Description
- The present invention relates to a buckle for watch bands.
- Japanese Utility Model Application Laid-open No. 4-54216 discloses a buckle for a watch band which has been filed by the applicant of the present invention. The buckle comprises an engaging member and a cover plate rotatably mounted on an end of the engaging member. The engaging member comprises a housing, a first push plate, and a second push plate. The cover plate has an engaging plate projecting from the underside thereof and having a hook, and a pressing-up plate having a downward slant. The first and second push plates are slidably mounted in the housing so as to be moved in the lateral direction with respect to the longitudinal direction of the band, and outwardly urged by a spring. Two stopper pins are provided in the housing, each of which is slidably engaged with a slit formed in the push plate so as to prevent the push plate from removing the housing.
- In such a buckle, the ends of the stopper pins are exposed on the surface of the housing. As a result, the appearance of the buckle is deteriorated. Furthermore, the assembling process of the push plates in the housing is complicated.
- FR-A-648607 discloses a hook-clasp for a watch band having a spring-loaded locking bolt for locking the clasp in an engaged position.
- An object of the present invention is to provide a buckle for watch bands in which an end of a stopper pin is not exposed, thereby providing a good appearance.
- Another object of the invention is to provide a buckle in which the assembling process of the buckle is simplified at a low manufacturing cost.
- According to the present invention, there is provided a buckle for a watch band in accordance with
Claim 1. - These and other objects and features of the present invention will become more apparent from the following detailed description with reference to the accompanying drawings.

- Referring to Figs. 1 to 4, a
buckle 1 of the present invention comprises afirst link 2 connected to afirst band member 32 of a watch band, asecond link 3 connected to asecond band member 33, abase plate 5 mounted on thefirst link 2, and acover 8 pivotally mounted on thebase plate 5. - The
first link 2 comprises a pair ofside frames 6 each of which has arectangular opening 16, a connectinglink 7 and astopper plate 9 which are laterally provided between theside frames 6 and secured to the side frames. - The
second link 3 comprises a pair ofside frames 28, anengaging link 29 laterally provided between theside frames 28, and a connectinglink 30 laterally provided between the side frames opposite to theengaging link 29. - As shown in Fig. 5, a
housing 11 is formed at an end portion by bending thebase plate 5, and arounded portion 13 is formed at the other end portion. A pair ofnotches 12 are formed in the end sides of thehousing 11 to be indented in the housing. - The
cover 8 has a pair ofengaging lugs 14 formed on an end portion thereof opposite to each other corresponding to thenotches 12 of thehousing 11 and a pair of rounded connectingportions 31 provided at the other end portion thereof. Eachengaging lug 14 has ahook 15 inwardly projected there-from and a downwardslant 15a on the underside thereof. Each connectingportion 31 has a connectinghole 17. The inner diameter of therounded portion 13 is larger than that of thehole 17. - A pair of
push plates 18 are slidably mounted in the space of thehousing 11 so as to be moved in the lateral direction of the band. Thepush plates 18 are the same in configuration and are symmetrically disposed in thehousing 11. Eachpush plate 18 has a manipulatingprojection 19 projected from the opening 16 of theside frame 6, anotch 20 formed on one of the sides thereof corresponding to thenotch 12 of thehousing 11, anengaging projection 21 laterally projected from an inside wall of thenotch 20 and having adownward slant 21a, anotch 22 formed on the other side opposite to thenotch 20, and anotch 23 formed opposite to the manipulatingprojection 19. Areturn spring 24 is disposed between thenotches 23 of theopposite push plates 18 so as to outwardly urge the push plates. - The
stopper plate 9 is disposed adjacent to thepush plates 18. Thestopper plate 9 has a pair ofprojections 10 to be engaged with thenotches 22 of the push plates. - In assembling, the
