Abstract

The helmet has a shellproof dome (1) with inner lining fixed by a screw sleeve connection (3) which projects through an opening in the dome and adjoins the outside of the dome with a flat round head (2) which can be turned by a tool. This head is made solid with the relevant part of the connection with a flat surface from a highly tensile material and has parallel opposing straight edges (7) to form the key faces. The distance between the key faces is preferably twice as large as the outer diameter of the part of the screw sleeve connection belonging to the head. A screw connected to the head can be screwed into a sleeve fixed on the inner lining.

Description

The invention relates to a bulletproof helmet consisting of a bulletproof dome and an interior, which is attached to the dome with a screw-sleeve connection, which protrudes through an opening of the dome and on the outside of the dome with a trained to rotate by a tool flat, round head.

Bulletproof helmets usually consist of a steel dome or, for reasons of weight, preferably a plastic dome consisting of a large number of plastic layers reinforced with fabric layers. A common interior of such helmets consists of a strap and a shock-absorbing plastic basket, which preferably consists of spider-like webs on which there are shock-absorbing knobs. In the case of known helmets, this interior is attached to the bulletproof dome by means of a screw-sleeve connection, which is inserted in a corresponding hole in the helmet, a head of the connection abutting the outside of the dome and preferably having a spherical surface with a has a low overall height. The head can belong to a screw if an associated sleeve with an internal thread is connected to the interior, so that by screwing the screw in the sleeve a firm connection between the calotte and interior can be produced. In order to prevent the screw from turning when the sleeve is tightened from the inside of the spherical cap, the head is provided with a small hexagon socket and can be held securely with a suitable hexagon wrench. The screw with the head resting on the outside of the spherical cap is usually made of steel, while the sleeve can consist of a conventional brass alloy.

The present invention is based on the general problem of improving the bullet resistance of such a known helmet.

Based on this problem, a bulletproof helmet of the type mentioned is characterized according to the invention in that the head with the associated part of the screw-sleeve connection is made of solid, flat surface made of a high-strength material and is provided with parallel, opposite straight edges as a key surface .

The invention is based on the surprising finding found by the applicant that the screw-sleeve connection of the known helmet is a weak point with regard to the bullet resistance, which unexpectedly has a lower bullet resistance than the known multi-layer helmet caps made of plastic. Experiments have shown that if the screw-sleeve connection is bombarded directly, parts of this connection are catapulted into the interior of the helmet cap and therefore pose a life-threatening risk of injury to the helmet wearer. It has been shown in the investigations by the applicant that a weak point in the screw-sleeve connection lies in the design of the hexagon socket. This weak point is avoided in accordance with the invention in that no hexagon socket is provided for a rotationally fixed hold of the head of the screw-sleeve connection which lies against the outside of the spherical cap and also no slot for a screwdriver is provided, but the rotationally fixed holding of the head is made possible by external key surfaces which are formed by opposite straight edges of the head. These edges are so far out on the head that the distance between the straight edges is only slightly less than the diameter of the screw head in the rest. The head is so large that a secure attachment is guaranteed. The distance between the wrench surfaces is preferably approximately twice as large as the outer diameter of the part of the screw-sleeve connection which is connected to the head and which is preferably the screw.

Zugfestigkeit).The high-strength material of the head with the part of the screw-sleeve connection connected to it is preferably high-strength steel of strength class 8.8 (yield strength, tensile strength).

It has been shown that the bullet resistance of the screw-sleeve connection can be increased by the inventive design of the head so that it regularly exceeds the bullet resistance of conventional bulletproof caps and therefore no longer represents a weak point for the protection of the helmet wearer.

The invention is explained below with reference to an embodiment shown in the drawing. Show it:
Figure 1 -
a partial side view of a bulletproof helmet with a screw-sleeve connection for an interior
Figure 2 -
a vertical section through the dome part shown in Figure 1 with the screw-sleeve connection.

Figure 1 shows the front part with the transition into the neck part of a bullet-proof dome 1. On the outside of the cap 1, a head 2 of a screw 3 can be seen, which projects through a suitable bore 4 in the cap 1. The head 2 has a spherically convex outer surface 5 with a circular outer edge 6. On two opposite sides, the outer edge is formed by two parallel straight edges 7, which represent key surfaces for holding the head 2 in a rotationally fixed manner.

As illustrated in FIG. 2, the screw 3, together with a suitable sleeve 8 with an internal thread for the screw 3, forms a screw-sleeve connection 3, 8 through the spherical cap 1. For this purpose, the sleeve 8 is also provided with a head 9 which has a hexagon socket 10 with which the sleeve 8 can be tightened on the screw 3 held in a rotationally fixed manner.

Figure 2 shows that through the head 9 of the sleeve 8, a belt piece 11 and a fastening strip of a support basket 12 of the interior 13 of the helmet is clamped to the calotte 1. A chin strap 14 is attached to the strap piece 11.

The carrier basket 12 consists in a known manner of a circumferential headband 16 provided with cushions 15 and basket straps 17 extending in a spider shape to the apex, which are provided with plastically deformable knobs 18 pointing towards the calotte 1 and rest against the calotte 1.

In particular, FIG. 2 shows that the head 2 of the screw 3 rests on the outside of the calotte 1 with a low overall height and is solid without a weakening point. Together with the use of a high-strength steel for the formation of the head 2 with the screw 3, a bullet resistance can be achieved which is regularly above the bullet resistance for the calotte 1.

The effort required for this improvement is minimal, and there is no impairment of handling, even during assembly, since the head 2 with its key surfaces 7 can be held securely in a rotationally fixed manner.
