- the leading edge of the label 6 is taken up by the container and this may be accomplished using water or any non-chemical means such as static electricity or the like.
- the label 6 is then encouraged to wrap around said container 3 by the combined rotation of the turret 1, container 3 and vacuum drum 4.
- the trailing edge of the label 6 is then secured or otherwise attached to the leading edge of the label through the use of the thermally-activated adhesive material inherent in the label 6.
- the adhesive material is, in fact, thermally-activated by heating elements 9.
- the heating elements 9 are housed within the vacuum drum 4.
- the invention is not limited to such an embodiment and the heating elements 9 may, for example, alternatively be in the form of heat lamps or the like.
- a heat source is provided which causes the thermally-activated adhesive material located at least at the leading or trailing edge of the label to be activated. It is realised, however, that the heat of the vacuum drum or other apparatus previously included in roll-fed labelling apparatus may be cleverly employed to provide thermal activation means.
- the invention described hereinbefore provides a means of applying a label to a container such that the label is in the form of a rolled-on sleeve with minimal or no bonding required between the bottle and the label.
- This has the advantage of allowing the label to be cut from the bottle with the bottle thereafter being recycled in an undamaged state and, secondly, eliminating or reducing the extent of glue consumables or application equipment being required. This latter aspect of course reduces the capital and running costs of the apparatus required to perform this process of production.

Claims (7)
- Appareil pour appliquer une étiquette (6) à un récipient (3), un matériau pré-imprimé thermo-adhésif étant prévu sur l'étiquette, l'appareil comprenant un moyen de chauffage (9) adapté pour provoquer le thermo-soudage d'un bord de tête de l'étiquette à un bord arrière de l'étiquette, une fois l'étiquette enroulée autour du récipient (3); caractérisé en ce que : le bord de tête de l'étiquette est maintenu en contact avec le récipient (3) pendant ledit enroulement par un moyen non chimique excluant toute colle ou tout adhésif, ou par de l'eau.
- Appareil selon la revendication 1, dans lequel ledit moyen non chimique est de l'électricité statique.
- Appareil selon l'une quelconque des revendications précédentes, dans lequel le moyen de chauffage comprend des éléments électriques (9).
- Appareil selon la revendication 3, comprenant un tambour sous vide (4), et selon lequel lesdits éléments électriques (9) sont logés dans ledit tambour (4).
- Appareil selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 et 2, dans lequel le moyen de chauffage (9) comprend une lampe à rayonnement infrarouge positionnée près de l'emplacement où le bord de tête doit être thermosoudé au bord arrière de l'étiquette (6).
- Appareil selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 et 2, selon lequel le moyen de chauffage (9) utilise la chaleur dérivée des pertes par friction des pièces mobiles de l'appareil.
- Procédé pour appliquer une étiquette (6) à partir d'une bande d'étiquettes (8) à un récipient (3), la bande d'étiquettes (8) comprenant de multiples étiquettes (6), chaque étiquette (6) possédant un bord de tête et un bord arrière et un matériau thermo-adhésif pré-imprimé étant prévu sur cette dernière, le procédé consistant à :a. séparer l'étiquette (6) de la bande d'étiquettes (8) ;b. amener l'étiquette (6) à s'enrouler autour du récipient (3), le bord de tête de l'étiquette étant maintenu en contact avec le récipient (3) pendant ledit enroulement par des moyens non chimiques excluant toute colle ou tout adhésif, ou par de l'eau ;c. appliquer de la chaleur pour activer thermiquement le matériau adhésif de manière à assembler le bord de tête au bord arrière de l'étiquette (6) et former ainsi un manchon autour du récipient (3).
