Definitions
- the present invention relates to equipment for head protection of the type comprising a respiratory mask fitted with a harness and connectable to a source of breathing gas allowing to put the mask in overpressure compared to the atmosphere and an eye protection screen against flue gas, fitted with a peripheral seal the face and on the mask, the mask and the screen being separable and distinct from each other.
- the respiratory mask fitted with a regulator, protects the wearer of the mask against hypoxia and the entry of toxic smoke or gas into the respiratory tract.
- the harness allows to apply the mask on the face with sufficient pressure to seal.
- the protective screen protects the eyes against smoke from irritating gases when in place.
- the invention finds a particularly application important, although not exclusive, in aeronautics.
- the mask is then in particular provided to provide protection against hypoxia in the event of depressurization at an altitude high, which requires that it be equipped with a regulator at the request for overpressure supply as a function of altitude and that the harness allows then to apply the mask with sufficient force to prevent the appearance of leaks reducing the overpressure in the mask.
- the harness may consist of a strap exerting an adjustable application force, either automatically (for example by changing a pressure internal when the straps are stretched by swelling) either manually (for example, when the harness includes, in addition to pneumatically extendable straps, straps in fabric, loose in mask storage position and manually squeezable).
- the present invention aims in particular to provide a head protection equipment responding better than those previously known to the requirements of practice, in particular in that it allows or convenient use of the mask alone and a quick set up of the screen when needed or a use of the mounted screen regulator mask and removal of the screen part if the user so wishes.
- the invention notably proposes equipment of the type defined above, characterized in that it comprises means for locking the screen on the mask, which can be disarmed manually and using the mask to apply the seal to the face.
- opening means automatically breathable gas from the inside mask towards the inside of the screen when setting place and locking of the latter.
- Overpressure by relation to the atmosphere (which will always be provided for in the mask, even at normal atmospheric pressure to prevent these same fumes and gases do not reach the respiratory tract) will cause the passage of respiratory gas inside the screen and a smoke and gas evacuation sweep imprisoned.
- the harness can be quick to set up, adaptable on any head or helmet size (such as, for example, those described in document EP-A-0288391 and the application FR n ° 9311342 which corresponds to EP-A-0 645 164); it can also consist of straps with tightening loops, which will be the case in particular of use does not require rapid installation.
- the protective equipment shown schematically in Figures 1 and 2 includes a mask and a harness having a known general constitution.
- the mask includes an oro-nasal face cover 10 attached to a demand regulator 12 and a rigid connection block 14.
- the block 14 is integral with a shell 16 covering the front of the face cover.
- the connection block 14 is intended to be connected to a source of pressurized breathing gas (oxygen under pressure in general) by a flexible tube 15.
- the harness shown as an example has two straps 18, each consisting of an internal tube made of material elastic contained in an inextensible sheath limiting the elongation of the tube and connected to block 14.
- the sheaths have a length such that they allow the passage of harness over heads of all sizes, when two tubes are inflated by pressing on levers 20.
- the tubes have elasticity which ensures a tightening of the head sufficient to use respiratory equipment with pressurized gas supply.
- the screen 22 includes a transparent window 24 having optical quality, whose edges are trapped in a seal 26 and which is extended by a block 28 for attachment to the mask shell.
- the upper part of the seal 26, intended to be applied to the forehead and temples, may have a classical constitution.
- the lower part of the seal which must be applied to the areas of the face and the shell having concave parts, is advantageously constituted in the form of a strip of foam material, ensuring a large contact surface. When in use, this lower part is housed under the upper strap 18. To facilitate the fitting of the mask, the strap can be moved away from the face, in the near area of its connection with the shell, for example in the guiding by a section of rigid tube over a few centimeters.
- the lower part of the seal has a wedge shape so as to lift the upper strap when placing the screen on the mask already worn by the user.
- the screen 22 and the mask are advantageously provided with way to organize breathing gas circulation in the screen when it is in place. It is in particular possible to admit gas automatically or not respiratory from inside the mask inwards of the screen, by means which are closed when the screen is not in place. Breathing gas can escape by leakage between the seal and the skin. Slots can also be provided in the upper part of the joint, so as to guide the sweeping air.
- FIG. 2 shows, by way of example, means breathing gas intake including a valve which can be placed part on the edge of the shell 16 of the mask and part on the gasket 10.
- This valve includes a seat 30, through which holes are placed, placed in the face cover, and a shutter lever 32 rotating on an axis 34 belonging to the shell. The seal is ensured by the seal 31.
- a spring 36 pushes the lever 32 towards the seat 30.
- the block 28 belonging to the screen has a pallet 38 which, when the screen is in place, presses one of the ends of lever 32 so as to lift the other end from seat 30 and open communication with the interior of the screen. Other constitutions would obviously be possible.
- the fixing block 28 is provided to authorize a setting in place quickly on the shell 16 of the mask.
- the means of fixation can have very diverse constitutions and only a few embodiments will be given as example.
- the fixing block belonging to the screen has a slide 40 with balls 42 pushed by a spring towards a position projecting.
- the slide is designed to engage in a slide 44 secured to the shell 16.
- Housing 46 are provided in the slide to receive the balls and automatically lock the slide 40.
- Two pushers 48 are placed on either side of the slide for push back the balls and manually unlock the screen when it is unnecessary and can be removed.
- the slide is fixed to the screen and the slide to the shell.
- a soft iron bar 50 is incorporated in the block of fixing 28.
- This bar is designed to engage in a slide 52 secured to the shell 16 and to be retained therein by an electromagnetic field created by drowned coils 54 in the slide, when these coils are supplied.
- a pallet 56 placed so as to be actuated by the bar 50 at the end of introduction of this last, are provided to power the coils.
- Unlocking can be performed by manual action on a switch, using a push button 58 similar to pushers 48 of FIG. 4.
- the mask is locked manually after fitting.
- the fixing block integral with the screen also has a slide 60, intended to engage in a slide 62 secured to the shell 16.
- Two locks 64 ordered manually, allow to lock the slide, when fully engaged, bringing them together by action of the wearer's fingers. Unlocking can then be obtained using a button 66, trapped in the slide 60, that the driving of the latches 64 pushes back towards the protruding position shown in Figure 7.
- the user unlock the screen by pressing button 66, which acts on inclined sides of the latches 64, draws them aside one of the other and chases them from the slide.
- the latches 64 are biased towards each other by springs.
- the fixing block comprises, in the case illustrated in Figure 9, a guide 68 intended to engage in a base 70 which can be in one piece with the slide belonging to the mask attachment means.
- This guide is articulated the back of a lever 72.
- a spring 74 is interposed between the other end of the lever and the guide 68.
- the screen will not have a clean harness and the fixing block 28 will be provided so as to apply the seal seal 26 with sufficient force, despite the screen mounting cantilevered from the mask.
- the fixing block 28 will be provided so as to apply the seal seal 26 with sufficient force, despite the screen mounting cantilevered from the mask.
- the equipment In an airplane, the equipment is generally stored in a box within reach of the pilot. Outside the periods of use, the mask will be stored with the screen locked on him, so that in an emergency the pilot can place the mask-screen assembly on the face, having oxygen respiratory in places provided for by the regulations in force and be protected against fumes. If the circumstances then do not require the port of the screen, the pilot can remove it.
- the storage box is advantageously provided so that the mask cannot be stored again only when the screen is fixed on it.
