Definitions
- the invention relates to a mold for the continuous casting of steel strip, with broad side walls and narrow side walls, the broad side walls having a funnel-shaped pouring area, which is reduced to the narrow sides and in the casting direction to the format of the cast strip, and the narrow side walls, which are adjustably arranged between the broad side walls, are parallel to one another .
- a mold of this type has become known from EP-B1 0 149 734. So that the strand cannot get jammed as a result of the mold narrowing, the broad side walls of this known mold run laterally to the funnel-shaped pouring area, forming a parallel area starting from the pouring area at a distance corresponding to the strip thickness and parallel to the respective narrow side wall. Due to this design, a trapezoidal solidification in the area of the inclined broad side walls is avoided, and the formation of strand shells in the parallel area cannot lead to jamming.
- the possible adjustment or displacement of the narrow side walls in the parallel area of the broad side walls makes it possible to change the format width of the strand during casting. However, if a strand with a greater thickness is to be cast, the narrow side walls must be replaced.
- a continuous mold deviating from the generic mold has become known from DE 35 01 422 C2. This is because it has broad side walls converging in the casting or flow direction and narrow side walls diverging in the casting or flow direction.
- the converging broad side walls are bulged outwards, with a larger radius at the inlet end than at the outlet end.
- the broad side walls are formed with flat contact surfaces against which the narrow side walls bear with flat counter-contact surfaces.
- the design of the walls of this continuous mold makes it possible to change the thickness of the strand during the casting operation, but for this it is necessary to move the narrow side walls vertically, ie in or against the casting direction.
- the wedge-shaped form of the strand in this continuous mold from the inlet end to the outlet end means that undesired deformations occur, in particular in the edge region.
- the invention has for its object to design a generic mold so that the thickness of the strand can be changed when the mold is closed and the strand can nevertheless be pulled out of the mold without deformation of the narrow side or edge region.
- the broad side walls are formed in the funnel-shaped pouring area as a convex circular arc section and to the side of the funnel-shaped pouring area with outwardly inclined surfaces approaching the narrow sides. It is thus possible to produce both a strand with rectangular solidification of the strand shell at the edges of the hinge, i.e. essentially without any deformation in the edge area, as is inevitable in the case of trapezoidal or wedge-shaped solidifying strands, as well as the thickness of the cast strand to change with the mold closed and thus during the casting operation. Namely, it is only necessary to move the broad side walls provided with corresponding inclined surfaces towards or away from one another, for example by means of a spindle drive.
- One embodiment of the invention provides that the inclined surfaces with tangent points lying one above the other in the casting direction, alternatively obliquely, are applied to the convex arc section of the pouring region.
- the funnel opening dimension is understood to mean the horizontal distance between the upper edge or the inlet end of the mold and the mold outlet which is narrower than the inlet end.
- concavely curved wall sections are provided between the inclined surfaces and the convex circular arc section.
- there is a turning point in the mold but in this embodiment, small radii leading to a large funnel opening can be achieved, which is equivalent to a more favorable deformation ratio and a smaller elongation for the solidifying strand.
- the angle of inclination of the inclined surfaces can be up to 10 °.
- the radius for the convex circular arc section can be changed by varying the angular dimension of the inclination of the inclined surfaces; a larger angle of inclination enables a correspondingly smaller radius and thus a larger funnel opening.
- a mold 1 shown in FIGS. 2a and 2b for the casting of thin slabs, in particular, in a downstream continuous casting installation consists of two broad side walls 2 and two narrow side walls 3 arranged between them and moving towards or away from one another.
- the broad side walls 2 used for the mold have - as 1 - a funnel-shaped pouring area 4, into which a pouring tube 5, which introduces the liquid steel, projects.
- the pouring area 4 is formed with a convex circular arc section 6, which is limited to part of the mold height and width, which is illustrated by the thick lines drawn on the inside.
- oblique surfaces 7 are attached to the circular arc section 6, which extend outwards from the lines delimiting the minimal format B min at an angle of inclination ⁇ (see FIGS. 2a and 2b) in such a way that they approach each other in the installed position of the wide side walls 2 in the region of the narrow side walls 3, as shown in FIGS. 2a, 2b.
- ⁇ angle of inclination
- a straight mold wall surface 9 is formed, the width of which corresponds to the minimum format width B min .
- the maximum format width is given by B max and the adjustment path resulting for each page is specified by s.
- the format width and the thickness of the strand cast by means of the mold 1 can be changed by adjusting or pushing the narrow side walls 3 - either to the inside of the mold space enclosed between the walls 2, 3 of the mold 1 or to the outside - with the mold closed.
- the narrow side walls 3 are formed with inclined counter surfaces 10 corresponding to the inclined surfaces 7 of the broad side walls 2.
- the mold set to the smallest format width B min and correspondingly the smallest thickness D min is shown in FIG. 2a. If the narrow side walls 3 are moved outward from the position according to FIG. 2a in the direction of the arrow, the format width and thickness change accordingly, FIG. 2b indicating the maximum format width B max and the greatest thickness D max in which the narrow side walls 3 are completely have been moved to the outside.
