishes, tinted varnishes, varnishes iridescent, pearly varnish, glitter varnish, granite varnish, aging varnish and crackle varnish. This technique allows to obtain a particular visual aspect for the decor and provides good protection against fraudulent reproductions.

According to another embodiment of the invention the layer of varnish associated with the decoration is deposited in cover of said decoration obtained by pad printing and has a thickness at least equal to 20 μm. Of preferably the layer of cover varnish present a thickness between 50 and 100 µm thus ensuring to the decor a protective layer of high resistance mechanical. Conveniently the layer of varnish cover is deposited on said decor by spraying, soaking or depositing with a drop or curtain.

According to a variant, the varnish of the cover layer consists of one or more synthetic resins powdered with hard materials for example silica-based materials. According to another variant the varnish of the cover layer consists of one or several synthetic resins loaded with materials giving the varnish non-slip properties, by example of materials based on elastomer or wax.

According to yet another variant of the invention, the installation of the layer of cover varnish on the decor is preceded a token coding and / or numbering operation, incremented or not, by inkjet or laser printing, hot stamping or pad printing over the decoration.

Of course, the invention also relates to various methods of marking by pad printing at least one of the sides or edge of a game token and the application of pad printing to marking and decoration of game tokens.

More particularly, according to a particular method of the invention, at least one of the sides or edge of a token or game board or a token of similar shape and structure, comprising at least one flat-bottom cavity by marking on the bottom of the cavity of a decoration by at least one pad printing operation with ink and then laying in cover covering at least one layer of varnish protection.

According to a variant of the method according to the invention, mark the decoration with at least one operation pad printing in ink and then on the cover of said decoration by at least one layer of varnish deposited by pad printing, spraying, soaking or depositing drop or curtain.

According to another variant, a decor partly by pad printing of one or more varnish layers of various visual appearance chosen from matt varnishes, gloss varnishes, tinted varnishes, varnishes iridescent, pearly varnish, glitter varnish, granite varnish, aging varnish and crackle varnish. According to still another variant, the decoration is marked with at least one pad printing operation of a mixture ink / varnish.

    Selon encore une autre variante on procède au marquage d'un décor par au moins une opération de tampographie à l'encre avec la réalisation d'un effet visuel ou d'un motif par au moins une couche de vernis déposée par tampographie soit en superficie du décor soit entre deux couches d'impression à l'encre du décor.According to yet another variant, the marking is carried out. of a decoration by at least one pad printing operation ink with a visual effect or pattern by at least one layer of varnish deposited by pad printing either in surface area of decoration or between two decor ink printing layers.

    L'invention concerne également un procédé de marquage d'au moins une des faces d'un jeton ou plaque de jeu ou d'un jeton ou plaque de forme et de structure analogues, présentant un bord à profil adouci tel qu'un chanfrein ou un arrondi, caractérisé en ce que ledit bord à profil adouci est marqué par tampographie par la même opération de marquage de ladite face de façon à réaliser le marquage simultané d'au moins une partie de la tranche du jeton ou de la plaque.The invention also relates to a marking method at least one of the faces of a token or game plate or a token or plate of similar shape and structure, having a smooth profile edge such as a chamfer or rounded, characterized in that said profile edge softened is marked by pad printing by the same operation of marking said face so as to achieve the simultaneous marking of at least part of the section token or plate.

    Outre les jetons et plaques de jeu, l'invention est applicable à des jetons et plaques analogues dans leurs structures (notamment leurs formes), leurs finalités et leurs conditions d'utilisation tels que jetons de prépaiement, jetons et/ou plaques d'accès, contremarques, etc.. . In addition to the chips and playing plates, the invention is applicable to tokens and similar plates in their structures (including their forms), their purposes and their terms of use such as tokens prepayment, tokens and / or access plates, countermarks, etc.

    D'autres caractéristiques et avantages de la présente invention apparaítront à la lecture de la description qui va suivre en référence aux dessins ci-joints dans lesquels:

    • la figure 1 représente le schéma de principe d'une installation de tampographie permettant la mise en oeuvre de l'invention;
    • les figures 2a et 2b représentent une opération de marquage par tampographie d'un jeton de jeu selon l'invention à bord chanfreiné, respectivement avant marquage (figure 2a) et pendant le marquage montrant le tampon comprimé (figure 2b); et
    • les figures 3a, 3b, 3c représentent les sections diamétrales de trois jetons à insert métal (jetons "américains"), en particulier la figure 3a concerne un jeton connu à pastille imprimée, et les figures 3b et 3c concernent deux variantes de jetons marqués par tampographie selon l'invention.
    Other characteristics and advantages of the present invention will appear on reading the description which follows with reference to the attached drawings in which:
    • FIG. 1 represents the block diagram of a pad printing installation allowing the implementation of the invention;
    • FIGS. 2a and 2b represent an operation of marking by pad printing a game chip according to the invention with a chamfered edge, respectively before marking (FIG. 2a) and during the marking showing the compressed pad (FIG. 2b); and
    • FIGS. 3a, 3b, 3c represent the diametrical sections of three tokens with metal insert ("American" tokens), in particular FIG. 3a relates to a known token with printed pad, and FIGS. 3b and 3c relate to two variants of tokens marked by pad printing according to the invention.

