Description

The invention relates to a connector with a housing made of insulating material, which has an underside for the passage of plug pins and an open end face between the underside and an upper side opposite the underside, the upper side being provided with a recess open to the end face, and with a Contact carrier which can be accommodated in the housing and has contact elements which are arranged between the bottom and top sides and which form plug-in elements directed towards the bottom side and can be connected to the top side with lines.

From DE-GM 91 03 107 a connector is known in which the line outlet channel is formed by a guide element protruding in an extension of the upper side on the open end face of the housing and an underlying clamping bracket of the closure plate extending in the same direction. The outgoing lines are thus led out of the housing perpendicularly to the direction of insertion of the connector through the mentioned line outlet channel. The cable outlet therefore has a fixed angle of 90 ° to the direction of insertion. It is also known in such connectors to arrange the line outlet channel obliquely to the direction of insertion, so that the cable outlet has a fixed angle of z. B. has 45 ° to the direction of insertion.

Furthermore, EP 0 183 939 A2 discloses an electrical connector with a cover hood open at the front and the top, from which a bundle of conductors can be led out from two directions. For this purpose, two cover pieces with a connecting piece and a strain relief bracket are provided in the known connector, which, depending on the direction of exit of the conductor bundle, have predetermined separation points to the desired length brought and then placed on the open sides of the cover. In this known connector, the bundle of conductors can be led out of the cover hood either in a first direction, namely in alignment with the end face or in a second direction, namely in alignment with the top side.

However, since connectors should be usable for different installation conditions, a cable outlet with a fixed angle is not always advantageous.

The invention is therefore based on the object of designing a plug connector of the type mentioned at the outset with a line outlet which is largely variable in angle.

This object is achieved in a connector of the type mentioned according to the invention in that the open end of the housing is partially covered in its lower portion with a closure plate in such a way that an open line outlet channel through the recess on the top together with that of the closure plate uncovered upper area of the end face of the housing is formed, from which the lines can be led out.

In such a connector, there is no fixed line outlet channel protruding laterally from the housing of the connector, but the line outlet channel is formed by a recess on the upper side of the housing and thus displaced into the housing, that is to say shortened. Through the recess forming a partial opening between the closure plate and the upper side, the lines can be bent into different angles with a sufficiently large bending radius. This results in an angle of about 90 ° variable output z. B. from a horizontal position to about a vertical position upwards, ie in the direction of insertion. This is the cable outlet freely variable in a large angular range. In the case of a plug connector according to the invention, the line outlet can thereby be provided within the scope of the partial opening of the housing Possibilities can be adapted to the different installation conditions.

Connectors of the type mentioned are often designed to lock the housing with another connector with a locking bracket, which in its locking position prevents unauthorized operation e.g. is protected by a seal. For this purpose, the housing of the known plug connector is provided with eyelets which protrude on both side walls and are arranged in the region of the open end face and the line outlet channel and which cooperate with lateral eyelets of the locking bracket.

In an advantageous embodiment of a connector according to the invention, such a sealing option is achieved in that a hole is provided in at least one side wall of the housing and is arranged such that it is in the locking position of a locking bracket provided on the housing for locking with the housing of another connector with a in the hole provided for the locking bracket. The sealing eyelets are moved to the top of the connector housing and the locking bracket. In this way, the connector width can be reduced by approximately 5 mm compared to the known connectors.

Further advantageous embodiments of the subject matter of claim 1 are specified in the remaining subclaims.

The connector housing 1 consists of insulating material and has an underside 1a, an upper side 1b opposite the underside and a front open end 1c between the upper and lower sides. On this open end face of the housing 1, a contact carrier 16 can be inserted, which contains a number of contact elements. It can e.g. be a one or two-part socket strip. The contact elements form plug elements directed towards the underside, e.g. Contact sockets, into the connector pins of a counterpart, e.g. a pin header. At the other end, i.e. towards the top 1b, the contact elements are in a known manner, e.g. can be connected to the ends of the lines of a line bundle 2 shown in broken lines in FIG. 3 by means of an IDC connection. After this connection and the insertion of the contact carrier 16 into the housing 1, the initially open end face 1c is partially covered by a closure plate 3, the lines 2 in the region of the top side 1b and the end face 1c being led out of the housing in a line outlet channel 4. In the plugged-together state of the socket and pin header, their housings are locked together by means of a locking bracket 5, which e.g. on the connector housing 1, which serves here as a socket housing, is pivotably mounted and is secured in the locking position (FIG. 1, 2) by a resilient latching element 17 on the upper side 1b.

The line outlet channel 4 is here formed between the closure plate 3 and the upper side 1b of the housing 1, in that the upper side of the housing is provided with a recess 6 which is open towards the open end face 1c and whose width B between the side walls 7 and 8 of the housing is approximately the same width corresponds to the line bundle 2 and here extends from the rear side wall 7 to the front side wall 8, that is to say over the entire width of the upper side 1b, extends. The depth T of the recess 6 corresponds approximately to the thickness of the line bundle 2. The width B between the side walls 7, 8 is laterally in width B between the side walls raised by web-like extensions 9, 10 of the side walls and in depth T by one these extensions connecting, on the top 1b raised crossbar 11 limited. To the initially open end face 1c of the housing 1, the line outlet channel 4 is delimited by the closure plate 3, the height of which is approximately equal to 2/3 the height H of the end face 1c. The line outlet can thus take place at a variable angle of approximately 90 °, if necessary over the upper edge of the closure plate 3 on the one hand and over the crossbar 11 on the other hand even in a larger angular range. In addition, the line outlet channel is integrated into the housing in this embodiment, so that the outer dimensions of the housing 1 are thereby also reduced.

To seal the locking position of the locking bracket 5 when the socket and pin strip are plugged together, a hole 12 is provided in at least one side wall 8 of the housing 1 and arranged so that it coincides with a hole 13 provided in the locking position of the locking bracket 5. Here, the hole 12 is expediently arranged in an extension 14 of the web-like extension 10 of the front side wall 8 of the housing 1 that extends beyond the end of the recess 6, while the hole 13 is located in an upper corner region of the front bracket arm 15. Through these measures, the width of the housing 1 can be reduced by about 5 mm over the side walls 7,8 compared to the known connectors of this type.
