Definitions
- the present invention relates to a ring and a process for establishing an electrical connection with a screen metal of an energy cable.
- the power cable is a power cable high voltage or a very high voltage power cable.
- the electrical connection resulting from the implementation of the process according to the invention is provided or for a setting earth of the metallic screen of the power cable, or else a connection between metal screens in the case of a junction established between two respective ends of cables.
- an energy cable 1 typically includes a central conductive element 10 covered by envelopes, sheath or screen, forming successive layers in view radial.
- the conductive element 10 is surrounded by a screen semiconductor 11.
- This semiconductor screen 11 is itself even covered by an inner insulating sheath 12 which is surrounded by a metallic screen 13, this metallic screen 13 being covered by and possibly attached to a sheath external insulation 14.
- other structures of power cable exist according to the prior art, which include semiconductor screen (s) and / or sheath (s) additional insulation (s). It should only be retained for understanding the invention that an energy cable further includes a metal screen, called a shield, 13 which is placed between two envelopes 12 and 14 respectively interior and exterior.
- the request for European patent EP-A-0 549 942 provides for the use of a metal plate which is arched to take shape a cylindrical ring open longitudinally.
- the figure 2 shows such a ring 2 according to the prior art.
- a connecting element 21 intended to support the connection with a box earthing or other connection element in the case of a junction between two respective ends of two cables.
- This connection element 21 can take the shape of a leg, as shown in the figure 2, but can also consist of a screw or even a braid of conductive tape.
- the arched plate, or ring, 20 may have a smooth outer surface, but has preferably projecting pins 200 formed on at least one part of its outer surface, which gives it the appearance of a "cheese grater".
- Such a ring according to FIG. 2 is used from the as follows in the prior art. Incisions longitudinal are formed in the insulating sheath exterior 14 so as to favor the introduction of the ring between the inner casing 12 and the metal screen driver 13. This operation is facilitated by the fact that the metal screen 13 is fixed, typically by gluing, to the outer casing, or insulating sheath 14.
- the arched plate has protruding pins formed on at least part of its outer surface, these protruding pins penetrate superficially in the metallic screen to guarantee a good fixing of the plate 2 between the insulating envelope interior 12 and the metal screen 13.
- the plate 2 having conductive properties, then constitutes a electrical connection element between the metal screen 13 and a given connection point, through the element of connection 21.
- said ring open lengthwise is as such adaptable the expansion phenomena of the cable in service and particular of the material of the inner envelope.
- this ring is usually kept tight in place and then leads to significant efforts between it and the inner casing, especially when the cable is at very high tension.
- the present invention aims to remedy the drawbacks of the aforementioned connecting device, in particular to the problems due to the phenomena of expansion of the inner envelope of the cable.
- a connecting device electric including an energy cable and a ring establishing said connection with a metal screen of said cable, said screen being situated between an envelope inner insulation and an outer insulating envelope of said cable, said ring being metallic, disposed between said inner envelope and said screen, along a portion of said cable, and associated with clamping means and comprising a connecting element fixed on it, characterized in that said ring is formed of a section of tube closed on itself and substantially non-deformable with a diameter inside significantly greater than the outside diameter of said inner envelope, said inner diameter of said tube section being provided sufficient to allow a expansion of said cable without generating mechanical forces high between said cable and said ring.
- the ring has protruding pins which are formed on at least part of the surface of said tube section.
- the ring can be associated with the minus a hose clamp.
- a method for establishing a electrical connection with a metal screen arranged between a outer shell and an inner shell forming part an energy cable comprising the step of introducing a ring between the inner casing and the metal screen, along a first portion of said cable, is characterized in that said ring is as defined above and in what said introductory step is preceded by a step of machining said outer casing, along a second portion of said cable which includes said first portion and extends substantially beyond this first portion, so as to reduce the thickness of said outer envelope without making it void, in part outer shell with reduced thickness.
- a ring 3 differs from the prior art in that that it is in the form of a closed tube section 30.
- a this section of tube 30 is fixed, for example by welding, a connecting element 21 intended to serve as a support for the connection with a grounding box or with a other connection element in the case of a junction between two respective ends of two cables.
- This connection element 21 can take the form of a lug but it can also consist of a screw or even a braid of conductive tape.
- Ring 3 can have a smooth outer surface, but preferably has 200 protruding pins formed on at least part of its outer surface, which gives it the appearance of a "grater cheese”.
- the cable is first stripped at its end of the screens metallic 13 and outer insulating jacket 14, so to let appear a segment S of insulating envelope interior 12 stripped.
- segment S of the stripped inner envelope 12 constitutes a end of the first portion p of the cable 1 along which the ring is to be introduced between the envelope 12 and screen 13.
- This machining has the result of reducing the thickness of the outer insulating envelope 14 without making it zero, in a portion of outer casing with reduced thickness. Extraction of material from the outer insulating envelope 14 along the second portion P of the cable 1 is represented by the reference 50 in FIG. 4.
- this single machining operation is implemented work prior to the introduction of the tube section 30 of the ring 3 between the inner insulating envelope 12 and metal screen 13. Machining, reducing the thickness of the outer insulating envelope 14, allows the introduction of ring 3. It should be noted that the thickness of the envelope outer insulator 14 along the cable portion P after the machining operation is not zero so that guarantee good electrical protection of the screen metallic 13.
- the machining operation is planned to incise longitudinally, along the length of cable 1, the part outer shell with reduced thickness and the screen cylindrical metal which is arranged below, for form tabs 60, 61 and 62.
- Incisions 40 and 41 are designated by the references 40 and 41 in the part of Figure 3 which is located on the left of the ring 2 and which is shown in cross section.
- the section of tube 30 forming part of the ring 3 is introduced under the tabs thus formed, along the first portion denoted p of cable 1.
- the tabs formed by incision are tightened on the outer surface of the tube section 30 of the ring 3.
- the part of the tube section 30 of the ring 3 which is introduced under the tabs formed by incision includes pins 200 projections which are formed on its surface.
- the section of tube 30 of ring 3 has an inside diameter significantly greater than the outside diameter of the envelope interior 12, leaving a space between the surface inner of the ring and the outer surface of the inner envelope. This gap, or space, between the outer diameter of the inner casing 12 and the inside diameter of the tube section 30 of the ring 3 is noted ⁇ .
- This difference in diameter is intended to allow a cable 1 expansion without generating mechanical forces high between cable 1 and ring 3. Such an expansion results from high heating of cable 1 which originates a large electric current carried in the cable 1.
- the maintenance of a small thickness of the outer insulating envelope 14 for each of the tabs 60, 61, 62, along the portion of cable P allows bending without breaking of each metal screen portion forming part of one respective of these tabs, when the tube section 30 of ring 3 is inserted between the insulating jacket interior 12 and the metal screen 13.
- the connecting element 21 of the ring although shown in the form of a tab in Figure 3, can also consist for example of a screw or in a braid of conductive tape.