    La mise en oeuvre du marquage par tampographie d'au moins une des faces d'un jeton de jeu est susceptible d'être réalisée par divers types de machines ou installations. A titre d'exemple non limitatif la figure 1 illustre le principe d'une telle installation de mise en oeuvre de l'invention.The implementation of marking by pad printing of minus one side of a game token is susceptible to be carried out by various types of machines or facilities. By way of nonlimiting example, the figure 1 illustrates the principle of such a setting installation of the invention.

    Si l'on considère la figure 1, la référence 10 représente un bâti horizontal sur lequel se déplace selon un mouvement pas-à-pas un ruban dont chaque section 12 est pourvue d'une alvéole 14 destinée à recevoir un jeton à marquer 16 (la face à marquer dépassant très légèrement de la surface de la section 12 du ruban). A titre d'exemple non limitatif, le jeton 16 à faces planes est réalisé par injection de matière plastique. Dans certaines installations non représentées le ruban à sections 12 est remplacé par un plateau tournant ou carrousel. Les jetons 16 passent successivement devant un tampon encreur 18 déplaçable selon des mouvements verticaux alternatifs. Le tampon 18 présente une tête déformable 19 en matériau synthétique (matériau siliconé), en l'espèce à bout conique. Un porte-cliché 20 est également susceptible de mouvements alternatifs entre la verticale du tampon 18 (position 20) et la verticale d'un réservoir d'encre 22 (position 20'). L'opération de tampographie proprement dite est réalisée de la façon suivante. Après encrage du cliché (position 20') le porte-cliché est déplacé dans la position 20. Un premier mouvement vertical descendant du tampon 18 permet de récupérer l'encre (ou le vernis) par simple pression. Après remontée du tampon 18 et retrait du porte-cliché (vers la position 20'), le tampon 18 subit un second mouvement vertical descendant pour déposer l'encre (ou le vernis) par simple pression sur la face en vis-à-vis du jeton 16 à marquer. On réalise ainsi le marquage d'une image (finale ou intermédiaire) monochrome.If we consider Figure 1, the reference 10 represents a horizontal frame on which moves in a step-by-step movement of a ribbon, each of which section 12 is provided with a cell 14 intended for receive a token to be marked 16 (the face to be marked very slightly protruding from the surface of section 12 ribbon). By way of nonlimiting example, the token 16 with flat faces is made by injecting material plastic. In some installations not shown the section tape 12 is replaced by a tray turning or carousel. Tokens 16 pass successively in front of a movable ink pad 18 according to alternative vertical movements. Stamp 18 has a deformable head 19 made of synthetic material (silicone material), in this case with a conical tip. A plate holder 20 is also susceptible to movement alternating between the vertical of the buffer 18 (position 20) and the vertical of an ink tank 22 (position 20 '). The actual pad printing operation is performed as follows. After inking the plate (position 20 ') the plate holder is moved in the position 20. A first vertical movement down from stamp 18 allows the ink (or varnish) to be recovered by one touch. After raising buffer 18 and removing of the plate holder (towards position 20 '), the stamp 18 undergoes a second vertical downward movement to deposit ink (or varnish) by simply pressing the face opposite the token 16 to be marked. We realize thus marking an image (final or intermediate) monochrome.

    Sans sortir du cadre de l'invention, d'autres installations utilisent un porte-cliché fixe au niveau de l'encrier, et un tampon coulissant pour aller frapper l'encrier et susceptible d'un second mouvement alternatif vertical pour aller marquer le produit. De même, on utilise des encriers de tampographie ouverts ou fermés (dans ce cas pour limiter le séchage des encres et des vernis).Without departing from the scope of the invention, others installations use a fixed plate holder at the level inkwell, and a sliding pad to strike the inkwell and susceptible to a second movement vertical alternative to mark the product. Of even, we use open pad printing inks or closed (in this case to limit the drying of the inks and varnishes).

