If cargo container 50 in Figure 5 were of non-standard length it would therefore require the lift fitting 10 of the present invention to be positioned inboard from the corners of the cargo container, to render the container capable of being lifted, moved and lowered by use of cranes, lifting structures and the like which are designed for use with standard size containers.

  • spigot 40 can be welded to outer post 59 along vertical weld line 59a, to inner post 57 along horizontal weld line 57a adjacent spigot shoulder 65, and optionally by weld 61a to stiffener 61 formed through a slot in inner post 57.
  • Figure 1b is a horizontal sectional view showing the assembly of the post 55 from outer post 59, inner post 57 and stiffener plate 61, which forms a socket into which spigot 40 can be received as a rigid mounting, and which is then welded in position.

  • Arms 81 and 83 of internal post 57 are then in intimate contact with outer post 59 through the entire longitudinal length which is approximately equal to the height of the container. Arms 81 and 83 are then secured to outer post 59 by means of longitudinal welds 85.
  • An optional securing point is located at the surface to surface contact of lower end 87 of downwardly depending spigot 40 and the upper surface of stiffener post 61. This optional weld can be accomplished by cutting an aperture in interior post 57 at this location to effect the weld, and then effecting the closure of the aperture.
  • Lift fitting 10 having depending spigot 40, when secured to vertical support post 55 in the manner described, ensures the integrity of a cargo container of non-standardised length when lift fitting 10 is mounted inboard from the corners of such container by allocating the stress and load factors and dispersing said stress and load factors throughout vertical support post 55 as opposed to concentrating the stress and load factors at the contact point of a vertical support post with a standard lift fitting.
  • This structure also avoids the internal bracing which decreases the capacity of the container.
  • FIG. 26 there is illustrated with respect to lift fitting 10 an optional support positioned within chamber 26.
  • This optional support comprises two triangular shaped gussets 90 which can provide additional support for lift fitting 10 without interfering with the crane lifting mechanism inserted into chamber 26 by means of aperture 28.
  • These internal gussets 90 within chamber 26 of lift fitting 10 are optional, and are not essential to the invention.

Claims (7)

  1. Conteneur de marchandises à corps allongé (50) présentant des rails de support horizontaux supérieurs et inférieurs (52) reliés à des montants de support verticaux (54) afin de former une structure de support rigide du conteneur sur la paroi duquel un gainage est assemblé, et des accessoires de levage (10) montés sur les rails de support (52) afin de permettre au conteneur d'être déplacé par un accessoire de levage, lesdits accessoires de levage comprenant ;
    un corps (12) présentant une surface supérieure (22), une surface inférieure (24), une surface d'extrémité intérieure (16), une surface d'extrémité extérieure (14) et des parois latérales parallèles (18 ; 20) ; et une chambre (26) définie dans ledit corps et en communication avec ladite surface supérieure par l'intermédiaire d'une ouverture d'entrée (28) afin de recevoir un élément de mise en prise dudit accessoire de levage :
    caractérisé en ce qu'un ensemble desdits accessoires de levage (10) est monté sur les rails de support horizontaux supérieurs (52) au niveau d'emplacements respectifs à l'intérieur des angles du conteneur de telle sorte que l'ensemble d'accessoires puisse être mis en prise par un dispositif de levage standard existant, tel qu'une grue, destiné à être utilisé avec des conteneurs d'une conception standard, chaque accessoire de levage présentant un tourillon d'une seule pièce (40) dépendant du corps (12) et positionné sur ladite surface inférieure (24) adjacente à ladite surface d'extrémité extérieure (14) ;
    et en ce que chaque tourillon (40) est fixé à un élément de support vertical respectif (55) du conteneur qui est situé à mi-chemin entre les extrémités du conteneur.
  2. Conteneur selon la revendication 1, caractérisé en ce que ledit corps (12) de chaque accessoire de levage (10) est fixé à un rail respectif desdits rails de support horizontaux (52) du conteneur (50) par des joints de soudure reliant ledit rail de support (52) auxdites parois latérales (18, 20) du corps (12).
  3. Conteneur selon la revendication 1 ou 2, caractérisé en ce que chaque tourillon (40) est fixé au support vertical respectif (55) par des joints de soudure (57a, 59a, 61a).
  4. Conteneur selon l'une quelconque des revendication 1 à 3, caractérisé en ce que lu surface tournée vers l'intérieur de chaque tourillon (40) possède un épaulement à gradins (65) qui se met en prise avec le support vertical respectif (55).
  5. Conteneur selon la revendication 4, caractérisé en ce que la surface tournée vers l'extérieur dudit tourillon (40) est plane et en creux à partir de ladite surface d'extrémité extérieure (14) du corps (12).
  6. Conteneur selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 5, caractérisé en ce que ledit support vertical (55) comprend un montant intérieur (57), un montant extérieur (59) et une pièce de renfort (61), ledit montant intérieur (57) étant fixé audit épaulement à gradins (65) dudit tourillon (40), ledit montant extérieur (59) étant fixé à la surface tournée vers l'extérieur dudit tourillon, et ladite pièce de renfort (61) étant fixée à l'extrémité inférieure dudit tourillon (40).
  7. Conteneur selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 6, caractérisé en ce que ladite chambre (26) de chaque corps (12) possède des raidisseurs de renforcement (90) positionnés sur l'intérieur de la chambre, et s'étendant entre ladite surface d'extrémité extérieure (14) et ladite surface inférieure (24).
