Abstract

A suction roll (1) for the paper industry has a rotating, perforated surface (2) and a stationary suction box (3). The box (3) touches the inner plane of the roll surface (2) by means of sealing strips (4,5), which define at least one suction zone. The sealing strip (5) on the discharge side and an additional sealing strip (6) define a noise damping chamber (7), which communicates with the environment of the suction roll via at least one connecting line (8).

Description

  • The invention relates to a suction roll with the features specified in the preamble of claim 1. Suction rolls are preferably used in paper making machines, in particular to support the dewatering of the still wet paper or cardboard web. A problem that has been recurring for decades is the unpleasant noise generated by such suction rolls. Numerous measures for reducing noise on suction rolls are described, for example, in the magazine TAPPI, December 1956 vol. 39, No. 12, pages 851 to 857.
  • Furthermore, it is known from US Pat. No. 2,857,823 to provide a noise damping chamber along the outlet side of the stationary suction box. The interior of this noise damping chamber is connected in the known suction roller via relatively fine openings on the one hand to the inner surface of the roller shell and on the other hand to the rest of the interior of the suction roller.
  • The known measures for noise reduction on suction rolls may be more or less effective at not too high working speeds. However, the results in modern papermaking machines, whose working speed is between 1000 and 2000 m / min, are no longer sufficient. In other words, it happens that suction rolls develop an unpleasant noise in spite of conventional noise reduction devices with increasing working speed.
  • The invention is therefore based on the object of further developing the known suction rolls in such a way that a clearly perceptible noise reduction can also be achieved when operating at extremely high working speeds.
  • This object is achieved by a combination of the features specified in claim 1.
  • The result can be further improved by additional features specified in the subclaims.
  • In the accompanying drawing, FIG. 1 shows a partial cross section through a suction roller and FIG. 2 shows a simplified diagram of the lines which are connected to the noise damping chamber.
  • In FIG. 1, one can see from a suction roll 1 part of a circumferential roll shell 2 which is provided with continuous perforations 10. The direction of rotation is indicated by an arrow P. A paper web 9 is shown schematically at 9, which runs together with a screen or felt belt over the rotating suction roll.
  • Inside the suction roll 1 there is a stationary suction box 3 which touches the inner surface of the roll shell 2 by means of sealing strips 4 and 5. These sealing strips limit a suction zone. There may be another suction zone in the direction of circulation before this suction zone. A noise damping chamber 7 is arranged behind the suction zone delimited by the sealing strips 4 and 5. This is limited by the sealing strip 5 on the outlet side and by an additional sealing strip 6 spaced from it.
  • In Figure 2, the outline of the suction roller 1 is indicated schematically by dash-dotted lines, likewise the noise damping chamber 7 with solid lines. A connecting line 8, which extends essentially through the entire length of the suction roller, is connected on the one hand to the noise damping chamber 7 via a plurality of transverse lines 8a ; on the other hand, the connecting line 8 ends, for example, at a controllable snifting valve 11. This sniffing valve 11 can be opened more or less if it is shown that a negative pressure is created in the noise damping chamber and if the sniffing of air reduces the noise caused by the suction roll 1 becomes.
  • Alternatively, one can connect the connecting line 8 via one of the controllable valves 16, 17 or 18 either to a suction fan 12 or to an air pump 13 or to a water pump 14. From these elements, you select the one that causes the best possible noise reduction on the suction roll 1.
  • Depending on the level of the working speed or the level of the vacuum required in the suction box 3 (or depending on other parameters), only one of the elements snifting valve 11, suction blower 12, air pump 13 and water pump 14 can be provided.
  • A pressure measuring device 15 can be provided to observe the pressure or negative pressure prevailing in the noise damping chamber 7.

Claims (7)

  1. Suction roller (1) with a rotatable, perforated roller shell (2) and with a stationary suction box (3) arranged therein, furthermore with the following features, seen in a cross section through the suction roller:
    a) the suction box (3) touches the inner surface of the roll shell (2) by means of sealing strips (4, 5) which delimit at least one suction zone;
    b) the drain-side sealing strip (5) and an additional sealing strip (6), which is spaced from it in the circumferential direction, delimit a noise damping chamber (7);
    c) characterized in that the noise damping chamber (7) communicates with the surroundings of the suction roll via at least one connecting line (8).
  2. Suction roll according to claim 1, characterized in that the connecting line (8) has a controllable snifting valve (11).
  3. Suction roll according to claim 1, characterized in that the connecting line (8) is connected to a suction fan (12).
  4. Suction roll according to claim 1, characterized in that the connecting line (8) is connected to the pressure side of an air pump (13) or.
  5. Suction roll according to claim 1, characterized in that the connecting line (8) is connected to the pressure side of a water pump (14).
  6. Suction roll according to Claim 1, characterized in that the connecting line (8) can be connected either to a snifting valve (11) or to a suction fan (12) or to an air pump (13) or to a water pump (14).
  7. Suction roll according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that a pressure measuring device (15) is connected to the noise damping chamber (7).