    Pour la multichromie, l'image finale du décor est constituée par complémentarité et/ou superposition d'images en une seule couleur, chacune de ces images intermédiaires étant gravée sur des clichés distincts. On utilise pour le marquage multichrome soit plusieurs porte-clichés mobiles soit une série d'unités de tampographie monochrome. Les encres sont en général très fluides, avec un certain caractère de transparence et capables de sécher rapidement pour permettre une opération suivante de marquage dans une autre couleur sans risque de mélange des impressions successives de couleurs différentes (de l'ordre de 2 secondes entre deux marquages).For multi-color, the final image of the decor is constituted by complementarity and / or superposition single color images, each of these images intermediaries being engraved on separate plates. We use for multi-color marking that is several movable plate holders or a series of units of monochrome pad printing. Inks are generally very fluids, with a certain character of transparency and able to dry quickly to allow next operation of marking in another color without risk of mixing successive impressions of different colors (around 2 seconds between two markings).

    Les encres utilisées sont de multiples couleurs: par exemple bleu, vert, rouge et noir pour la quadrichromie. On utilise également des encres métallisées par exemple, gris métallisé, pour donner des effets spéciaux sur l'image: effet moiré, irisé, nacré, etc.. .The inks used are multiple colors: by blue, green, red and black example for the four-color process. Metallic inks are also used for example, metallic gray, to give special effects on image: moire, iridescent, pearly effect, etc.

    Selon une variante de l'invention on associe au décor une couche de vernis en réalisant le décor par tampographie avec au moins un couche de mélange encre/vernis permettant ainsi d'obtenir un décor brillant et/ou plus résistant à l'usure. Selon une autre variante de l'invention on réalise par tampographie de vernis des motifs mat/brillant (par exemples des fonds pleins tels que des damiers ou des inscriptions telles que le nom du casino, la valeur du jeton, etc.) très difficiles à reproduire par photo (donc très sécuritaires). Ces motifs sont réalisés par le dépôt par tampographie d'une ou plusieurs couches de vernis soit en superficie soit entre deux couches d'impression du décor déposées par tampographie à l'encre. Toujours dans le cadre de l'invention, on réalise en association avec la tampographie à l'encre une partie du décor par tampographie d'une ou plusieurs couches de vernis d'aspect visuel divers (et éventuellement différents) choisis parmi les vernis mat, vernis brillant, vernis nacré, vernis teinté, vernis irisé, vernis granité, vernis pailleté, vernis à viellir et vernis à craqueler. Cette dernière technique modifie l'aspect visuel du décor et permet de rendre le décor encore plus complexe.According to a variant of the invention, the decoration is associated a layer of varnish by decorating with pad printing with at least one layer of mixture ink / varnish allowing to obtain a decoration shiny and / or more resistant to wear. According to another variant of the invention, pad printing is carried out varnish with matt / glossy patterns (for example backgrounds solid such as checkerboards or inscriptions such the name of the casino, the value of the chip, etc.) very difficult to reproduce by photo (therefore very security). These patterns are made by filing by pad printing of one or more layers of varnish either in surface area between two printing layers of the decor deposited by pad printing in ink. always in within the framework of the invention, it is carried out in association with pad printing with ink part of the decoration by pad printing of one or more layers of varnish various visual (and possibly different) chosen from matt varnish, gloss varnish, varnish pearlescent, tinted varnish, iridescent varnish, granite varnish, glitter varnish, aging varnish and crackle varnish. This last technique modifies the visual aspect of the decor and makes the decor even more complex.

    Bien entendu la tampographie permet l'utilisation de trames sur les clichés, ce qui est très apprécié pour l'impression de décor du type "photographie". Par rapport à la sublimation et même à la sérigraphie où la finesse des trames est limitée par des problèmes de compatibilité entre les trames des écrans et les trames des clichés, la tampographie permet sans difficulté particulière l'utilisation de trames de grande finesse, supérieure à 150 points/pouce, ce qui accroít, outre la qualité du décor, le caractère sécuritaire du jeton, en effet la difficulté de reproduction (notamment pour les reproductions non-autorisées) croít avec la finesse de la trame.Of course pad printing allows the use of frames on the clichés, which is very appreciated for the impression of decor like "photography". Through in relation to sublimation and even screen printing where the fineness of the frames is limited by problems of compatibility between screen frames and frames shots, pad printing allows without difficulty particular the use of very fine wefts, greater than 150 dots / inch, which increases, in addition to quality of the decor, the security character of the token, effect the difficulty of reproduction (especially for unauthorized reproductions) grows with the finesse of the frame.