housing 11 is opened as shown by a dot-dash line in Fig. 5 before assembling. The both sides of thehousing 11 is abutted on theside frames 6 of thefirst link 2 corresponding to therectangular openings 16. Thepush plates 18 are inserted into thehousing 11 from bothopenings 16 of theside frames 6. At that time, since thehousing 11 is opened and a gap is formed between the push plates and the side wall of the housing, eachpush plate 18 can be inserted in the housing by riding over theprojection 10 of thestopper plate 9. Thereafter, thespring 24 is disposed between the push plates. Each manipulatingprojection 19 of the push plate is projected from the opening 16 and eachprojection 10 engages with thenotch 22 of thecorresponding push plate 18. Thus, each of thepush plates 18 is stopped by theprojection 10 at a position where the manipulatingprojection 19 of thepush plate 18 is projected from theside plate 6. Then, the upper portion of thehousing 11 shown by the dot-dash line in Fig. 5 is pressed down by bending the lower corner to the solid line position of Fig. 5, so that thehousing 11 is secured in thefirst link 2. - The
stopper plate 9 may be inserted in thehousing 11 at the assembling of the buckle together with the push plates. - The
cover 8 is connected to thebase plate 5 by apin 25 as described hereinafter. Acollar 26 is inserted in therounded portion 13 so that the inner diameter of therounded portion 13 is equal to thehole 17. Anopening coil spring 27 is mounted in therounded portion 13 adjacent to thecollar 26. An inner end of thecoil spring 27 is fixed to therounded portion 13 and anouter end 27a of thespring 27 is projected from therounded portion 13 through a slit. The connectingportions 31 of thecover 8 are engaged with the both sides of therounded portion 13 and thepin 25 is inserted into thehole 17 of the connectingportion 31,spring 27,collar 26 andhole 17 of the other connectingportion 31 in order. Thus, thecover 8 is pivotally mounted on thebase plate 5. Theouter end 27a of thespring 27 is abutted on the underside of thecover 8 so that thecover 8 is outwardly urged by thespring 27 to be opened as shown in Fig. 1. - Method of coupling the buckle will be described hereinafter.
- The
cover 8 connected to thebase plate 5 is inserted into an opening between theengaging link 29 and the connectinglink 30 of thesecond link 3 from the underside thereof. Theengaging link 29 is put on thebase plate 5 and thecover 8 is rotated about thepin 25 over theengaging link 29 toward thehousing 11, so that theengaging lugs 14 are inserted into thenotches 12 of the housing. Thedownward slants 15a of thehooks 15 are engaged with theslants 21a of theengaging projections 21 of therespective push plates 18 to inwardly push theprojections 21 and hence the push plates against the elastic force of thespring 24. When theslants 15a pass theslants 21a, the engagingprojections 21 are returned by thespring 24 and engaged with thehooks 15. Thus, thecover 8 is locked to thehousing 11 of thebase plate 5 so that thefirst link 2 is coupled to thesecond link 3 as shown in Figs. 4 and 5. - In order to disengage the
buckle 1, the manipulatingprojections 19 are pushed at the same time so that the engagingprojections 21 are disengaged from thehooks 15 of the engaginglugs 14. Since the end of thespring 27 is abutted on the underside of thecover 8 so as to urge it in the upward direction, thecover 8 is automatically opened when thehooks 15 disengage from theprojections 21. Thereafter, the engaginglink 29 is removed from thecover 8. Thus, thesecond link 3 is disconnected from thefirst link 2. - Referring to Figs. 7 to 10 showing the second embodiment, a
buckle 40 of the second embodiment comprises afirst link 42 connected to a first band member of the watch band, asecond link 43 connected to a second band member, abase plate 45 mounted on thefirst link 42, and acover 44 pivotally mounted on thebase plate 45. - The
first link 42 has a pair of side frames 46, and a connectinglink 47 laterally provided between the side frames 46. Thesecond link 43 has a pair of side frames 68, alateral engaging link 69 provided between the side frames, and alateral connecting link 67 provided opposite to the engaginglink 69. - Both
links surface plates 48 to the surfaces of theframes opening 49 is formed by the end of heframe 46 and thesurface plate 48. - A
housing 50 and arounded portion 53 are formed on thebase plate 45 in the same manners as those of the first embodiment. A pair ofnotches 52 are formed on thehousing 50, and a pair ofstopper plates 51 are formed by cutting the plate on the lateral side of the housing adjacent to thenotches 52. - The
cover 44 comprises afront plate 44a, a pair ofside plates 44b, a pair of engaginglugs 54 formed on theside plates 44b at the end portion corresponding to thenotches 52 of thehousing 50, and a pair ofrounded portions rounded portion 56a has a smaller diameter than the roundedportion 56. Each engaginglug 54 has an engaginghole 55. - A pair of
