Die in den Fig. 1 bis 3 gezeigte Höhenverstellung ist hier mit einer Rückenlehne aus Rückenplatte 1, Rückenlehnenträger 2 und Befestigungselement 3 gezeigt. Die Rückenplatte 1, die eine Holzplatte oder eine Kunststoff- oder Metallschale sein kann, ist mit dem flächig ausgebildeten Befestigungselement 3 verschraubt. Das Befestigungselement 3, das aus Metall oder Kunststoff bestehen kann, liegt an dem Rückenlehnenträger 2 an, wobei zwischen dem Befestigungselement 3 und dem Rückenlehnenträger 2 wenigstens zueinander passende, vorzugsweise profilierte Gleitflächen angeordnet sind. Das Befestigungselement 3 und der Rückenlehnenträger 2 werden durch die Klemmvorrichtung verbunden, die in Fig. 1 in geöffneter und in Fig. 2 in geschlossener Position gezeigt ist. Die eine Seite der Klemmung wird durch Hinterschneidungen 15 eines Ankers 7 gebildet, der durch Schlitze in dem Befestigungselement 3 und dem Rückenlehnenträger 2 geführt ist. Der Schlitz 16 im Befestigungselement 3 ist dabei so ausgelegt, daß der Anker 7 mit seinen Hinterschneidungen 15 hinter und neben diesem zum Anliegen kommt, während der Schlitz 22 im Rückenlehnenträger 2 die Länge aufweist, um die die Rückenlehne entlang des Rückenlehnenträgers 3 maximal bewegt werden soll. An seinem anderen Ende weist der Anker 7 eine Bohrung 14 auf, mit der er in eine mittige Ausnehmung 8' an einem in Klemmposition auf das Befestigungselement gerichteten Ansatz 8'' eines Hebels 8 greift, welcher seitlich dieser Ausnehmung 8' ebenfalls Bohrungen 9 aufweist. Durch die Bohrungen 9, 14 ist ein Bolzen 10 gesteckt, so daß der Hebel 8 schwenkbar an dem Anker 7 gelagert ist. Der Hebel 8, der in Fig. 4 in der Unteransicht dargestellt ist, weist weiter außen an dem Ansatz 8'' Zapfen 19 auf, die in Langlöcher 12 in seitlich hochstehenden Lappen 11'' eines in Fig. 5 näher dargestellten Druckkörpers 11 greifen, der mit seinem anderen, abgerundeten Ende 11' in einer Mulde eines Klemmkörpers liegt. Dadurch sind die beiden Teile 4, 5 des Klemmkörpers bestrebt, eine größere Gesamthöhe gegenüber dem Befestigungselement 3 zu erreichen, wodurch die durch Abnutzung oder Ermüdung einzelner Teile nachlassende ursprüngliche Spannkraft stets durch einen quasi wachsenden Klemmkörper wieder hergestellt wird.