    Selon un mode de réalisation avantageux de l'invention le décor obtenu par tampographie, avec au moins une opération de tampographie à l'encre, est protégé par recouvrement d'une nappe de vernis de protection, tel qu'un vernis transparent par exemple mat, satiné ou brillant. En pratique on dépose par tampographie, par pulvérisation, par trempage, par dépôt à la goutte ou au rideau au moins une couche de vernis de protection d'une épaisseur au moins égale à 20 µm. De préférence la couche de vernis de couverture présente une épaisseur comprise entre 50 et 100 µm pour assurer une bonne résistance à l'usure et à la salissure. Le dépôt par trempage, pulvérisation ou au rideau est bien adapté à la couverture d'un décor s'étendant sur une pleine face d'un jeton (voir par exemple les jetons à faces planes 16 dits à décor "pleine face" [en anglais "full face"] et les jetons 30) tandis que le dépôt à la goutte est bien adapté à la couverture d'un décor tampographié en fond de cavité (voir par exemple le jeton à cavités illustré à la figure 3b).According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention the decoration obtained by pad printing, with at least one ink pad printing operation, is protected by covering with a layer of protective varnish, such than a transparent varnish, for example matt, satin or brilliant. In practice, we deposit by pad printing, spraying, dipping, drop or drop deposition curtain at least one layer of protective varnish thickness at least equal to 20 µm. Preferably the layer of cover varnish has a thickness between 50 and 100 µm to ensure good resistance to wear and soiling. The deposit by soaking, spraying or curtaining is well suited to the cover of a decoration extending over a full face a token (see for example flat-faced tokens 16 so-called "full face" decor and tokens 30) while the drip deposit is well suited for covering a padprinted decoration in bottom of cavity (see for example the cavity token illustrated in Figure 3b).

    D'une façon générale les vernis de couverture procurent une protection d'une dureté au moins équivalente à celle du matériau plastique utilisé pour le jeton (entre 70 et 85 en dureté Shore D équivalent au haut du niveau 2 de l'échelle de MOHS [échelle des minéralogistes]). Toutefois des duretés supérieures peuvent être obtenues avec des vernis polyuréthanes et/ou acryliques durcissables aux rayons UV ou des vernis constitués d'une ou plusieurs résines synthétiques chargées de poudre de matériaux durs par exemple de matériaux à base de silice. A l'inverse, certains vernis de couverture sont constitués d'une ou plusieurs résines synthétiques chargées de matériaux conférant au vernis des propriétés antidérapantes, par exemple des matériaux à base d'élastomère ou de cire. De plus le marquage peut recevoir un revêtement "anti-adhérence" à l'aide d'encres et vernis siliconés ou fluorés (PTFE) pour éviter les surimpressions et/ou falsifications du décor.In general, cover varnishes provide protection of a hardness at least equivalent to that plastic material used for the token (between 70 and 85 in Shore D hardness equivalent to the top of level 2 of the MOHS scale (mineralogists scale)). However, higher hardnesses can be obtained with polyurethane and / or acrylic varnishes curable with UV rays or varnishes one or more synthetic resins charged with hard materials powder for example based materials silica. Conversely, some cover varnishes consist of one or more synthetic resins loaded with materials giving properties to the varnish non-slip, e.g. base materials elastomer or wax. Furthermore the marking can receive a "non-stick" coating using silicone or fluorinated (PTFE) inks and varnishes for avoid overprinting and / or falsification of the decor.

    Selon une variante de l'invention, la pose du vernis de couverture sur le décor du jeton est précédée d'une opération de marquage d'un codage et/ou d'une numérotation, incrémentée ou non, par impression jet d'encre ou laser, marquage à chaud ou par tampographie par dessus le décor, ce dernier pouvant être obtenu par tout procédé approprié (notamment décor de type tampographié ou hologramme). D'une façon pratique il est possible marquer directement sur le décor un codage (par exemple un code barre) ou un numéro de lot et/ou de série selon la demande du casino utilisateur (ce numéro pouvant à l'occasion être incrémenté). Ce codage et/ou cette numérotation peuvent rester discrets par l'utilisation d'encre révélable aux rayons UV.According to a variant of the invention, the installation of the varnish of cover on the decoration of the token is preceded by a operation of marking a coding and / or a numbering, incremented or not, by jet printing ink or laser, hot stamping or pad printing over the decoration, the latter being obtainable by any suitable process (in particular type decor padprinted or hologram). In a practical way it is possible to mark directly on the decoration a coding (by example barcode) or lot number and / or serial as requested by the user casino (this number may occasionally be incremented). This coding and / or this numbering can remain discreet by the use of UV-revealing ink.

    De même pour encore accroítre le caractère sécuritaire des marquages, certaines encres (ou vernis) utilisée en tampograhie pour le décor reçoivent des pigments susceptibles de se révéler sous rayonnement ultraviolet.Likewise to further increase security markings, certain inks (or varnishes) used in pad printing for the decor receive pigments likely to reveal themselves under ultraviolet radiation.

