Abstract

A multi-purpose knife is shown and described which takes the form of an elongated handle, from each end of which there can optionally be extended a blade (29, 30), each blade (29, 30) being supported by inherently displaceable blade supports (27, 28) which can be locked in their pushed-inwards basic position. To ensure that only one of the two blades (29, 30) can be extended at any one time, provision is made for an actuating slide (15) to engage between the two blade holders (27, 28) by means of which slide (15) in each case one or other of the blade holders (27, 28) can be moved outwards against the resistance of a restoring spring (31) and for the actuating slide (15) to be gripped in the basic position in the direction of movement between the two manually operated alternating stops (39, 40), only one of which can be moved into the release position at any one time. <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to a multi-purpose knife in the form of an elongated handle, from the two ends of which a blade can be extended, which are each carried by movable blade holders, which can be locked in their inwardly pushed basic position.

Such multi-purpose knives can be equipped at one end with a trapezoidal blade and at the other end with a hook blade, so that, depending on the cutting work to be carried out, a suitable blade is available without having to change the blade.

From DE-OS 30 06 968, Fig. 3 and 4, a generic multi-purpose knife is known in which the two blade holders are penetrated by a locking pin graduated in diameter, which can be pressed by hand against the force of a return spring into a release position, after which, by means of a spinning movement carried out by hand, either one or the other blade holder together with the blade is extended into a working position. After releasing the locking pin, it then secures the extended blade holder in its extended position Position and the blade holder not ejected in its inserted basic position. In the known knife, however, it is critical that when the locking pin is depressed, both blade holders are unlocked at the same time, which can lead to the knife, which is directed towards the arm, especially the pulse of the operator, also being inadvertently extended, which harbors the risk of considerable injuries.

The invention has for its object to provide a generic multi-purpose knife, in which it is ensured that only one of the blades can be moved out of the handle, so as to reliably rule out the risk of injury described.

Starting from a multi-purpose knife of the type mentioned, the solution to this problem is achieved according to the invention in that an actuating slide engages between the two blade holders, with which one or the other blade holder can be moved outwards against the force of a return spring, and in that the Operating slide in the direction of movement between two manually operable interchangeable stops, of which only one is always movable in the release position.

In the multi-purpose knife according to the invention, the respective blade holder to be extended, as is known in the case of a wallpaper knife, cardboard knife or the like equipped with only one blade, is advanced by means of the actuating slide. In the basic position, this slide in the invention, however, is bordered between interchangeable stops which hold the actuating slide in its two Lock directions of movement. Only when one of the stops is brought out of its stop position can the actuating slide be moved in this direction. However, the two interchangeable stops are connected to one another in such a way that they can only be brought out alternately from their stop position, that is, one stop always remains in the stop position. When one of the blade holders is extended into the working position, the other blade holder inevitably remains in its retracted basic position by the return spring and remains secured by the stop which is assigned to it and is in the stop position. Should the actuating slide be pushed back unintentionally when performing cutting work, it can therefore only be moved back up to this stop. An unintentional extension of the rear blade facing the operator's arm is thus reliably ruled out.

According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the change stops are arranged at the ends of a rocker. By turning the rocker, one stop can thus be released, while the other is inevitably pivoted even deeper into its stop position.

In an embodiment of the invention it can be provided that the actuating slide consists of a sliding foot guided in the knife and engaging on the blade holders and of a handle part which can be pressed into the sliding foot against the force of a return spring, that the handle part in the basic position with a toothing in a Knife body engages trained row of teeth and only in the depressed position, in which its toothing is disengaged from the row of teeth, is displaceable and, when released, to lock its respective feed position, it comes back into engagement with the row of teeth with its toothing. This design makes handling the multi-purpose knife very easy. Extending positions for the blade of different widths can be selected, each of which is automatically locked by the interlocking teeth after the actuating slide has been released.

In the case of wallpaper knives, cardboard knives or the like, which are only equipped with a single extendable blade at their front end, it is known to design the rear end of the handle as a storage magazine for blades. In order to be able to carry a blade stock with the double-blade knife according to the invention, it can be provided in a further embodiment of the invention that a removable magazine cover, which extends over most of the length of the handle, is attached to the outside of the handle base body, one sufficient to accommodate at least two storage blades arranged one behind the other in the longitudinal direction. As a result, the handle is only slightly widened, which does not affect the grip of the knife.