push plates 58 are slidably mounted in thehousing 50. Thepush plates 18 are the same in configuration and are symmetrically disposed in the housing. Eachpush plate 58 has a manipulatingprojection 59 projected from theopening 49 of theside frame 46, anotch 60 formed on one of the sides thereof corresponding to thenotch 52 of thehousing 50, an engagingprojection 61 laterally projected from an inside wall of thenotch 60 and having adownward slant 61a, anotch 62 formed adjacent to the engagingprojection 61, and anotch 63. Areturn spring 64 is disposed between thenotches 63 of the opposite push plates. - In assembling, the
push plates 58 and thespring 64 are inserted in thehousing 50 from one of theopenings 49. After inserting of thepush plates 58 and thespring 64, eachstopper plate 51 is bent toward thenotch 62 to be inserted into the notch. Thus, thepush plates 58 are prevented from removing from thehousing 50. - The
cover 44 is pivotally mounted on thebase plate 45 by apin 57 having asmall diameter portion 57a. Anopening coil spring 65 is mounted in the roundedportion 53 at an end portion adjacent to therounded portion 56a. Therounded portions cover 44 are engaged with the roundedportion 53. Thepin 57 is inserted into the roundedpotions small diameter portion 57a of thepin 57 is inserted into therounded portion 56a. - Describing the method of coupling the buckle, the
cover 44 is inserted into an opening between the engaginglink 69 and the connectinglink 67 of thesecond link 43 and the engaginglink 69 is put on thebase plate 45. Thecover 44 is rotated to thehousing 50 so that the engaginglugs 54 of the cover are inserted into thenotches 52 of the housing. The undersides of the engaginglugs 54 are engaged with theslants 61a of the engagingprojections 61 of therespective push plates 58 to inwardly push theprojections 61 against the elastic force of thespring 64. When thelugs 54 pass theslants 61a, the engagingprojections 61 are returned by thespring 64 and engaged with the engaging holes 55. Thus, thecover 44 is locked to thebase plate 45 to couple the first andsecond links - In order to disengage the
buckle 40, the manipulatingprojections 59 are pushed at the same time to disengage the engagingprojections 61 from the engagingholes 55 of the engaginglugs 54. Similarly to the first embodiment, since an outer end of thespring 65 is abutted on the underside of thecover 44 so as to urge it in the upward direction, thecover 44 is automatically opened. - Referring to Fig. 11 showing the third embodiment, a
buckle 70 of the third embodiment is for a lady's watch band having a small width. Thebuckle 70 comprises afirst link 72 connected to a first band member of a watch band, asecond link 73 connected to a second band member, abase plate 75 mounted on thefirst link 72, and acover 74 pivotally mounted on thebase plate 75. - The
first link 72 and thesecond link 73 are the same in configuration formed into a Y-shape in plane. Each link comprises a pair of side frames and a connecting lug. Thefirst link 72 has ahole 72a formed on the connecting lug to be engaged with a pin for connecting the band andrectangular openings 76 formed on the side frames. Thesecond link 73 has ahole 73a on the connecting lug for a pin of the other band and alateral engaging rod 100 provided between the side frames. - Referring to Figs. 12 and 13, the
base plate 75 has ahousing 77 and arounded portion 79 which are formed in the same manners as the previous embodiments. Anotch 78 is formed in a central portion of thehousing 77. - A pair of
push plates housing 77. As shown in Fig. 12, thepush plate 80 comprises a manipulatingprojection 80a, astep portion 80b, alower plate portion 82 extending from thestep portion 80b, anotch 82a formed on a side of thelower plate portion 82, an engagingprojection 84 provided in thenotch 82a having adownward slant 84a. Thepush plate 81 comprises a manipulatingprojection 81a, anotch 81b, anupper plate portion 83, anotch 83a formed on a side of theupper plate portion 83, and an engagingprojection 85 having adownward slant 85a. - In assembling, as shown in Fig. 13, the
upper plate portion 83 of thepush plates 81 is mounted on thelower plate portion 82 of thepush plate 80 to be slidably engaged with each other. Thenotches projections notch 78 of thehousing 77 at theslants return spring 86 is disposed between thestep portion 80b of thepush plate 80 and thenotch 81b of thepush plate 81. Astopper pin 88 is inserted into thehousing 77 through a hole 89 (Fig. 14) formed in thebase plate 75 and inserted in a space between thenotches stopper pin 88 is secured to thebase plate 75 at thehole 89 by staking the pin. Thus, thepush plates housing 77. - The