    De plus, la tenue du décor obtenu par tampographie peut être améliorée par diverses techniques avant ou après marquage et adaptées au matériau support du décor du jeton (matière synthétique, métal de l'insert central, etc.), par exemple: avant marquage par traitement mécanique (sablage), traitement chimique (acide), par traitement physique (effet CORONA, flammage), après marquage par traitement thermique, séchage, rayonnement (infrarouge ou U.V.), ou par l'utilisation d'encres polymérisables ou sublimables (avec un effet de pénétration dans la masse du matériau plastique). Dans certains cas (marquage en fond de cavité, marquage sur une surface guillochée, rattrapage de planéité, etc..) il est intéressant de faire précéder le marquage par tampographie par le dépôt, notamment par tampographie, d'une couche d'apprêt pour supprimer les défauts de surface (rugosité, manque d'homogénéité de couleur) du support du décor et/ou favoriser l'adhérence du décor sur le jeton et/ou réaliser un fond de décor.In addition, the holding of the decoration obtained by pad printing can be improved by various techniques before or after marking and adapted to the support material of the decoration of the token (synthetic material, metal of the central insert, etc.), for example: before marking by treatment mechanical (sandblasting), chemical treatment (acid), by physical treatment (CORONA effect, flaming), after marking by heat treatment, drying, radiation (infrared or U.V.), or by the use of inks polymerizable or sublimable (with an effect of penetration into the mass of the plastic material). In some cases (marking at the bottom of the cavity, marking on guilloche surface, flatness compensation, etc.) it is interesting to precede the marking with pad printing by deposition, in particular by pad printing, a primer to remove defects from surface (roughness, lack of color consistency) of the decoration support and / or promote the adhesion of the decoration on the token and / or create a background.

    Ainsi donc la tampographie permet d'obtenir un marquage des jetons de bonne qualité avec une grande complexité du décor (notamment en tirant profit de la transparence des encres et de l'aspect mat/brillant des vernis) et la possibilité d'opérations sécuritaires supplémentaires, tout ceci à l'aide du même outillage de base, l'unité de tampographie. Cette particularité, les faibles coûts d'outillage, la flexibilité de la technique et les grandes cadences obtenues par cette méthode d'impression (jusqu'à 3000 jetons/heure) en font une méthode de marquage des jetons de jeu très économique. Comme déjà mentionné ci-avant, le décor par tampographie entrant dans le cadre de la présente invention, peut être du plus simple au plus complexe et constitué de dessins, signes, marques, caractères, lettres, chiffres, codes barres etc.., tous susceptibles de représentation graphique pris individuellement ou en combinaison. Bien entendu à ce décor par tampographie peuvent sans sortir du cadre de l'invention s'ajouter ou se superposer des signes obtenus par exemple par un marquage dans la masse de jetons (notamment par injections multiples hétérochromes) ou par gravure.
    Une autre propriété très intéressante de la tampographie pour les jetons de jeu résulte de son aptitude au marquage d'objets présentant un certain relief du fait de la déformation des tampons. D'une façon générale les faces de jetons de jeu sont sensiblement planes éventuellement pourvues d'un léger relief (côtes, gravure, crans de moulage, etc.). Il est ainsi possible de marquer ces jetons à relief sur leurs faces entières et ce, en fin de fabrication des jetons (sans risque de déformation ou de dégradation du décor). Cette propriété est également utilisée pour faciliter le marquage de la tranche des jetons.
    Thus pad printing makes it possible to obtain a marking of good quality tokens with a great complexity of the decor (in particular by taking advantage of the transparency of the inks and of the matt / shiny appearance of the varnishes) and the possibility of additional security operations. , all using the same basic tool, the pad printing unit. This feature, the low tooling costs, the flexibility of the technique and the high rates obtained by this printing method (up to 3000 chips / hour) make it a very economical method of marking gaming chips. As already mentioned above, the decoration by pad printing within the scope of the present invention can be from the simplest to the most complex and consisting of drawings, signs, brands, characters, letters, numbers, bar codes etc., all susceptible of graphic representation taken individually or in combination. Of course, to this decoration by pad printing can without departing from the scope of the invention add or superimpose signs obtained for example by marking in the mass of tokens (in particular by multiple heterochromatic injections) or by etching.
    Another very interesting property of pad printing for game tokens results from its ability to mark objects having a certain relief due to the deformation of the pads. In general, the faces of game tokens are substantially planar, possibly provided with a slight relief (ribs, engraving, molding notches, etc.). It is thus possible to mark these tokens in relief on their entire faces and this, at the end of the manufacture of the tokens (without risk of deformation or deterioration of the decoration). This property is also used to facilitate the marking of the token edge.

