Definitions
- the present invention relates to a method of manufacturing a planter by covering a container, as well as the pot-holder thus obtained, intended more particularly for flowerpots or plants.
- the first category of planters are watertight containers or not, depending on the material of which they are made, intended to contain and protect the flower pot. Their major drawback is their price, which add to the price of the plant purchased, and their size, which discourages the horticulturalist from offering them for sale at the same time as plants.
- the second category planters in pleated sheet, or tightened around the pot, are only used for aesthetic purposes, to hide the periphery of the flower pot. They are cheap, but fragile and often do not protect the bottom of the pot, often moist and earthy.
- the object of the present invention is to remedy the drawbacks of these two categories of plant pots, by offering good plant pots market, aesthetic and waterproof.
- the plant pot according to the invention is characterized in that it comprises a container covered with an external covering, the periphery of which is folded inwards and held by an internal fastening means as defined in claims 12 to 15.
- the present invention also relates to the method for manufacturing these plant pots; a simple process that can be implemented on the plant potting site or the place of their marketing. It consists in covering a container with a flexible material, which can be for example a fabric, a sheet of paper or plastic, etc ... This covering of dimension larger than the external surface of this first container, is extended above a footprint, opening slightly larger than this container, then the container is directed towards the inside of the impression so as to compress and jam the covering between the outer wall of the container and the inner wall of the imprint, constituting an intermediate assembly (A).
- a container with a flexible material which can be for example a fabric, a sheet of paper or plastic, etc ...
- This covering of dimension larger than the external surface of this first container is extended above a footprint, opening slightly larger than this container, then the container is directed towards the inside of the impression so as to compress and jam the covering between the outer wall of the container and the inner wall of the imprint, constituting an intermediate assembly (A).
- the manufacturing process is characterized in that the covering at least partly protrudes from this assembly (A) and is folded towards the interior of the first container then kept pressed against its wall inside by an internal fixing means, the plant pot made up by the first container, the covering and said means then being separated of the imprint, revealing the covering.
- This means of attachment internal has the advantage of being practically invisible from the outside of the planter, especially when it contains a flower pot.
- said means is a second container, slightly smaller in size and opening than first container, which fits into it compressing and wedging the cover flap between the two containers.
- This second container can be either of the same shape as the first (nesting containers), either of different shape, of smaller size, but opening (upper part) close to that of the first container.
- said means is a diameter collar slightly smaller than the opening diameter of the first container which compresses and wedges the cover flap against the inner wall of the container.
- the method according to the invention is not only limited to these two specific means but includes any means to tackle the flap of the covering against the interior wall of the first container.
- the part upper or the entire outer wall of said means is pre-glued before its introduction into the first container. This gives the whole an additional rigidity and solidity.
- the first container is made of thermoplastic material and the internal fixing means is a weld.
- the second container or the collar is then also in plastic material and is welded to the first container by a process welding (high frequency, ultrasound, ... etc) at least an area where these two elements are in contact (bottom, side walls ...) or even in the area of the trim flap. If the skin is itself based on a plastic material (for example polyester ...) the presence a second container or an internal collar is not necessary, the flap can advantageously be maintained by direct welding on the upper internal face of the container to be dressed.
- the ends a handle are inserted between the flap of the covering and the inner container (or the collar) before the introduction of the latter in the first container.
- This handle can also have been previously attached to the inner container or the collar.
- the handle is for example made up of a stiffened colored lace by a rigid inner core (cotton fluff, metallic thread, etc.) or made of any material or combination of materials, at the same time.
- the method of manufacturing a planter also includes, in a third variant according to the invention, glue as the only means of fixing: the internal upper part of the container is pre-glued. The second container or the collar is then removed after internal bonding of the cover flap against the inner wall of the container.
- the first step of the method according to the invention consists in extending the covering above a footprint, opening dimensions slightly larger than the first container (a few millimeters, depending on the thickness of the covering).
- This imprint can be a container slightly larger than the first container, or a single hole in a flat surface, or a ring, or a diaphragm (adjustable diameter opening) in the open position, closing after the introduction of the first container, so as to guide the periphery of the inward covering of the latter.
