Abstract

PCT No. PCT/EP94/02249 Sec. 371 Date Feb. 27, 1996 Sec. 102(e) Date Feb. 27, 1996 PCT Filed Jul. 8, 1994 PCT Pub. No. WO95/06149 PCT Pub. Date Mar. 2, 1995The invention pertains to an elastic band, in particular for upholstery on the backrests of chairs, etc. The band has rubber threads (2, 2a, 2b) running in its longitudinal direction. On both sides of the rubber threads, running transverse to them, are from and back woof threads (4, 6) made of inelastic textile material. The band is designed for crochet production. It has weave threads made of inelastic material, with each rubber thread (2, 2a, 2b) having two weave threads (7, 8) one of which, as stationary weave thread (7), always loops around the same rubber thread as well as the front and back woof threads (4, 6). The other, the jump weave thread (8) makes loops around a first rubber thread (2a) and around a small, odd number of successive from and back woof threads (4, 6). It then jumps to a neighboring second rubber thread (2) and with it makes an equal number of successive front and back woof-thread loops. It then jumps back to the first rubber thread (2a), etc.

Description

The invention relates to a crocheted elastic band with the features mentioned in the preamble of claim 1. The invention is particularly applicable to an upholstery band, as is required for the backrests of chairs, armchairs or couches.

From the documents US-A-4 248 064 and GB-A-967 570 crocheted elastic bands with the features mentioned in the preamble of claim 1 are already known. There, a stationary binding thread is provided for each rubber thread, which knits around this rubber thread and the front and rear weft threads.

In the case of upholstery, the straps are attached to wooden frames with staplers. Usually their threads are also cut. The tapes are then drawn up from these points when used.

Bei herkömmlichen Polsterbändern, die relativ rauh sind, entsteht hierbei ein störendes Geräusch.the upholstery straps cross each other within the upholstery frame. When in use, they expand and shift against each other. With conventional upholstery tapes, which are relatively rough, there is an annoying noise.

The present invention is intended to create an elastic band which also fulfills the following conditions:
  • 1. It should be able to be produced in a known manner, starting from uncovered rubber threads, on a single machine, namely a crochet machine.
  • 2. It should be secured against being pulled open, even where the tape has been damaged.
  • 3. It should have a smoother surface than conventional tapes and therefore should not produce any noise when used as an upholstery tape.
  • 4. It should be thinner than a conventional elastic band with the same load capacity.

These advantages are achieved by a crocheted elastic band according to claim 1.

An embodiment with further features of the invention is described below with reference to the drawings.
Figure 1
is a highly schematic representation of a section of a crocheted elastic band according to the invention.
Figure 1a
is a schematic cross section of the tape of Figure 1, parallel to the wefts.
Figure 2
shows a side view of the head end of a conventional point needle.
Figure 3
shows in side view the head end of a point needle, which is suitable for the production of a crocheted elastic band according to the invention.

Figure 1 shows, highly schematized, a small section of a crocheted elastic band according to the invention. The band has rubber threads 2, 2a, 2b, which are threads of rubber or synthetic rubber, generally threads of high elasticity. For this purpose, the band has transverse weft threads, namely front weft threads 4 and rear weft threads 6. The designations "front" and "rear" correspond to the illustration in FIG. 1. These weft threads consist of relatively inelastic textile material. The rubber threads 2, 2a, 2b are not knitted or covered in any other way, thereby saving an operation in this regard.

Figure 1 also shows that each of the rubber threads 2, 2a, 2b together with the front and rear weft threads 4, 6 is knitted by one of the binding threads 7. Since these binding threads 7 form stitches along only a single rubber thread, they are therefore referred to here as "stationary" binding threads.

Also shown are binding threads 8, 8a, 8c, which change from one rubber thread to the other and are therefore referred to here as "jumping" binding threads. These jumping binding threads mesh on the one hand the rubber threads 2, 2a, 2b, on the other hand the rear weft threads 6, but not the front weft threads 4. Along the rubber thread 2a, the jumping binding thread 8 (above in FIG. 1) meshes three successive rear weft threads 6 and the rubber thread 2. Then he jumps to the adjacent rubber thread 2 to the left, knits it at three successive crossing points, each with only the rear weft thread 6. Then he jumps back to the original rubber thread 2a, knits it at three further crossing points in the manner described above and jumps back to the same neighboring rubber thread 2, etc.

In the same way, a jumping binding thread 8a is guided to the right of the binding thread 8. On the left in FIG. 1, another jumping binding thread 8c can be seen, which changes over from a rubber thread no longer shown on the left. The same applies to the right side of Figure 1. These jumping binding threads are used over the entire width of the band.

Instead of meshing around three consecutive crossing points, as shown in FIG. 1, the jumping binding threads can each strap another odd number of consecutive crossing points, e.g. B. three to nine.

Since the binding threads 8, 8a, 8c are guided below the front weft threads 4, they are protected against wear in the finished woven band by these weft threads.

The stationary binding threads 7 mesh around both weft threads 4, 6 and also the jumping binding threads 8, 8a, 8c and above all protect the jumping binding threads in front and back against chafing.

A lower roughness of the finished strip results from the meshing system shown.

Figure 2 shows the head of a conventional patent needle for crochet machines. Figure 3 shows the head end of a patent needle 10 which is suitable for the production of an elastic band according to the invention. The tip height h of the tip 12 is made larger here by bulging than with normal patent needles. This is useful because the jumping binding threads jump over two needles. This leads them to the patent needles at an angle, which would make it difficult or impossible to insert them into normal needle heads.