    D'une façon classique, le marquage complet d'un jeton est réalisé en trois impressions (une par face et une pour la tranche du jeton): Dans le cadre de l'invention après impression par tampographie des faces comme décrit ci-dessus, l'impression de la tranche est obtenue par marquage latéral à l'aide d'un tampon rotatif (ou d'un tampon-rouleau rotatif en cas de marquage simultané de plusieurs jetons disposés en pile). Toutefois, toujours dans le cadre de l'invention, il s'est avéré possible de réaliser par tampographie un marquage complet du jeton en deux opérations. Pour ce faire, le bord d'au moins une face du jeton est modifié (par rapport au bord droit habituel) pour présenter un profil adouci, tel qu'un chanfrein ou un arrondi. Les figures 2a et 2b illustrent le marquage d'un jeton 30 (à titre d'exemple non limitatif, réalisé en matière plastique injectée) dont les deux faces 32, 32' sensiblement planes présentent chacune un chanfrein périphérique 34, 34' (selon un angle d'environ 60° avec la face correspondante), le jeton étant par ailleurs symétrique par rapport au plan horizontal PP' parallèle aux faces 32, 32'. Comme on peut le constater sur les figures 2a et 2b, la profondeur de l'alvéole 36 du ruban-porteur du jeton 38 est légèrement inférieure (de quelques 1/10ème de mm) à la demi-épaisseur du jeton 30, permettant ainsi l'encrage total du chanfrein conique 34 lorsque la tête déformable 42 du tampon 40 est comprimée (avec léger dépassement du rebord 44 de la tête 42 au-delà du plan médian PP'). Ainsi donc, chaque opération d'impression permet le marquage d'une face et d'une demi-tranche du jeton.In a conventional way, the complete marking of a token is produced in three prints (one per side and one for the edge of the token): In the context of the invention after pad printing of the faces as described above, the printing of the slice is obtained by lateral marking with a rotary pad (or a rotary roller pad in case of simultaneous marking of several tokens arranged in a stack). However, always in the context of the invention, it has proved possible to carry out a complete token marking by pad printing in two operations. To do this, the edge of at least one side of the token is changed (relative to the right edge usual) to present a softened profile, such as chamfer or rounding. Figures 2a and 2b illustrate the marking of a token 30 (by way of example not restrictive, made of injected plastic) the two substantially flat faces 32, 32 ′ have each a peripheral chamfer 34, 34 '(according to a angle of about 60 ° with the corresponding face), the token being otherwise symmetrical with respect to the plane horizontal PP 'parallel to the faces 32, 32'. As we can see in Figures 2a and 2b, the depth of the cell 36 of the carrier tape of the token 38 is slightly less (by a few 1/10 of a mm) than the half thickness of the token 30, thus allowing total inking of the conical chamfer 34 when the head deformable 42 of pad 40 is compressed (with slight protrusion of the rim 44 of the head 42 beyond the plane median PP '). So therefore, each printing operation allows the marking of a face and a half-slice of the token.

    Outre le marquage des jetons à faces planes, notamment exemple les jetons à décor "pleine face" l'invention concerne également le marquage de jetons dont les faces sensiblement planes présentent chacune une cavité centrale, le plus souvent circulaire, d'une profondeur de quelques dixièmes de millimètre par exemple les jetons monoblocs injectés ou les jetons obtenus par injections successives de matières plastiques de couleurs différentes pour obtenir un premier décor multicolore dans la masse du jeton (par exemple surmoulage d'une couronne périphérique sur une âme médiane sensiblement plane obtenue en première injection). D'une façon générale le marquage par tampographie (et la couverture de protection par vernis ou plaquette) de ces jetons à cavités sans insert est très proche sinon identique au marquage par tampographie décrit en détails ci-après dans le cadre du marquage des jetons à cavités avec insert.In addition to marking tokens with flat faces, in particular example tokens with "full face" decoration the invention also relates to the marking of tokens whose faces substantially flat each has a cavity central, usually circular, deep of a few tenths of a millimeter for example the monoblock tokens injected or tokens obtained by successive injections of plastics different colors to get a first decor multicolored in the mass of the token (for example overmolding of a peripheral crown on a core substantially flat median obtained first injection). Generally marking by pad printing (and varnish protection cover or wafer) of these cavity tokens without insert is very close if not identical to pad printing marking described in detail below as part of the marking of cavity tokens with insert.