- diaphragm here is meant any opening with adjustable diameter, such as a device with, for example, a spring blade or jaws which close.
- the method according to the invention applies to containers of any nature, shapes and dimensions.
- Containers can be circular, oval, square, rectangular, hexagonal, etc ... and preferably inexpensive material and which can be, for example, weldable by ultrasound or high frequency, such as polyethylene, polypropylene, chlorinated polyvinyl (PVC).
- the second container will advantageously made of polypropylene, for reasons of compatibility with adhesives usually commercially available. It is preferable that the second container is slightly smaller than the first container container, so as not to protrude above the covering, once the flowerpot made.
- at least one of the containers, preferably the second that is to say the one who will support the flower pot, be waterproof, of in order to protect all dirt from earth and humidity.
- it is the first container which is preferably sealed.
- the second container can advantageously be pierced and the first sealed container, thus forming a pot holder with reserve possible water.
- the covering is in flexible material, that is to say in a material that can be folded.
- the variety of possible material allows consider fabrics, woven (printed cotton, ...) or non-woven (such as felt), plastic, silver, golden decorative paper, ..., thin plastic sheets or a combination of decorative flexible material and a transparent plastic film.
- the size of the covering must be greater than the surface total outer of the container to be dressed, so as to allow a flap from its periphery (in whole or in part) towards the interior of the first container. Nor will it be too large to not clutter unnecessarily inside the container or not allowing the ascent humidity in cases where either a second container is not used, or the second container is pierced.
- the advantage of the process of the present invention lies in its simplicity and therefore its speed of execution, allowing manufacturing manual plant pots. Automation of different operations of this process can also be envisaged.
- the present invention also relates to any plant pot obtained by the method described above, characterized in that it comprises either two containers of identical shape (nesting) or different, one container and a necklace, nested one inside the other and wedging between them the periphery of a covering whose central part covers the outer surface of the outer container and possibly at least one handle, a container covered with a covering whose periphery folded back inside said container is kept fixed internally with glue, or even a container made of thermoplastic material covered with a plastic covering, the periphery of which is folded down and welded inside said container.
- This type of plant pot by the nature of the materials used, can be inexpensive, decorative and attractive. It constitutes a rigid assembly and compact.
- At least the inner container is waterproof and allows the pot to retain the humidity of the flower pot, together with the earth or the humus stain remover.
- the first waterproof container constituting a water reserve for plants arranged in the inner container which is pierced. These plant pots can thus be used as presentation packaging.
- the pot to be covered is the numbered pot (1).
- the covering (2) preferably circular in shape, extended over the footprint, too of circular section.
- This imprint can be either a second container (3a) of the same shape and dimensions as the pot to be covered (1) (figure 1a), or a circular opening (3b) made in a flat surface (13).
- this covering is wedged between the pot (1) and the imprint (3a or 3b), the possible folds being evenly distributed around the periphery of the pot, then the excess dressing (s) is folded inwards from the pot (1).
- the completed plant pot (set B) is shown in the figures 2 (plant pot with nesting pots) and 3 (plant pot with pot and necklace).
- the covering (2) appears after the removal of the imprint (3a or 3b).
- these plant pots have a (or des) handle (s) (6) (shown in dotted lines) whose ends are wedged between the flap (x) of the covering (2) and the container (4) (figure 2) or the collar (5) (figure 3).
- Table 1 gives, by way of nonlimiting examples, dimensions of plant pots made according to the present invention.
- the pots are of circular section, made of polypropylene.
- the piece of fabric is a printed cotton, also circular in shape.
- the inner pot is full bottom, that is to say waterproof.
- the planters made are intended to receive pots of flowers or plants.
- the method according to the invention can be realized with containers having a dimension of the base more important than the height: it is a variant using the "saucers" used for flower pots or the cups used for making floral arrangements.
- Table 2 presents two examples of the dressing of such "saucers", of round or hexagonal sections with pieces of circular fabric.
