Description

The field of the present invention is that of positioning devices for dispersible submunitions and in particular for bi-directional mines with shaped charge.

When distributing mines on the ground by means of a cargo shell or even with a mine disperser, there is the problem of their positioning on the ground.

The addition certificate FR2475716 discloses a bi-directional dispersible mine with a formed charge.

Such a mine is effective regardless of the face on which it reaches the ground. Elastic tabs distributed over its periphery make it possible to avoid immobilization of the mine on its edge by bringing it back to a stable position on one or the other of its faces.

However, if these elastic tongues make it possible to solve the problem of the orientation of the mine on hard ground, they are totally inoperative on loose soil in which the mines sink into a random position which makes them ineffective.

Patent US3205322, the description of which is taken from the preamble of independent claim 1, describes an anti-personnel mine dispersible by aircraft. This mine has elastic tongues attached to its rear part. The tongues open when the mine falls, which makes it possible to stabilize the attitude of the latter with its front end directed towards the ground. Such an arrangement makes it possible to orient the submunition favorably relative to the ground but it does not make it possible to improve the posability on hard ground, the mine then lying laterally and becoming ineffective.

It is the object of the present invention to propose a device for positioning dispersible mines and in particular bidirectional mines with shaped charge, a device which ensures correct placement of the mines both on soft ground and on hard ground.

Thus the subject of the invention is a positioning device for a submunition on the ground after its impact, of the bidirectional dispersible mine type, and comprising a set of flexible tongues regularly distributed around the submunition, device characterized in that the distribution of the tongues is such that the result of the aerodynamic forces exerted on the submunition at its point of application behind the center of gravity of the latter, and in that the tongues integral with a face located at level of a rear part of the submunition in its direction of travel of its trajectory have a shape such that they undergo permanent deformation during the dispersion of the mine.

According to a particular embodiment, the positioning device is intended to equip a submunition dispersed by a vector animated with a rotational movement, such as an artillery cargo shell, it is characterized in that the tongues undergo a deformation permanent under the effect of centrifugal force.

Advantageously, the distribution of the tongues is such that they are all integral with a face situated at the level of a rear part of the submunition in its direction of travel of its trajectory.

According to a variant, the distribution of the tongues is such that the aerodynamic resistance resulting from the tongues secured to a face situated at the level of a rear part of the submunition in its direction of travel of its trajectory is greater than that of the tongues secured of a face opposite to the rear face.

In particular, the number of tongues secured to the front face may be equal to that of the tongues secured to the rear face and the surface of the tongues secured to the rear face may be greater than that of the tongues secured to the front face.

According to a particular embodiment, the tongues integral with the front face are produced in the form of folded wires.

Preferably, the tongues integral with the rear face of the submunition make in an deployed position an angle with the axis of the submunition which is such that the diameter of a circle on which their ends are distributed. free is greater than twice the height of the submunition.

Preferably, the deformable tongues have a geometry such that they have a cross section which decreases regularly from the base of the tongue towards its free end.

The deformable tongues may have a longitudinal opening whose width increases regularly from the base of the tongue towards its free end.

Cette dernière comporte, d'une façon connue et décrite par FR2475716, deux revêtements (les revêtements de cette charge ne sont pas représentés).Referring to FIG. 1, a submunition 1 of the dispersible mine type, according to the state of the art represented by the certificate of addition FR2475716, comprises a housing 2 containing an explosive charge 3. The latter comprises, in a known manner and described by FR2475716, two coatings (the coatings of this charge are not shown).

The housing 2 is embedded in a damping structure 4 made of plastic. Two metal washers 5 and 6 are positioned on annular notches 7 and 8 arranged respectively on the flat faces 9 and 10.

The washers are made integral with the mine by means of tie rods 11, regularly distributed angularly, and which pass through the mine. The ends of the tie rods are riveted on the washers 5 and 6.

The mine also has flexible tongues 12 regularly distributed around its periphery. One end of these tongues is made integral with one face of the mine at the level of the rivets 13a, 13b of the tie rods 11 on the washers 5 or 6.

