Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a game ball, in particular a golf ball, but also a use for other ball games with preferably small ball diameters, such as e.g. Tennis, table tennis or ping pong come into question. Such balls must meet high requirements in terms of material and workmanship and are therefore correspondingly expensive. For practice purposes, a simpler and therefore also cheaper version would suffice in many cases. For example, the golf ball does not necessarily have to have the precisely prescribed weight for the practice of accuracy in golf. If golf exercises are not carried out in open terrain, the compliant balls can even pose a danger to the environment. Play balls that are used for practice purposes are also subject to rapid wear or damage and must be disposed of. With conventional balls made of rubber, plastic, felt and the like, there is also an ecological problem in addition to the high costs.
It is therefore an object of the invention to provide a game ball which can be produced in a simple and inexpensive manner and which, moreover, can be disposed of easily and without problems after use. The game ball should in particular also be able to be used as an exercise ball, whereas other properties, such as e.g. lower weight, different elasticity, etc. be aimed for.
This object is achieved with a game ball which has the features in
Playballs based on gelatin as a raw material are non-toxic and biodegradable. Even lost balls do not pollute the environment, as they are broken down over time. The property of the game ball, in particular its hardness, can be influenced by adding another biopolymer of up to 20 percent by weight. Very good results can be achieved by adding starch. The selected wall thickness of the game ball also plays an important role. Capsules and other hollow bodies made of gelatin have the property that they harden and shrink after processing. The degree of shrinkage depends on the volume of material processed. A game ball with a larger wall thickness will therefore shrink more than with a smaller wall thickness. This material behavior can be used to influence the elasticity of the game ball. Since the hollow body is practically gas-tight, a strong shrinkage leads to a compression of the inner volume and thus to a greater hardness.
The surface of the game ball can be structured in order to achieve a certain rolling behavior. However, the surface can also be covered with a hydrophobic layer in order to achieve increased resistance to moisture.
The hollow body can be filled with air, as is the case with known game balls is the case. The known processing methods for gelatin hollow bodies also allow the hollow body to be filled with a liquid or even with a solid. For example, it would be conceivable to achieve exactly the same weight for an exercise ball made of gelatin with an appropriate filling as for a rubber ball that complies with the rules. The stability can also be increased with a suitable filling, the filling preferably also consisting of a biodegradable substance.
In order to optimally design the game ball according to the invention also from an aesthetic point of view, the hollow body could finally be colored through with a dye. Food dyes that are non-toxic are particularly suitable.
The only illustration shows a partially broken golf ball consisting of the
