Description

The invention relates to a self-expanding circuit breaker with a rotating arc housed inside a sealed envelope filled with insulating gas with high dielectric strength, in particular sulfur hexafluoride, said envelope containing a breaking chamber comprising:
  • an annular fixed arcing contact associated with an electromagnetic coil for rotating the arc, said cylindrical coil being arranged coaxially around the fixed arcing contact,
  • a hollow movable arcing contact cooperating with the fixed arcing contact so as to occupy a closed position and an open position,
  • and an exhaust channel disposed between the hollow movable arcing contact, and the casing of the circuit breaker.

Un tel disjoncteur est connu du document EP-A-0 240 397.Such a circuit breaker is known from document EP-A-0 240 397.

Arc extinction in self-expanding circuit breakers due to gas flow settling in the exhaust channel when the arc appears inside the breaking chamber. When cutting low currents, the increase moderate gas pressure may cause stagnation of hot gases in the vicinity of the fixed arcing contact. These hot gases remain stored in an area of the switching chamber, which is not traversed by the gas flow, and we observed phenomena of re-plating of the arc at zero current crossing.

The object of the invention is to improve the breaking of a self-expanding circuit breaker, regardless of the intensity of the current to be interrupted.

The circuit breaker according to the invention is characterized in that the breaking chamber contains in addition a cooling member arranged inside the coil to cool the gases hot in the vicinity of the fixed arcing contact, said cooling member being formed by a metal radiator subject to fixed arcing contact.

According to a preferred embodiment, the radiator is attached to the internal wall of a tubular sleeve separated from the coil by an insulating coating, said sleeve being made of magnetic material to strengthen the magnetic field in the area of arc formation. The presence of the radiator inside the coil limits any stagnation hot gas near the fixed arcing contact.

According to a characteristic of the invention, the radiator is equipped with a plurality of fins to optimize the heat exchange surface with the current supply socket at the coil.

This results in efficient cooling of the hot gases in the vicinity of the fixed arcing contact, which avoids any possibility of re-plating on zero current crossing.

Other advantages and characteristics will emerge more clearly from the description which follows. follow an embodiment of the invention, given by way of nonlimiting example, and shown in the accompanying drawing, illustrating a schematic view in axial section of the chamber of a self-expanding circuit breaker, which is shown in the open position on the left half-view, and in the closed position on the right half-view.

In the single figure, a breaking chamber 10 of an autoexpansion and arc circuit breaker rotating, is housed inside a sealed envelope (not shown) filled with gas insulator, with high dielectric strength, in particular sulfur hexafluoride.

The breaking chamber 10 contains a fixed annular arcing contact 12 mounted on the side internal of the front end face 14 of an electromagnetic coil 16. The face rear 18 of the cylindrical coil 16 is electrically connected to a socket 20 current supply conductor passing through sealing the upper wall 22 of the chamber 10. An insulating coating 24 is interposed radially between the side wall internal of the coil 16, and a tubular sleeve 26 of magnetic material, intended to strengthen the magnetic field in the arc formation area.

The fixed arcing contact 12 is formed by an annular track cooperating by abutment with a movable arcing contact 28 carried by the upper end of a tubular sleeve 30 in conductive material. A compression spring 32 is coaxially associated with the end lower of the sleeve 30, which is additionally equipped with a control lug 34 likely to be driven in translation by a sliding contact 36 subject to a tube 38 mobile driver.

The movable tube 38 passes through a sealing hole 40 formed in an insulator 42 for closing the chamber 10. The interior of the interrupting chamber 10 communicates with the volume of expansion of the casing of the circuit breaker through an exhaust channel 43 delimited by the hollow sleeve 30, so as to generate a gas flow in the event pressure increase caused by the rotation of the arc.

Inside the coil 16 is a cooling member, designated by the reference general 44, and intended to cool the hot gases in the vicinity of the arcing contact fixed 12. The cooling member 44, preferably metallic, is shaped as radiator 46 attached in thermal contact with the internal cylindrical wall of the sleeve 26, and bearing on the fixed arcing contact 12. The radiator 46 is advantageously equipped 48 annular fins to optimize the heat exchange surface with the gaseous medium surrounding.

The presence of the radiator 46 inside the coil 16 limits any stagnation of gas hot near the fixed arcing contact 12, i.e. in the first part of the arc formation which is not traversed by the gas flow. The arc is extinguished normally by the gas flow established through the tubular sleeve 30 of support of the movable arcing contact 28, constituting the second part of the formation zone arc.

The efficient cooling of the hot gases in the vicinity of the fixed arcing contact 12 contributes to improve the arc extinction and obtain excellent dielectric strength, avoiding any possibility of re-plating at zero current crossing.

Such an arrangement of the radiator 46 is particularly effective for breaking the currents low intensities.

The gas flow through the tubular movable arcing contact 28 can be improved by incorporating a nozzle with convergent / divergent inside the sleeve 30.

The radiator of the cooling member 44 inside the coil 16 may well heard in various forms, as defined in the revendications.
