  • Examples 17-19 employed Southern hardwood kraft pulp having a Kappa of 14.9. Table 3 also shows the properties of the resultant bleached pulps of these examples. These pulps showed high viscosity and good brightness values as well as relatively low TOCl values employing total chlorine dioxide amounts less than the total chlorine dioxide amounts employed in obtaining substantially equivalent brightness and viscosity values for softwood pulp. For either softwood or hardwood pulps, the total chlorine dioxide employed in these Examples 14-19 is substantially less than the total chlorine dioxide employed to obtain equivalent brightness and viscosity values without employing ozone after chlorination.
  • Table 5 shows the adsorbed organic halogens (AOX) generated in the bleaching stages of the sequences of Examples 1-3, 9, 11 and 14.

Claims (5)

  1. Verfahren zur Behandlung von Kraftpulpe bei der Vorbereitung für ihre Verwendung bei der Papierherstellung, umfassend die Schritte:
    Kontaktieren der dispergierten Pulpe in einem wäßrigen Medium mit einer Anfangsmenge eines Bleichmittels auf Chlorbasis, ausgewählt aus der Gruppe, bestehend aus Chlordioxid und Gemischen von Chlordioxid und Chlor, worin das gesamte in dem Einsatzmaterial vorliegende Chlordioxid, zwischen etwa 100 % und etwa 50 % des gesamten Einsatzmaterials, ausgedrückt als wirksames Chlor, entspricht, wobei der Rest des Einsatzmaterials Chlor ist, wobei das Bleichmittel eine nennenswerte Menge Chlor enthaltender Komponenten erzeugt, die in einem sauren Medium unlöslich sind,
    danach und vor einer dazwischen liegenden Behandlung der Pulpe, die von einer optionalen Wäsche verschieden ist, Kontaktieren der Pulpe mit Ozon, wobei das Ozon in einer Menge vorliegt, die ein Verhältnis von "C"-Faktor zu Prozent Ozon, basierend auf dem Trockengewicht von Pulpe, von zwischen etwa 0,03 und etwa 0,6 für eine Zeitdauer ergibt, die ausreichend ist, um zu bewirken, daß das Ozon nennenswerte Mengen der Chlor enthaltenden Komponenten oxidiert und dieselben in dem sauren Medium der Pulpe löslich macht, worin die Gesamtmenge von Chlordioxid und/oder Chlor, die auf die Pulpe angewendet wird, ausreichend ist, um einen "C"-Faktor von größer als etwa 0,04 und weniger als etwa 0,20, basierend auf der ofengetrockneten Pulpe, zu ergeben,
    danach Abtrennen der solubilisierten Chlor enthaltenden Komponenten von der Pulpe, und
    wobei eine Pulpe erhalten wird mit wesentlich geringerem Chlorgehalt, im wesentlichen ohne Tetrachlordibenzodioxin, im wesentlichen ohne Tetrachlordibenzofuran und im wesentlichen äquivalentem Weißgrad und äquivalenter Viskosität wie die gleiche Pulpe, die unter Verwendung herkömmlicher Bleichsequenzen auf Chlorbasis gebleicht wurde.
  2. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, worin das Abtrennen der solubilisierten Chlor enthaltenden Komponenten von der Pulpe, Waschen der Pulpe mit einem wäßrigen Medium umfaßt.
  3. Verfahren nach Anspruch 2 und umfassend die weitere und nachfolgende Behandlung der gewaschenen Pulpe mit einer alkalischen Extraktion.
  4. Verfahren nach Anspruch 3, umfassend den Schritt des Verbesserns der Extraktion durch die Zugabe von Sauerstoff, Peroxid oder einer Kombination davon.
  5. Verfahren nach Anspruch 3 und umfassend die weitere und nachfolgende Behandlung der Pulpe mit Chlordioxid.
