Definitions
- the invention relates to a handheld radio in accordance with the preamble of the first claim.
- Handheld radio devices are known, for example as a handheld device of a cordless telephone or as a mobile phone. In general, they have a rod-shaped antenna protruding from the housing, the length of which depends on the wavelength used. At today's high frequencies, the length can have shrunk to a few centimeters. Nevertheless, such an antenna is a vulnerable part of the radio. For the latter reason, telescopic antennas are known for small radio devices which can be inserted into the interior of the housing when not in use.
- a very small radio receiver is known from the document DE 32 14 449 A1, in which the arms or the two halves of a dipole antenna are closely connected to the circuit board of the receiver. In this way, the antenna, like the electronics, can be completely enclosed by the associated housing.
- slot antenna forms part of the housing wall and that the housing is either made of metal or is designed as an at least partially metallized plastic part.
- the slot antenna is arranged on an end face of the housing and is preferably designed as a double-l bent antenna which touches the end face and additionally two side surfaces of the housing.
- FIG. 1 shows a slot antenna 10 which is known per se. This consists primarily of a flat sheet metal part 11 or of a plate made of metal or another electrically highly conductive material, an elongated, generally rectangular slot 12 being removed in the middle.
- the length L of the slot 12 surrounded on all sides by sheet metal corresponds (in the simplest case) to approximately half the wavelength of the electromagnetic wave radiated by the antenna 10.
- the width B of the slot 12 is small compared to the length L. Further requirements are not necessary; however, sizes L and B as well as other factors such as the exact shape of the slot 12 the special properties of the respective antenna.
- the antenna 10 is supplied or decoupled via two connection points 13, 14, which are essentially opposite one another on the longitudinal edges of the slot 12.
- connection points 13, 14 are arranged approximately in the middle of the longitudinal edges (as shown in FIG. 1), the coupling or uncoupling takes place with relatively high resistance. If, on the other hand, the connection points have moved to the edge of the longitudinal edges, the coupling or decoupling takes place with significantly less high resistance.
- a slot antenna 10 can be folded or folded in a double-L-shaped manner, which results in better spatial radiation characteristics than with flat antennas.
- FIG. 2 shows a perspective view of the structure of the inner elements of a radio device to be carried in the hand, in particular the hand-held device of a cordless telephone.
- a radio device to be carried in the hand, in particular the hand-held device of a cordless telephone.
- all of the electronics can be accommodated on a single, rectangular printed circuit board 17, for example, equipped on both sides.
- On one end face 19 of the plate 17 is now a double L-shaped slot antenna 10 made of an electrically highly conductive, mechanically elastic metal sheet 11 (eg nickel silver).
- this sheet metal part 11 or the slot antenna 10 is shown again in an exploded view in FIG. 3.
- the slot width B of the antenna 10 corresponds approximately to the thickness of the printed circuit board 17.
- the slot 12 of the antenna 10 is with its central part 21 at a comparatively small distance, e.g. 1 mm, in the middle of the front edge 19, i.e. the thin end face of the circuit board 17 is arranged.
- the two legs 22, 23 of the sheet metal part 11 are laterally on the side edges 25, 26 of the circuit board 17 with a small distance.
- the antenna 10 is kept loose by the spring property of the sheet metal part 11.
- the antenna In order to support the spring properties and to maintain the aforementioned small distances between the antenna 10 and the circuit board edges 19, 25, 26, the antenna has continuous stiffening ribs 29, 30 in its central part 21 above and below the slot 12. Further, the middle part 21 is e.g. bent a kink 32 very slightly V-shaped out of its actual plane. The same effect results from a very flat, U-shaped arch of the middle part 21.
- One leg 22 of the sheet metal part 11 is significantly longer than the other leg 23.
- the slot 12 is located throughout the entire length of the middle part 21, to a substantial extent in the longer leg 22 and only to a very small extent in the shorter leg 23.
- connection points 13, 14 are located in the end region of the slot 12 in the longer leg 22. They are designed as spring contacts which are formed from (slot material) during the manufacture of the slot 12. In the assembled state of the printed circuit board 17 and slot antenna 10, they make contact with associated contacts on the printed circuit board 17. These contacts can either be arranged on the same side of the plate 17 or individually on the two sides of the plate 17.
- the circuit board 17 of a radio of the type described generally has a ground surface 18. This covers a substantial part of the plate surface, e.g. forms the ground surface 18 a separate layer of a multilayer plate 17.
- FIG. 4 shows a top view of the printed circuit board 17 with the ground surface 18 and the attached antenna 10. The edge region of the plate 17 is essentially in the region 20 adjacent to the slot antenna 10 Ground area 18 free. One of the contacts of the printed circuit board 17 is then located at the location of a remaining ground surface in the edge region mentioned and thus forms a ground point.
- the slot antenna 10 and the printed circuit board 17 are further matched in terms of size and mechanically to one another and to the housing of the radio which completely surrounds these parts and which is not shown. This means that the coordination is such that, in the assembled state, all of the inner parts are connected and held together in an electrically and mechanically stable manner.
- the printed circuit board 17 this means that it is fixed in the housing by associated holding elements.
- the antenna 10 that it is guided orthogonally and at the end to the printed circuit board 17 at several points by mechanical elements and is thus held in a stable position.
