Definitions
- the invention relates to a method for producing ceramic moldings from a free-flowing mass between at least two upper and lower tool parts delimiting a mold cavity, mass being introduced under pressure between the coating on the upper tool part and the membrane on the lower tool part, and the material being supplied and supplied displacing air escapes through a ventilation gap.
- the invention further relates to a device for producing moldings from a free-flowing mass according to the preamble features of claim 4.
- a press has become known from German Patent 31 28 347, in which the free-flowing mass passes via a shooting head into the shooting chamber evacuated before the filling process, which is also a mold cavity.
- air is drawn off through an annular gap which runs axially between the upper die and the locking ring and merges into the vacuum line of the locking ring, which is followed by a vacuum generator with a machine-controlled valve.
- the locking ring and the die can be moved relative to one another for the purpose of one or more pre-pressings, the annular gap cannot be set specifically to different gap widths.
- the object of the invention is therefore to propose a method and a device for producing ceramic moldings, in which or in which the venting of the mold cavity and thus the setting of the venting gap can be adjusted to different requirements with regard to the end product or the pourable mass to be processed.
- the granulate is injected with compressed air to fill the mold cavity.
- the compressed air used as a means of transport escapes via the ventilation gap into a ventilation channel arranged in a ring outside the actual mold cavity for the ceramic molding.
- the ventilation gap is normally set to a passage of 0.3 mm.
- the same procedure may be necessary if the granulate has increased free-flowing properties due to low moisture or a smoother surface and therefore also tends to emerge in an undesired amount through the ventilation gap.
- the ventilation gap may be necessary to keep the ventilation gap larger than 0.3 mm. This can occur especially when granules with very high moisture or poor flowability are used.
- a ventilation gap that is too small can e.g. lead to air pockets in the article, with cracks in the foot area or flaking in the area of the shelf.
- an excessively large ventilation gap can, under certain circumstances, result in an unevenly filled mold cavity and thus uneven article thicknesses.
- the device according to the invention also makes it possible to axially adjust the support of the back of the membrane to adjust the body thickness, without doing so as before the vent gap is influenced. If the support is set back by 1 mm in order to obtain a larger mold cavity, the ring-shaped adjustable insert on the support part can also be moved forward by this amount. This ensures that the optimally determined and set conditions at the ventilation gap do not change. At the same time, the lower part of the isostatic pressing tool can be used for the production of further molded articles, provided that these have the same contour on the underside of the molded article.
- this setting process can also be carried out automatically — without dismantling the membrane tool part — by correcting the position of the membrane or the coating in the venting gap area by means of a hydraulic or functionally identical unit to the corresponding setting value.
- a pulse generator for changing the ventilation gap e.g. Initiators may be provided in the vent line which, by recognizing or rather not recognizing the escape of mass, indicate an insufficiently filled mold cavity and thus cause a vent gap correction.
- the closure for the filling channel is formed by a filling slide 38, which prevents mass from being pushed back into the filling channel and compressed during the pressing process. Since air also enters the mold cavity 32 with the mass, this air must be given a way to escape.
- This ventilation gap 40 lies between the outer edge of the membrane 18 and the coating 16 and merges into one or more ventilation channels.
- the support part 24 is provided with an insert 42 in the form of a threaded ring. In interaction with the external thread on the support part 24, the membrane 18 is raised if necessary and the ventilation gap is narrowed. A plurality of screws 44 are used in the insert 42 as a safeguard against independent rotation.
- FIGS. 2 and 3 Two different settings are shown for the ventilation gap in FIGS. 2 and 3. If the ventilation gap 40 is still open in FIG. 2 and is connected by means of an annular channel 46, the nearly closed position is shown in FIG. 3.
- the axial position of the insert 50 can be changed via six screws 48 distributed over the circumference. The distance between insert 50 and support surface 52 is fixed with grub screws, not shown.
- the ventilation gap 40 is set from the membrane side.
- the ring-shaped insert 54 lies with its downward sloping surface 56 on a wedge 58 which is movable radially to the supporting part 24.
- the wedge 58 which is also ring-shaped or, as shown in FIG.
- the device for adjusting the venting gap 40 is assigned to the upper tool part 12.
- a ring element 60 in the gap area presses the coating 16 downwards and narrows it the gap width.
- the ring element 60 can be adjusted here by means of a screw 62, a hydraulic piston-cylinder unit can also perform this task independently of or dependent on the pressure medium of the diaphragm.
- the screw 62 can be adjusted by a threaded ring 66 mounted with plate springs 64.
- the plate springs 64 absorb the pressure which acts on the coating 16 during the isostatic pressing.
