Definitions
- the present invention relates to a method for casting a metal, in particular steel, in the pasty phase in a continuous casting ingot mold.
- the casting of a metal in the pasty phase consists in casting this metal, for example steel, at a temperature included in its solidification interval, that is to say between its liquidus and solidus temperatures.
- This casting technique has well-known advantages such as, in the case of steel, obtaining fine and homogeneous structures which reduce segregation in the cast products.
- This casting method is also called low overheating casting, as opposed to conventional casting in which the metal has a clear overheating compared to its liquidus.
- this overheating is usually of the order of 25 ° C to 35 ° C.
- argon is blown inside the hollow jet, usually with a flow rate of 5 to 25 l / min, to prevent oxidation of the metal; the lowering of the overheating is ensured by an external cooling of the intermediate nozzle.
- the object of the present invention is to propose a method making it possible to better control the residual overheating of the cast metal and to further improve the homogeneity of this metal in the ingot mold.
- a process for the continuous casting of a metal in the pasty phase in which said metal is poured in a hollow jet in a nozzle located between the distributor basket and the continuous casting mold and in which the lowering of the metal overheating by external cooling of said nozzle is characterized in that the residual metal overheating is regulated by injecting, into the internal volume of said hollow jet, a finely divided metallic material suspended in a non-oxidizing gas , said finely divided material having as low an oxygen content as possible.
- a finely divided material is injected consisting of a powder of the same metal as the cast metal, for example a steel powder inside a hollow jet of steel, it results in a refinement and an increased homogenization of the steel structure, which can lead to a disappearance of the axial segregation and to obtaining very homogeneous mechanical properties.
- the quantity of finely divided metal thus injected does not exceed 1% of the weight of the cast metal.
- the injected material is a powder of a metal other than the cast metal, and capable of forming therewith a predetermined alloy.
- This variant makes it possible to manufacture metal alloys having a particularly homogeneous structure and therefore more regular mechanical properties.
- the quantity of alloy metal injected is preferably between 0.5 and 10% of the weight of the cast metal.
- the particle size of the finely divided material is less than 1000 ⁇ m depending on the nature of this material and the desired effect, with a preferred value of approximately 200 ⁇ m if it is steel powder injected. in a stream of steel.
- the pressure of the gas transporting the finely divided materials in suspension will be slightly higher than atmospheric pressure, in order to avoid any entry of air by possible interstices of the casting device.
- This pressure will however be at most equal, and preferably lower than the ferrostatic pressure which prevails at the place of arrival of the metal in the ingot mold, so as to prevent any bubbling of the gas in the metal and the risk of entry of air through the ingot mold.