- the kink 32 and the stiffening ribs 29, 30 provide elastic, constant, well-defined distances between the antenna 10 and the dielectric materials of the housing and the plate 17.
- FIG. 5 shows the side view of the inner elements of a second radio device of the type discussed here.
- the electronics are distributed over two circuit boards 16, 17 arranged parallel to one another.
- the slot 12 of the antenna 10 is advantageously located centrally and parallel between the two plates 16, 17.
- the sheet metal part 11 or the antenna 10 is leaned closely against the end edges 19 of the two plates 16, 17.
- the structure is generally such that the surfaces of the antenna 10 are arranged essentially orthogonally to the surfaces of the one or two printed circuit board (s) 16, 17.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a handheld radio in accordance with the preamble of the first claim.
Handheld radio devices are known, for example as a handheld device of a cordless telephone or as a mobile phone.
For the reasons mentioned, there is a general desire to reduce the size of the antenna to such an extent that it can no longer be disturbed and / or injured in the everyday handling of the radio equipment.
A very small radio receiver is known from the

From the publication H. The investigations assume that the slot antenna forms part of the housing wall and that the housing is either made of metal or is designed as an at least partially metallized plastic part. From J. Rasinger, A.L. Scholtz, W. Pichler, E. Bonek, (A New Enhanced-Bandwidth Internal Atenna for Portable Communication Systems), CH2846-4 / 90/00000007 $ 1.00 Copyright 1990 IEEE is known for another theoretical work dealing with the problem and deals with the properties of an antenna that is integrated into the housing of a portable radio. This is a radiation-coupled, double-L-shaped tongue antenna.
Based on this prior art, it is the object of the invention to provide a practically feasible, inexpensive antenna for a handheld radio that does not protrude beyond the housing of the device, but at least sufficiently fulfills all requirements with regard to the power and radiation characteristics of a radio .
Die abhängigen Ansprüche geben Einzelheiten und technische Ausgestaltungen an.The solution to this problem is given by the characterizing part of the independent claim. The dependent claims provide details and technical configurations.
- Fig. 1 - Ansicht einer Schlitzantenne (Stand der Technik),
- Fig. 2 bis 4 - Perspektivische Ansicht, Explosionsdarstellung bzw.

- 2 to 4 - perspective view, exploded view or top view of the inner elements of a radio device to be carried in the hand,
- Fig.5 - side view of the inner elements of a second radio.
Fig. 1 zeigt eine an sich bekannte Schlitzantenne 10. Auskopplung wesentlich weniger hochohmig.1 shows a
It is also known per se that a
Neusilber) aufgesteckt. Dieses Blechteil 11 bzw. die Schlitzantenne 10 wird der besseren Übersicht halber in Fig. 3 nochmals in Explosionsdarstellung gezeigt.2 shows a perspective view of the structure of the inner elements of a radio device to be carried in the hand, in particular the hand-held device of a cordless telephone. In such a battery-operated hand-held device, all of the electronics can be accommodated on a single, rectangular printed
The slot width B of the
In order to support the spring properties and to maintain the aforementioned small distances between the
For reasons of radio frequency technology, the
Bei diesem Gerät ist die Elektronik auf zwei parallel zueinander angeordnete Leiterplatten 16, 17 verteilt.5 shows the side view of the inner elements of a second radio device of the type discussed here. In this device, the electronics are distributed over two
The structure is generally such that the surfaces of the
Seen overall, the construction of one or two printed circuit board (s) 16, 17,
- - The
sheet metal part 11 of theslot antenna 10 can be formed symmetrically with two 22, 23 of equal length. As shown, it is also possible to have an asymmetrical structure with legs of different lengths.legs - - The structure of the
slot antenna 10 can be done differently instead of a self-supportingsheet metal part 11. Theantenna 11 can thus be designed as a printed circuit board be, wherein a thin metal layer is held mechanically stable by the substrate or the carrier material. Theslot 12 can be formed by etching away the metal layer or by punching it out together with the substrate. The substrate itself can be stiff or flexible. - - The length L of the
slot 12 is the most important factor for the resonance frequency of theantenna 1 0 . It is now possible to vary the resonance frequency of theantenna 10 by approximately 10% by pasting theslot 12 of thesheet metal part 11 with a dielectric film, in particular a self-adhesive strip. This allows the antenna to be easily adjusted to a desired working frequency while maintaining the same shape. The effect of the over-sticking is greatest in themiddle part 21 of theantenna 10. The effect decreases towards the thighs, which enables fine tuning. The effect also depends on the type and thickness of the dielectric and on other parameters. If theantenna 10 is designed as a printed plate, the dielectric carrier material already corresponds to one (over-gluing). In this case, the adjustment can be carried out by removing the carrier material from the slot area - - The shape of the
antenna 10 or thesheet metal part 11 allows numerous deviations from the preferred rectangular shape mentioned. In particular, positioning slots can be provided and deformations of thesheet metal part 11 can be made essentially without problems from the outer edge. Furthermore, theantenna slot 12 does not have to have a constant width B, but can have widenings and / or constrictions. - - The
antenna 11 can be mechanically rigidly connected to the circuit board (s) 16, 17, for example by gluing.