cover 74 comprises an engaginglug 90 formed on an end portion thereof corresponding to thenotch 78 of thehousing 77 and a pair of connectinglugs 92 each having ahole 92a. The engaginglug 90 has ahook 91 and a pair ofslants 91a formed on opposite sides of thelug 90. - The
cover 74 is pivotally mounted on thebase plate 75 by apin 94. Acollar 93 and acoil spring 95 are mounted in the roundedportion 79 in the same manner as the first embodiment. The connecting lugs 92 of thecover 74 are engaged with the roundedportion 79 and thepin 94 is inserted into thehole 92a of the connectinglug 92,spring 95,collar 93 and theother lug 92 in order. Thecover 74 is outwardly urged by thespring 95 to be opened. - In use of the buckle, the
cover 74 is inserted into an opening behind the engagingrod 100 of thesecond link 73. The engagingrod 100 is put on thebase plate 75 and thecover 74 is rotated to thehousing 77 so that the engaginglug 90 of the cover is inserted into thenotch 78 of the housing. Theslants 91a of thehook 91 are engaged with theslants projections respective push plates projections spring 86. When thehook 91 passes theslants projections spring 86 and engaged with thehook 91. Thus, thecover 74 is locked to thebase plate 75 as shown in Figs. 14 and 15. - The
buckle 70 is disengaged in the same manner as the previous embodiments. Namely, the manipulatingprojections projections hook 91. Since the end of thespring 95 is abutted on the underside of thecover 74 so as to urge it in the upward direction, thecover 74 is automatically opened. - In accordance with the present invention, stopping means for the push plates are not exposed, the appearance of the buckle is improved. Since the housing is formed integral with the base plate, the thickness of the buckle is reduced.
- In the third embodiment, the push plates are partially overlapped with each other and the engaging projections are provided on the overlapped portions. Thus, the width of the buckle is reduced to be available for the lady's watch having a small width.
Claims (7)
- A buckle for a watch band having a first band member (32) and a second band member (33), the buckle having a first link (2) connected to the first band member, a second link (3) having an engaging link and connected to the second band member, a base plate (5) secured to said first link, a housing (11) formed on a part of said base plate, a pair of push plates (18) provided in the housing so as to be moved in a lateral direction with respect to a longitudinal direction of said watch band, each of said push plates having an engaging projection (21) and a slant (21a) formed on the engaging projection, spring means (24) for urging each of said push plates in an outward direction, stopping means (10) provided for stopping each of said push plates urged by said spring means at a position where an outer end of the push plate is projected from the first link, a cover (8) pivotally connected to an end of said base plate, characterized in thatthe stopping means (10) is provided on a member provided in the housing so that members of the stopping means do not appear from an upper surface of the housing,engaging lug means (14) is provided on an underside of said cover;
said cover is provided such that each engaging lug means is engaged with said engaging projections of said push plates;an opening spring (27) is provided between said base plate and said cover for urging the cover to an open position. - The buckle according to claim 1 wherein
said housing is formed by bending the base plate. - The buckle according to claim 1 wherein
said engaging lug means of said cover comprises a pair of lugs, each of the lugs has a slant to be engaged with said slant of the engaging projection of the push plate. - The buckle according to claim 1 wherein
said engaging lug means comprises a pair of lugs, each of the lugs has an engaging hole to be engaged with said engaging projection of said push plate. - The buckle according to claim 1 wherein
said engaging lug means comprises an engaging lug having a hook and a pair of slants formed on opposite sides thereof. - The buckle according to claim 1 wherein
said stopping means comprises a stopper plate having a pair of projections to be engaged with said push plates. - The buckle according to claim 1 wherein
said stopping means comprises a pair of stopper plates formed by cutting the plate of the housing.