    Toujours dans le cadre de l'ivention, la tampographie est utilisée pour le marquage de jetons à insert (dont les faces présentent chacune une cavité centrale) et correspondant à l'appellation jeton "américain". La figure 3a représente une section diamétrale (avec agrandissement dans le sens de l'épaisseur pour la clarté du dessin) d'un jeton 50 aujourd'hui en fabrication. Le jeton connu 50 est principalement constitué d'une couronne annulaire 52 en matière plastique surmoulée (de préférence ABS, polystyrène, PMMA) sur un insert central en forme de disque et formant lest 54 par exemple en métal (notamment acier ou laiton) pour définir de chaque côté du disque un évidement ou cavité circulaire 56 de faible profondeur (en général comprise entre 0,25 et 0,5 mm). Le jeton connu 50 est terminé par la mise en place de deux étiquettes adhésives 58, 58' de préférence en polycarbonate dont la face interne porte un décor visuel imprimé par sérigraphie. On peut remarquer sur la figure 3a que l'épaisseur des étiquettes est légèrement inférieure à la profondeur de la cavité 56 pour éviter les rayures et la dégradation du décor. Il est à remarquer que dans ce type de jeton la couronne 52 est très souvent réalisée par injections successives de matières plastiques de couleurs distinctes dans des empreintes de formes intermédiaires variées pour obtenir des motifs multicolores (de 2 à 5 couleurs) dans la masse même de la matière injectée. Il en résulte que le marquage superficiel intéresse principalement la partie centrale du jeton.Still within the framework of ivention, pad printing is used for marking insert tokens (including the faces each have a central cavity) and corresponding to the designation "American" token. The Figure 3a shows a diametral section (with enlargement in the thickness direction for the clarity of the drawing) of a token 50 today in manufacturing. The known token 50 is mainly consisting of an annular crown 52 in material molded plastic (preferably ABS, polystyrene, PMMA) on a central disc-shaped insert and forming ballast 54 for example of metal (in particular steel or brass) to define on each side of the disc a recess or circular cavity 56 of shallow depth (generally between 0.25 and 0.5 mm). The token known 50 is ended by the establishment of two adhesive labels 58, 58 'preferably in polycarbonate, the internal surface of which has a visual decoration printed by screen printing. We can see in the figure 3a that the thickness of the labels is slightly less than the depth of the cavity 56 to avoid scratches and deterioration of the decor. He is at notice that in this type of token the crown 52 is very often carried out by successive injections of plastics of different colors in imprints of various intermediate forms to obtain multicolored patterns (from 2 to 5 colors) in the mass of the injected material. As a result, the superficial marking mainly interests the part central token.

    Si l'on considère les figures 3b et 3c, les jetons 60 et 70 présentent la même structure de base à faces sensiblement planes avec une couronne annulaire 52 surmoulée sur un insert 54 formant lest pour définir une cavité centrale 56 de profondeur faible mais variable, par exemple de l'ordre de 0,25 mm pour le jeton 60 ou de l'ordre de 0,50 mm pour le jeton 70. Dans un double souci d'économie et de sécurité accrue, on procède dans deux variantes de jetons selon de l'invention, les jetons 60 et 70, au marquage par tampographie (à l'encre et éventuellement au vernis) sur le fond 62 en général sensiblement plat de la cavité 56. Le marquage est réalisé soit sur le métal soit du matériau plastique en cas d'insert plastique (éventuellement après la pose d'une couche d'apprêt améliorant l'état de surface du fond 62). Avantageusement le décor ainsi obtenu est protégé soit par une ou plusieurs couches 64 de vernis transparent de couverture (jeton 60 - figure 3b) soit par une pastille ou plaquette adhésive 65 (non imprimée) en matière plastique résistante et transparente, par exemple en polycarbonate ou en polyester, disposée sur le décor 63 éventuellement protégé d'un vernis (jeton 70 - figure 3c). Dans la pratique l'option vernis (sans plaquettes) donne de meilleurs résultats du point de vue coût de fabrication, sécurité, résistance mécanique et résistance à l'usure (cas du jeton 60). De plus en utilisant une nappe de vernis de couverture d'épaisseur convenable (entre 50 et 100 µm), par exemple une nappe obtenue par une couche de vernis déposée à la goutte sur le décor dans la cavité, et/ou des vernis durs ou renforcés, on obtient une résistance à l'usure au moins équivalente à celle obtenue avec des plaquettes.If we consider Figures 3b and 3c, tokens 60 and 70 have the same basic face structure substantially planar with an annular crown 52 overmolded on an insert 54 forming ballast to define a central cavity 56 of small but variable depth, for example of the order of 0.25 mm for the token 60 or of around 0.50 mm for token 70. In a double concern for economy and increased security, we proceed in two variants of tokens according to the invention, the tokens 60 and 70, stamped by pad printing (ink and possibly varnish) on the bottom 62 in general substantially flat of the cavity 56. The marking is made either on metal or plastic material plastic insert case (possibly after installation a primer layer improving the surface finish of the background 62). Advantageously, the decoration thus obtained is protected either by one or more layers 64 of varnish cover transparency (token 60 - figure 3b) or by an adhesive patch or plate 65 (not printed) made of resistant and transparent plastic, for example in polycarbonate or polyester, arranged on the decor 63 possibly protected with a varnish (token 70 - Figure 3c). In practice the varnish option (without platelets) gives better results from the point of view manufacturing cost, safety, mechanical strength and resistance to wear (case of token 60). More and more using a layer of thick cover varnish suitable (between 50 and 100 µm), for example a tablecloth obtained by a layer of varnish deposited dropwise on the decoration in the cavity, and / or hard varnishes or reinforced, at least wear resistance is obtained equivalent to that obtained with platelets.

