Die Erfindung bezieht sich auf einen insbesondere als Nockendrehschalter ausgebildeten mehrpoligen Stufenschalter mit mehreren Hauptkontakten, z.B. zur stufenweisen Parallel- und Reihenschaltung von Heizwiderständen. Derartige Schalter werden in großem Umfange zur Kochplattenregelung bei Herden benutzt. Außer den zu diesem Zweck früher üblichen Siebentakt-Regelschaltungen, bei denen ein Phasenwechsel noch vermieden werden konnte (z.B. DE-C-1 239 034) sind neuerdings Mehrtaktregelschaltungen mit 12 oder mehr Stufenschaltstellungen gebräuchlich, bei denen ein Phasenwechsel beim Umschalten zwischen bestimmten Stufen nicht mehr vermeidbar ist. Bei einem solchen Phasenwechsel wird ein an eine Phase (oder den Nulleiter) angeschlossener Hauptkontakt umgelegt auf ein Kontaktstück, das vorher mit einem Hauptkontakt belegt war, der an eine andere Phase (oder Nulleiter) angeschlossen war. Da diese Schaltfunktion für beide Drehrichtungen zutreffen muß, läßt sich diese Schaltung nicht einfach durch feste Relativanordnung der Nocken für Haupt- und Hilfskontakte verwirklichen. Stattdessen ist zweckmäßigerweise nach der Erfindung eine Kupplung zwischen den Schaltorganen für Haupt- und Hilfskontakte vorgesehen, welche eine Totgangverbindung aufweist, die in beiden Drehrichtungen wirksam wird.