The other end of the tongues is free and is located substantially in a median plane 14 of the mine.

The tongues integral with one face are arranged in angular alternation with the tongues integral with the other side.

The tongues 12 can be folded into housings 15 arranged in the damping structure 4. They are thus folded when the mine is placed inside a shell or a launching tube. They deploy when the mine is ejected from the shell or the launch tube.

As it was specified in the preamble, the elastic tabs make it possible to solve the problem of the orientation of the mine on hard ground, but they are completely inoperative on a loose ground in which the mines sink in a random position what which makes them ineffective.

La figure 2 représente une sous-munition 1, de type mine bidirectionnelle à charge formée, qui est équipée d'un dispositif de positionnement selon un premier mode de réalisation de l'invention.FIG. 2 represents a submunition 1, of the bidirectional mine type with a shaped charge, which is equipped with a positioning device according to a first embodiment of the invention.

This mine 1 also includes two metal washers 5 and 6 which are positioned on annular notches 7 and 8 arranged respectively on the flat faces 9 and 10.

The washers are made integral with the mine by means of tie rods 11 regularly angularly distributed and which pass through the mine. The ends of the tie rods are fixed by rivets 13a, 13b on the washers 5 and 6.

The mine 1 here comprises sixteen tongues 16 regularly angularly distributed and one end of which is made integral with the face 10 of the mine at the level of the rivets 13b of the tie rods 11 on the washer 6.

No tongue is attached to the face 9 of the mine.

The face 10 of the mine is that which is situated at the rear of the mine in its direction of travel of its trajectory after it is ejected from a shell or from a disperser tube.

This particular distribution of the tabs ensures that the result of the aerodynamic forces exerted on the mine during its ballistic trajectory will have its point of application behind the center of gravity of the mine (the latter is located substantially at the 'intersection of a median plane 14 and the axis 19 of the mine).

This arrangement stabilizes the mine and allows it to maintain a constant attitude on its trajectory, the face 9 facing forward and the face 10 facing rear.

This constant orientation is favorable to the correct positioning of the mine whatever the type of soil as will be described later.

The tongues can be folded into housings 15 arranged in the damping structure 4.

The free ends of the tongues are in a plane 17 which is closer to the front face 9 of the mine than to the rear face 10 on which the tongues are fixed.

The tongues thus have a length greater than half the height H of the mine.

Some tongues 16a have an opening 18, they are placed alternately with tongues 16b without opening.

It is thus possible, by varying the length of the tongues and the dimensions of the openings, to vary the position of the point of application of the aerodynamic forces and therefore to adapt the device according to the invention to submunitions of different shapes, of different masses or ejected with different speeds.

Il est également possible de jouer sur le nombre de languettes 16.It is also possible to play on the number of tabs 16.

As a variant and depending on the characteristics of the mine, we can therefore provide openings 18 on all the tongues 16 or on any tongue.

According to another characteristic of the invention, the tongues make in their deployed position an angle with the axis 19 of the lead which is such that the diameter D of a circle on which their free ends are distributed is greater than once and half the height H of the mine (for a mine whose height is substantially equal to the half external diameter of the damping structure 4).

This arrangement makes it possible to ensure that, in the event of a rebound on hard ground and the mine falling back onto its edge after its rebound, the tongues bring the mine back into contact with the ground at one of its flat faces.

It will also be possible to play on the elasticity of the tongues to promote the imbalance of the mine when it falls on its edge. Such an imbalance brings the mine back onto the ground at one of its flat faces.

More generally, it will be ensured that the diameter D of the circle as well as the position of the plane 17 in which the free ends of the tongues are located are such that the position of a mine on its edge is an unstable position.

Figure 4 shows a second embodiment of the positioning device according to the invention.

In this particular embodiment, the face 10, or rear face of the mine, carries tongues 20b regularly distributed angularly and which are made integral with the mine by the rivets 13b of the tie rods 11.

The face 9, or front face of the mine, carries tongues 20a regularly distributed angularly.

The free ends of the tongues 20a and 20b lie substantially in the median plane 14 of the mine.

