Definitions
- the present invention relates to a ball game beater, comprising two percussion surfaces on opposite faces and arranged in a sleeve to receive an open hand of a player.
- Such a beater is intended in particular to allow playing ball with or without bouncing on the ground, similar to tennis, but on any surface, generally smaller than tennis courts or in places where the rebound n is not possible.
- numerous types of beaters have already been proposed constituting rackets without handle or with a shortened handle and comprising, on one side of the hand or on each side, a percussion plate provided with a handle or a handle. attach the binder to the player's hand.
- An example of the prior art, described in patent application FR-A-2 4 * 37 84 * 8, is a beater comprising a sleeve having the external shape of an open hand and carrying, on its opposite faces, two percussion plates which converge slightly towards the fingertips.
- the hand inserted in the dihedral-shaped gap between the two flat plates, can hardly be at the same time comfortable and well held.
- the document describes another embodiment where the sleeve is a real glove, each side of which carries several percussion plates distributed opposite the fingers, the palm and the back of the hand. This results in a discontinuous percussion surface, the shape of which can vary greatly with the movements of the hand and therefore does not allow the ball to be directed in a safe manner.
- the present invention aims to create a beater which substantially avoids the drawbacks mentioned above and which retains and holds the hand, freeing it from any gripping effort.
- the invention relates to a beater of the kind indicated above, characterized in that the sleeve is formed of two elements of generally flattened shape, which are fixed to each other along their periphery. With the exception of an opening for the introduction of the hand, and in that each element of the sleeve is more rigid in a central part, where it forms a substantially planar percussion surface, than near its periphery.
- the elasticity of the peripheral parts of the batter allows it to grip the hand of the player to ensure both good comfort and good hitting sensitivity of the ball.
- the rigidity of the central part serving as a percussion surface allows the ball to be directed precisely.
- At least one of the elements of the sleeve has ventilation holes in the region of its percussion surface.
- the ventilation holes are defined by a grid of rigid ribs extending over at least part of the percussion surface. Said grid may have an irregular arrangement forming a decorative figure.
- the beater is made of an elastic material allowing it to conform to the shape of the hand.
- At least the sleeve element located on the side of the palm of the hand may have surface formations on its inner face to maintain its position on the hand, said formations comprising at least one hollow for wedging the palm on the side of said opening.
- Said formations may also include protrusions placed between fingers of the hand.
- At least one of the two elements of the sleeve may comprise two folds arranged on either side of the position of the hand and converging towards said opening, and closing members arranged externally by relative to the folds and arranged to mutually fix the two elements releasably on either side of the wrist of a user.
- each element of the sleeve has, along said opening, a free edge with a convex rounded profile on the side of the hand.
- Each element of the sleeve or the combination of the two elements can be a molded plastic part.
- FIG. 1 is a schematic elevation view illustrating a beater according to the invention and its use by a player
- FIG. 2 is a schematic top view of the beater
- FIG. 3 is a schematic sectional view along the line III— III of FIG. 2,
- FIGS. 4a and 4b show the interior faces of the two sleeve elements of the beater, in a particular embodiment
- FIG. 5 is a view of the inner face of the sleeve element facing the palm and provided with surface wedging formations
- FIG. 6 is a view similar to FIG. 5, illustrating another embodiment
- Figures 7 and 8 show respectively the two sides of a beater according to the invention, in another embodiment.
- FIG. 1 schematically represents a beater 1 in the form of a sleeve, inserted on a hand 2 of a player 3 who uses the beater 1 in the manner of a racket to strike a ball 4.
- Player 3 can carry the beater 1 to his right hand or his left hand, according to his preference, or possibly a beater on each hand.
- the batter 1 makes it possible to strike the ball 4 in a forehand or backhand.
- the beater 1 has a general shape illustrated by FIGS. 2 and 3 and comprises an upper element 5, placed on the back of the hand, and a lower element 6 placed on the side of the palm of the hand.
- the two elements 5 and 6 are integral or fixed to each other over the majority of their periphery, for example by sewing or gluing, constituting a closed edge 7 indicated by a broken line in Figure 2.
- the elements 5 and 6 On the rest of their periphery, the elements 5 and 6 have free edges respectively 8 and 9 between which is formed an opening 10 for the introduction of the hand.
- the upper element 5 comprises a relatively rigid flat part 11, serving as a percussion surface for striking the ball backwards.
- the lower element 6 is provided with a relatively rigid flat part 12 serving as a percussion surface for striking the ball in a forehand.
- the elements 5 and 6 deviate elastically by bending in the vicinity of their common edge 7. so that the beater 1 can hold simply by tightening on the hand it contains.
- FIG. 2 it can be seen that the shape of the beater is symmetrical in plan, so that it adapts to both the left hand and the right hand.
- the lower element 6 has a recess 13 between its flat part 12 and its free edge 3, to help maintain the beater on the hand by engagement of the prominent base of the palm in this recess.
- the two free edges 8 and 9 have an outwardly curved profile to avoid injuring the player's skin.
- closing members are provided in the opening 10, on either side of the player's wrist, in order to better retain the beat on the hand. It can be a press button, Velcro type hook-and-loop fasteners, eyelet fasteners or any other equivalent means.
- FIGS. 4a and 4b show the internal faces of the two sleeve elements 5 and 6.
- Each element 5, 6 is provided with two folds 14 which converge mutually in the direction of the wrists and which delimit each an angle area 15 where there is provided a pressure button 16, 17 cooperating with a complementary button 17, 16 provided on the other element.
- the folds 14 make it possible to easily bring the angle zones 15 without excessive bending of the other parts of the element, in particular of its profiled edge 8, 9.
- the hollow 13 for wedging the palm is located between the two folds 14 of the lower element 6.
- FIGS. 4a and 4b show that the planar parts 11,
- the two elements 5, 6 are perforated in the form of a grid comprising ventilation holes 20 between rigid ribs 21.
- Good ventilation inside the beater is an important comfort factor, in order to avoid the effects of perspiration.
- the ribs 21 constitute a rough percussion surface which makes it possible to give effect to the ball. They can have any suitable cross section, and in particular be wider on the side of the hand in order to reduce the contact pressure.
- FIG. 5 shows a case where the surface formations provided on the inner face of the lower element 6 comprise, in addition to the hollow
- each sleeve element can be made of two separate layers glued one on the other, namely a relatively rigid outer layer and an inner padding layer having surface reliefs which adapt to those of the hand.
- FIG. 7 shows the external face of the lower element 24 of the beater, that is to say on the side of the palm of the hand, and FIG. 8 shows the upper element 25.
- the two elements have similar contours , but on the element 24, the percussion surface 26 is formed by a grid of ribs 27 and ventilation holes 28 whose configuration represents the face of a cat.
- this drawing can be completed by a color printing.
- the percussion surface 29 of the upper element 25 can have any configuration, similar to that shown in Figures 4 * a and 4b.

Abstract
The invention relates to a sleeve-shaped beater which can be slid over a player's hand to allow him to play in the same way as in tennis, on any ground, with or without rebound on the ground. The beater (1) has an upper sleeve element (5) and a lower sleeve element (6) which are attached along an edge (7) where an opening (10) is formed for the introduction of the hand . Each sleeve element is more rigid in a flat central part (11, 12), forming a percussion surface, than near its periphery. The beater grips and holds the hand thanks to its own elasticity. It may further include surface retaining formations (13) and closure members arranged on either side of the wrist.