- the distance of the tangent points TP is due to the distance measure L - as entered in FIG. 2a - clarifies, the tangent points TP lying vertically above or below one another in this embodiment in the casting direction and coinciding with the lateral outer boundaries of the circular arc section 6 of the broad side wall 2 (cf. FIG. 1).
- the radius R for the upper edge of the funnel-shaped pouring area 4 or the convex circular arc section 6 and the funnel opening dimension Y are also entered in FIG. 2a.
- the funnel opening dimension Y can be influenced by changing the angle of inclination ⁇ of the inclined surfaces 7; the angle can be up to 10 °, and the larger it is designed within the specified bandwidth, the smaller the radius R for the pouring funnel.
- the broad side wall 102 shown in FIG. 3 and the mold 100 equipped therewith differ from the previously described embodiment of the wide side wall 2 only in that the inclined surface walls 7 are included in the casting direction 8, i.e. from top to bottom, tangent points T.P. (cf. in FIG. 3 the solid lines delimiting the convex circular arc section 6 in width).
- This design enables a larger funnel opening dimension Y.
- FIGS. 5 and 6 A further — without departing from the basic principle — modification of the design of a broad side wall 202 for a mold 200 is shown in FIGS. 5 and 6.
- concave wall sections 11 are formed opposite to the bending of the circular arc section 6.
- inflection points WP occur in the mold space enclosed between the walls of the mold 200, but this design allows a larger funnel opening to be provided with small radii R.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a mold for the continuous casting of steel strip, with broad side walls and narrow side walls, the broad side walls having a funnel-shaped pouring area, which is reduced to the narrow sides and in the casting direction to the format of the cast strip, and the narrow side walls, which are adjustably arranged between the broad side walls, are parallel to one another .
A mold of this type has become known from EP-B1 0 149 734. The possible adjustment or displacement of the narrow side walls in the parallel area of the broad side walls makes it possible to change the format width of the strand during casting. However, if a strand with a greater thickness is to be cast, the narrow side walls must be replaced.
A continuous mold deviating from the generic mold has become known from DE 35 01 422 C2. This is because it has broad side walls converging in the casting or flow direction and narrow side walls diverging in the casting or flow direction. The converging broad side walls are bulged outwards, with a larger radius at the inlet end than at the outlet end. At their ends directed towards the narrow side walls, the broad side walls are formed with flat contact surfaces against which the narrow side walls bear with flat counter-contact surfaces. The design of the walls of this continuous mold makes it possible to change the thickness of the strand during the casting operation, but for this it is necessary to move the narrow side walls vertically, ie in or against the casting direction. The wedge-shaped form of the strand in this continuous mold from the inlet end to the outlet end means that undesired deformations occur, in particular in the edge region.
The invention has for its object to design a generic mold so that the thickness of the strand can be changed when the mold is closed and the strand can nevertheless be pulled out of the mold without deformation of the narrow side or edge region.
This object is achieved in that the broad side walls are formed in the funnel-shaped pouring area as a convex circular arc section and to the side of the funnel-shaped pouring area with outwardly inclined surfaces approaching the narrow sides.
One embodiment of the invention provides that the inclined surfaces with tangent points lying one above the other in the casting direction, alternatively obliquely, are applied to the convex arc section of the pouring region. This results in the alternative design with diagonally superimposed tangent points, i.e. in the casting direction the width of the convex circular arc section increases continuously, a larger opening dimension of the funnel-shaped pouring area on the inlet side of the mold. Here, the funnel opening dimension is understood to mean the horizontal distance between the upper edge or the inlet end of the mold and the mold outlet which is narrower than the inlet end.
It is proposed that concavely curved wall sections are provided between the inclined surfaces and the convex circular arc section. In this case, there is a turning point in the mold, but in this embodiment, small radii leading to a large funnel opening can be achieved, which is equivalent to a more favorable deformation ratio and a smaller elongation for the solidifying strand.
According to a proposal of the invention, the angle of inclination of the inclined surfaces can be up to 10 °. In this case, in the preferred embodiment with inclined surfaces directly applied to the convex circular arc section, the radius for the convex circular arc section can be changed by varying the angular dimension of the inclination of the inclined surfaces; a larger angle of inclination enables a correspondingly smaller radius and thus a larger funnel opening.

A mold 1 shown in FIGS. 2a and 2b for the casting of thin slabs, in particular, in a downstream continuous casting installation consists of two
On the side of the funnel-shaped pouring area 4,
The format width and the thickness of the strand cast by means of the mold 1 can be changed by adjusting or pushing the narrow side walls 3 - either to the inside of the mold space enclosed between the
Fig. 1) . The distance of the tangent points TP is due to the distance measure L - as entered in FIG. 2a - clarifies, the tangent points TP lying vertically above or below one another in this embodiment in the casting direction and coinciding with the lateral outer boundaries of the
Fig. 6) ausgebildet. A further — without departing from the basic principle — modification of the design of a
All versions are common, without having to go into detail again for the individual designs according to FIGS. 3 and 4 or 5 and 6, since there is no difference in this respect from the embodiment according to FIGS. 1 and 2a, 2b that closed