The tongues can be folded into housings 15 arranged in the damping structure 4.

The tongues 20a which are integral with the front face 9 of the mine have openings 18a, and the tongues 20b which are integral with the rear face 10 of the mine have openings 18b.

The dimensions of the openings 18a and 18b are such that the surface of the tongues 20b secured to the rear face 10 is greater than that of the tongues 20a secured to the front face 9.

Such an arrangement ensures that the aerodynamic resistance provided by the tongues 20b secured to the rear face 10 is greater than that of the tongues 20a secured to the front face 9.

Thus the result of the aerodynamic forces exerted on the mine during its ballistic trajectory will still have its point of application behind the center of gravity of the mine and the mine will maintain a constant attitude on its trajectory, face 9 oriented towards the 'front and face 10 facing rear.

The presence of tabs 20a at the front face will limit the penetration of the mine into loose soil.

According to a particularly advantageous embodiment, the tongues 20a will be manufactured by bending a metal wire and spot welding 21 of this wire on the washer 5 (see FIG. 5). The washer 5 is made integral with the front face 9 by the rivets 13a of the tie rods 11.

As in the previous embodiment, the tongues make in their deployed position an angle with the axis 19 of the lead which is such that the diameter D of a circle on which their free ends are distributed is greater than twice the height H from mine.

It is possible, as a variant, to play on the lengths of the tongues, on the dimensions of the openings and on the number of tongues secured to each of the faces.

It is thus possible to vary the position of the point of application of the aerodynamic forces and therefore to adapt the device according to the invention to submunitions of different shapes or different masses.

Figures 6 and 7 show a third embodiment of the positioning device according to the invention, embodiment more particularly intended to equip mines which are dispersed by a vector animated by a rotational movement, such as a cargo shell of artillery.

In this case the mine carries eight tongues 22 which are all fixed on its rear face 10. No tongue is fixed on the front face 9. The method of fixing the tongues is the same as that described for the previous embodiments ( riveting the tie rods on the washer which is fixed on the rear face 10).

These tabs are shown in Figures 6 and 7 in an undeformed position. They can fold back along the mine, their free ends then come into housings 15 arranged in the damping structure 4.

Figures 8a and 8b show a tongue 22 alone in two orthogonal views.

It comprises a rear fold 23 on which a hole 24 is drilled allowing the fixing of the tongue on the rear face 10 of the mine. It also has a front spout 25 and a longitudinal opening 26. The opening thus delimits two branches 27a, 27b on the tongue 22

The front spout 25 secures the two branches 27a and 27b and thus ensures a certain rigidity at the free end of the tongue 22 which avoids deterioration during the assembly phases.

The width of the longitudinal opening 26 increases regularly from the base of the tongue 22 towards its free end. This arrangement has the effect of regularly decreasing the cross section of the tongue between its base and its free end.

The variation profile of the section of the tongue is chosen so that, when the tongue is subjected to centrifugal force during the ejection of the lead, the elastic limit of the tongue is reached at certain points without the breaking strength limit is not exceeded. It is thus possible to obtain permanent and controlled deformation of the tongues.

The profile of the tongue after deformation will be chosen so as to ensure sufficient aerodynamic resistance of the tongues to ensure the stabilization of the mine and allow it to maintain a constant attitude on its trajectory, the face 9 facing forward and the face 10 rear-facing.

The practical determination of the suitable profile will be made by a person skilled in the art using the well-known principles for determining beams of equal flexural strength.

Figure 8c shows the mine after it was ejected from a cargo shell. The tongues 22 then have a permanent deformation and their free ends are distributed over a circle whose diameter D is greater than twice the height H of the mine.

Another advantage of such an embodiment of the invention is that the tongues have, after permanent deformation, a certain rigidity which improves the return of the mine bearing on the ground at one of its flat faces, when it fell on its edge after bouncing on hard ground.

It is therefore possible to obtain both a large value of diameter D and a high rigidity of the deployed tongues.

By playing on the lengths or the number of the tongues or on the amplitude of their deformation (therefore their aerodynamic resistance) it is possible to vary the position of the point of application of the aerodynamic forces and therefore to adapt the device according to the invention to submunitions of different shapes or different masses.

