Man erreicht so eine Regulierung der Flanschenelastizität bei gegebener Ringelastizität. Auch nach einer Verformung stellt sich der Sicherheitsspannring weitgehend in die Kreisform zurück. Die durch die Quereinschnitte gebildeten Abschnitte können sich gesondert bewegen und verformen. Es ist durch die einzelnen Abschnitte immer eine Zusammenpressung der Randstege des Gebindes gewährleistet. Fallversuche haben eine erhöhte Dichtigkeit der Gebinde nachgewiesen, so daß der Sicherheitsring auch für flüssigen Inhalt des Gebindes verwendbar ist. Der Sicherheitsring besteht aus Spaltband mit einer Sendzimirverzinkung von 275 g/m². Für höhere Festigkeitsanforderung hat sich ein Stahlwerkstoff als günstig erwiesen, der eine Streckgrenze >300 N/mm², eine Zugfestigkeit >500 N/mm² und eine Bruchdehnung von 25 bis 30 % hat.