The multi-purpose knife is mirror-symmetrical to its transverse central plane and has a housing designed as a handle, which consists of a base body 1, a cover 2 and two locking slides 3, 4. The shell-shaped base body has a C-profile at its end sections 5, 6, cf. 7 and 8, and between these sections 5, 6 a recess 7 for receiving the cover 2. In the C-shaped end sections, the locking slides 3, 4 are inserted in a manner known per se, each of which has a latching lug 9 on a tongue 8 which can be pressed down and which engages in latching receptacles 10 formed on the inside of the cover 2, cf. 15. The cover 2 is fastened to the base body 1 by means of a screw 11. For a blade change, only the slide 3 or 4 are removed.

On its upper narrow side, the cover 2 is provided with a corner recess 12 and the base body 1 with a corner recess 13, which are of the same depth and together form a guide slot for the handle part 14 of an actuating slide 15. The grip part 14 has a leg 16 directed downwards, cf. 11 and 12, a toothing 17 which, in the position according to FIGS. 3 and 4, engages in a row of teeth 18 which is formed below the corner recess 13 on the base body 1 and extends over the entire length of the corner recess 13. The teeth of the row of teeth 18, as can be seen in particular from FIG. 3, are directed towards the cover 2. The actuating slide 15 further comprises a sliding foot 19 which is guided in the groove 20 of the base body 1. A return spring 22 is arranged in a stepped recess 21 in the sliding foot 19, cf. 9 and 10. The grip part 14 is seated on the return spring 22 with a shoulder surface and projects into the return spring 22 with an extension 23. The grip part 14 can be pressed against the restoring force of the restoring spring 22 until its upper plate 24, which is provided with corrugation, strikes the row of teeth 18 or the base of the corner recess 12 on the cover side. In this depressed position, the toothing 17 of the handle part 14 is out of engagement with the row of teeth 18, so that the slide can be moved from one position or the other, shown in FIG. 4, to one side or the other, and when the handle part 14 is released again locked on the teeth row 18.

In opposite corner grooves 25, 26 of the base body 1, two blade holders 27, 28 are guided, one of which is equipped with a trapezoidal blade 29 and the other with a hooked blade 30. Between the two blade holders 27, 28 a tension or return spring 31 is tensioned, which pulls the blade holder 28 and 27 against the stop surfaces 32, 33 formed on the base body 1. The leg 16 of the handle part 14 has a width equal to the distance between the stop surfaces 32, 33. When the operating slide 15 is in the central position according to FIG. 3, both blade holders 27, 28 bear against the leg 16 of the handle part 14. The grip part 14 has hooks 34, 35 directed upwards on both sides of its lower end, which in the basic position engage in hooking receptacles 36 of the blade holders 27, 28 which are open at the bottom. When the handle part 14 is depressed, these hooks 34, 35 are uncoupled, so that the slide 15 can be moved in one direction or the other, taking one of the blade holders 27, 28 with it. After release of the handle part 14 (see FIG. 4), the hook 34 snaps into the associated hooking receptacle 36 of its blade holder 27 again, so that the blade holder 27 is positively coupled to the actuating slide 15 in the respective working position.

If, for example, the handle part 14 is pressed down unintentionally in the position shown in FIG. 4, the slider - as far as described so far - can be moved to the right up to the end of the recess 13, the trapezoidal blade 29 shown on the right in FIG. 4 being fully extended . If this happens during an operation, there is a large one Risk of trapezoidal blade 29 injuring the operator's arm, especially the pulse. To prevent this danger, a manually operated rocker 37 is pivotally mounted on the cover 2 about an axis 38, which is directed perpendicular to the direction of displacement of the actuating slide. The rocker 37 has at its ends interchangeable stops 39, 40, which in the basic position according to FIG. 3 let the plate-shaped leg 16 of the actuating slide 15 between them, so that the actuating slide is locked in both directions. By pivoting the rocker 37 on its actuating lever 41, only one of the interchangeable stops 39, 40 can be pivoted back out of the stop position, so that the actuating slide 15 is only ever moved to this one, released position and, accordingly, only one of the blades 29 and 30 is extended can be. In the position according to FIG. 4, in which the stop 39 is brought into the release position, the other stop 40 is inevitably in its stop position, so that the actuation slide 15 can only be moved back as far as possible up to the stop 40.

FIG. 15) about the axis 45 and lies in an elongated hole 46 of the cover. In the basic position, both crests 43, 44 protrude somewhat from the outside of the lid.