It will be noted that, in this particular case of a mine ejected by an artillery shell, the presence of openings 26 modifies the aerodynamic drag of the tongues 22 relatively little. This is true for residual speeds of the order of 200 m / s. It is therefore preferable in this case to play on the number of tabs and their dimensions.

For mines dispersed with low speeds (of the order of 80 to 100m / s) the embodiments described above with reference to Figures 2 to 5 are better suited and it will then be possible to modify the aerodynamic drag by playing on the dimensions of the openings in the tabs.

As a variant, it will be possible to produce tongues without opening 26 but whose cross section nevertheless decreases regularly from the base of the tongue towards its free end. The shape of the tongues will then be substantially triangular or trapezoidal.

La figure 9 schématise l'arrivée d'une mine 1 équipée d'un dispositif de positionnement selon l'invention sur un sol meuble 28.FIG. 9 shows diagrammatically the arrival of a mine 1 equipped with a positioning device according to the invention on loose soil 28.

The presence of the tabs 22 fixed on the rear face 10 ensures an arrival of the mine with a constant attitude on its trajectory. The trajectory is marked by curve 29 in dotted lines. The mine is represented in 30a and 30b in the last moments before its impact on the ground 28.

L'enfoncement est limité par la présence des languettes 22.The mine touches the ground by its front face 9 which sinks into the loose soil. The penetration is limited by the presence of the tabs 22.

The mine is therefore positioned correctly on the ground (position 30c) with its rear face 10 substantially parallel to the ground and oriented towards a possible target.

Les figures 10a et 10b schématisent l'arrivée d'une mine 1 équipée d'un dispositif de positionnement selon l'invention sur un sol dur 31.FIGS. 10a and 10b show diagrammatically the arrival of a mine 1 equipped with a positioning device according to the invention on hard ground 31.

La mine est représentée en 32a au moment de son impact sur le sol dur 31.The presence of the tabs 22 fixed on the rear face 10 still ensures the arrival of the mine on the ground 31 with a constant attitude on its trajectory. The trajectory is marked by curve 29 in dotted lines. The mine is represented in 32a at the time of its impact on hard soil 31.

The mine rebounds and follows a trajectory identified by the curve 33. It then falls either on one of its flat faces 9 or 10 (case not shown here and corresponding to a correct position of the mine on the ground), or on its edge (position 32c).

In the latter case, the presence of tongues 22 whose free ends are on a circle with a diameter greater than twice the height of the mine allows it to tilt (position 32d or 32f), ie towards the equilibrium position 32e with the face rear 10 in contact with the ground, or towards the equilibrium position 32g with the front face 9 in contact with the ground (FIG. 10b).

The lead being of the bidirectional type any one of the positions 32g or 32e allows correct subsequent operation.

It is of course possible to apply the present invention to other types of submunitions, in particular to dispersible anti-personnel mines.

It is also possible to combine the present embodiment with the preceding modes, that is to say produce a submunition whose tongues secured to the rear face of the submunition in its direction of travel of its trajectory are capable of deforming permanently and whose tongues secured to the front face are for example made in the form of folded wires. The front tabs help return the submunition on one of its flat faces in the event of a fall on the edge.

It is finally possible to define a submunition, of the type described with reference to FIGS. 2 to 5, and in which the tongues are deformed permanently by the action of the aerodynamic forces which are exerted on them at the time of ejection.

Such a variant makes it possible to apply the invention to submunitions which are ejected from a disperser which is not driven in a rotational movement or else whose rotational movement is too slow for the centrifugal force to be able to deform the tabs (rocket, missile or bomb type disperser).

To do this, it is sufficient to size the profile of each tab as a function of the air resistance forces encountered with the chosen dispersion system. The tongue will in all cases have the shape of a beam of equal resistance to bending.

Such an arrangement makes it possible, as has been described above, to improve the braking of the submunition since the tongues remain deployed even after braking and it also makes it possible to promote the posability of the submunition on hard ground.