    Dans le cas où le jeton présente une cavité relativement profonde (de l'ordre de 0,50 mm), par exemple pour les jetons à plaquettes, il est de plus avantageux pour assurer un encrage correct par le tampon de la zone périphérique du fond 62 de la cavité 56 de réaliser un chanfrein 68 sur l'extérieur du bord droit 66 de la cavité 56, la face externe de la plaquette 65 après montage de cette dernière venant sensiblement à la hauteur de la base du chanfrein 68 comme illustré sur la figure 3c. De façon optionnelle, il est également prévu de modifier la forme du tampon pour adapter ce dernier à la forme et la profondeur de la cavité.In the case where the token has a relatively cavity deep (around 0.50 mm), for example for chips to chips, it is more advantageous for ensure correct inking by the area buffer peripheral of the bottom 62 of the cavity 56 to produce a chamfer 68 on the outside of the right edge 66 of the cavity 56, the outer face of the wafer 65 after mounting of the latter coming substantially to the height of base of chamfer 68 as illustrated in figure 3c. Optionally, it is also planned modify the shape of the stamp to adapt it to the shape and depth of the cavity.

    On comprendra aisément que le décor obtenu par tampographie est, une fois revêtu de sa protection par vernis, très difficile à modifier ou à faire disparaítre que ce soit pour un jeton à cavités (par exemple un jeton "américain" 60 illustré à la figure 3b ou un jeton à cavités sans insert) ou un jeton plat à décor "pleine face" (par exemple le jeton 15 ou le jeton 30). Il est également possible par l'utilisation de vernis de couverture chargés de matériaux divers de faire varier l'état de surface du vernis (donc du jeton), son aspect visuel et/ou son touché. En plus des exemples cités ci-avant, le vernis de la couche de couverture peut être constitué d'une ou plusieurs résines synthétiques chargées de particules de forme et de granulométrie variables en matière plastique et/ou minérale pour donner un aspect granité à la surface de vernis et/ou augmenter le coefficient de frottement de cette dernière.We can easily understand that the decor obtained by pad printing is, once coated with its protection by varnish, very difficult to modify or remove whether for a cavity token (for example a "American" token 60 illustrated in FIG. 3b or a token with cavities without insert) or a flat token with "full" decor face "(e.g. token 15 or token 30). also possible by the use of blanket loaded with various materials to vary the surface condition of the varnish (and therefore of the token), its appearance visual and / or touched. In addition to the examples cited above, the coating of the cover layer can be made of one or more synthetic resins charged with particles of shape and particle size plastic and / or mineral variables for give a granite appearance to the varnish surface and / or increase the coefficient of friction of this last.

    Parmi les procédés de mise en oeuvre de l'invention, on procède à la pose d'un décor sur le jeton, notamment un décor du type tampographié ou hologramme, puis à la pose sur le décor d'au moins une couche de vernis de couverture. A titre de variante, on procède à la pose d'un décor sur le jeton, notamment un décor du type tampographié ou hologramme, suivi du marquage d'un codage et/ou d'une numérotation, incrémentée ou non, par impression jet d'encre ou laser, marquage à chaud ou tampographie par dessus le décor, puis de la pose sur le décor et le codage d'au moins une couche de vernis de couverture.Among the methods of implementing the invention, there are installs a decoration on the token, in particular a pad-type or hologram decor, then installation on the decor of at least one layer of varnish blanket. As a variant, we proceed with the installation a decoration on the token, in particular a decoration of the type padprinted or hologram, followed by the marking of a coding and / or numbering, incremented or not, by inkjet or laser printing, hot stamping or pad printing over the decoration, then laying on the decoration and coding of at least one layer of varnish blanket.