- the air from the mold cavity 32 escapes through the ventilation gap 40 via the annular channel 46 and the line 68.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method for producing ceramic moldings from a free-flowing mass between at least two upper and lower tool parts delimiting a mold cavity, mass being introduced under pressure between the coating on the upper tool part and the membrane on the lower tool part, and the material being supplied and supplied displacing air escapes through a ventilation gap.
The invention further relates to a device for producing moldings from a free-flowing mass according to the preamble features of claim 4.
To carry out such a method, a press has become known from German Patent 31 28 347, in which the free-flowing mass passes via a shooting head into the shooting chamber evacuated before the filling process, which is also a mold cavity. To evacuate the mold cavity, air is drawn off through an annular gap which runs axially between the upper die and the locking ring and merges into the vacuum line of the locking ring, which is followed by a vacuum generator with a machine-controlled valve. Although the locking ring and the die can be moved relative to one another for the purpose of one or more pre-pressings, the annular gap cannot be set specifically to different gap widths.
The object of the invention is therefore to propose a method and a device for producing ceramic moldings, in which or in which the venting of the mold cavity and thus the setting of the venting gap can be adjusted to different requirements with regard to the end product or the pourable mass to be processed.
This object is achieved according to the invention by the characterizing features of claims 1 and 4. Further features according to the invention emerge from the characterizing parts of the subclaims.
This creates the possibility, depending on the requirements for the ceramic end product or the condition and the nature of the ceramic mass to be used, to adjust pressing tools to changed circumstances without mechanical machining. This manifests itself in the fact that the venting gap, through which the mold cavity is vented during the filling with ceramic free-flowing material in the form of granules and during the semi-isostatic pressing process, can be adapted to the respective requirements. This becomes necessary if granules with different grain size spectra are used with significantly fluctuating moisture or free-flowing properties. The grain spectrum of approx. 93% of the granulate is between 0.1 - 0.5 mm, the rest is less than 0.1 mm to dusty.
The granulate is injected with compressed air to fill the mold cavity. The compressed air used as a means of transport escapes via the ventilation gap into a ventilation channel arranged in a ring outside the actual mold cavity for the ceramic molding. The ventilation gap is normally set to a passage of 0.3 mm. When the granulate is shot in, granules larger than 0.3 mm cannot pass through the ventilation gap and lie in front of it. They form a kind of filter through which only dust and air can escape.
Even at the beginning of the isostatic pressing process, air can still escape through this combination of filling gap and granulate filter. If granulate is used, which has a very large proportion of grains with a diameter of less than 0.3 mm, it would start an undesirably large part of it escaping through the filling gap. Only when enough grains larger than 0.3 mm at the filling gap cause the filter effect would an increased escape of granules through the ventilation gap be prevented. In order to counteract the negative effects of too fine a granulate, the filling gap can now be narrowed by means of the device according to the invention and thus an increased escape of granulate can be prevented.
The same procedure (reduction of the filling gap) may be necessary if the granulate has increased free-flowing properties due to low moisture or a smoother surface and therefore also tends to emerge in an undesired amount through the ventilation gap.
Conversely, it may be necessary to keep the ventilation gap larger than 0.3 mm. This can occur especially when granules with very high moisture or poor flowability are used.
It is always desirable to vent the granulate optimally, since it has a direct effect on the length of time it takes to fill the mold cavity and also determines the quality of the article. A ventilation gap that is too small can e.g. lead to air pockets in the article, with cracks in the foot area or flaking in the area of the shelf. On the other hand, an excessively large ventilation gap can, under certain circumstances, result in an unevenly filled mold cavity and thus uneven article thicknesses.
The device according to the invention also makes it possible to axially adjust the support of the back of the membrane to adjust the body thickness, without doing so as before the vent gap is influenced. In the case of standardized articles, for example plates of a certain size, several shapes can be produced here simply by exchanging the coated part of the upper tool with the same membrane tool part, since the width of the ventilation gap can be adjusted for every need. This option shortens above all the changeover time of the pressing tools when the mold is changed frequently. This can be done in accordance with the characterizing features of the device set-up by manually setting an annular insert in the area of the venting gap.
According to a development of the device according to the invention, however, this setting process can also be carried out automatically — without dismantling the membrane tool part — by correcting the position of the membrane or the coating in the venting gap area by means of a hydraulic or functionally identical unit to the corresponding setting value. For monitoring or as a pulse generator for changing the ventilation gap, e.g. Initiators may be provided in the vent line which, by recognizing or rather not recognizing the escape of mass, indicate an insufficiently filled mold cavity and thus cause a vent gap correction.
Embodiments of the invention are shown in the drawings, wherein the devices shown as horizontal can also be used in a vertical position.

The closure for the filling channel is formed by a filling
In Fig. 6, the device for adjusting the venting
