Definitions
- the invention relates to an arrangement for the photoelectrical monitoring of the movement of webs or sheets, in particular paper webs in rotary printing machines with a light source and a scanning device comprising a light-sensitive receiver and an evaluation and control unit from which subsequent operations of the printing machine can be derived.
- Commonly used arrangements for monitoring running webs include diffuse sensors, ultrasonic sensors or video camera systems.
- a photoelectric monitoring device in which cracks on the paper are detected by means of diffuse sensors, further processed by an evaluation device and signaled to derive subsequent operations of the printing press.
- Diffuse sensors have the advantage of recognizing height movements of the running web, but do not have the necessary resolution to detect even narrow web tears that are less than 10 mm in size. This also applies to ultrasonic sensors. In any case, it is therefore only possible to a limited extent to recognize total breaks announced in advance by small web breaks. Another disadvantage is the fact that such an arrangement is only very uncomfortably adaptable to product-dependent changes in web width.
- the object of the present invention to provide a generic arrangement for the photoelectric monitoring of running webs or sheets, which is designed to save space in the area of the monitoring point and can also be arranged in the tightest of spaces and has sufficient resolution to also include web tears or holes that are less than 10 mm in size, so that errors can be displayed within a very short time and countermeasures can be taken to prevent damage to the machine.

- the individual optical fibers 4 of the glass fiber optics 3 are combined, on the one hand, transversely to the running paper web 1 in an optical fiber line 5, which is wider than the paper web 1 and thus has optical fibers 4 in the manner shown, which look left and right over the edges of the paper web 1 .
- the optical fibers 4 are bundled in a cross-sectional converter 6 and illuminate a CCD sensor chip 7 integrated in the scanning device 2.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to an arrangement for the photoelectrical monitoring of the movement of webs or sheets, in particular paper webs in rotary printing machines with a light source and a scanning device comprising a light-sensitive receiver and an evaluation and control unit from which subsequent operations of the printing machine can be derived.
With running webs, e.g. Paper webs in the printing process, in particular in the course of the ever increasing web speeds, have become necessary to recognize defects on the web such as total breaks, narrow breaks at the edge or in the web or holes over a certain size as early as possible in order to initiate suitable measures that prevent machine damage.
As is well known, web breaks in rotary printing presses, if the machine is not shut down quickly enough, can lead to serious damage to the printing units due to what are known as winders, which not only force longer interruptions in operation, but also cause considerable costs.
Commonly used arrangements for monitoring running webs include diffuse sensors, ultrasonic sensors or video camera systems.
However, video camera systems have problems with the vertical movement of the running web, since this signals apparent web width fluctuations. For this reason, the video camera must be mounted at a large distance from the paper web. This results in a comparatively large space requirement and also prevents the error from being recognized as close as possible to the point of origin. This results in delay times that do not guarantee satisfactory response speeds from efficient security systems, such as a paper catcher or a shutdown of the machine.
From DE-PS 33 05 606, for example, a photoelectric monitoring device has become known, in which cracks on the paper are detected by means of diffuse sensors, further processed by an evaluation device and signaled to derive subsequent operations of the printing press. Diffuse sensors have the advantage of recognizing height movements of the running web, but do not have the necessary resolution to detect even narrow web tears that are less than 10 mm in size. This also applies to ultrasonic sensors. In any case, it is therefore only possible to a limited extent to recognize total breaks announced in advance by small web breaks. Another disadvantage is the fact that such an arrangement is only very uncomfortably adaptable to product-dependent changes in web width.
Proceeding from this, it is therefore the object of the present invention to provide a generic arrangement for the photoelectric monitoring of running webs or sheets, which is designed to save space in the area of the monitoring point and can also be arranged in the tightest of spaces and has sufficient resolution to also include web tears or holes that are less than 10 mm in size, so that errors can be displayed within a very short time and countermeasures can be taken to prevent damage to the machine.
To achieve this object, a scanner is proposed according to the invention in an arrangement of the type mentioned, which has a glass fiber optic in which individual optical fibers are arranged on the one hand transversely to the running paper web in an optical fiber line which is wider than the paper web and on the other hand the optical fibers in one Cross-sectional transducers are bundled in such a way that a CCD sensor chip integrated in the scanning device can be illuminated in terms of picture elements. The CCD sensor chip is connected to the image evaluation and control unit. The light source is arranged opposite the glass fiber optics in the manner transverse to the running paper web, so that it is wider than the paper web, the paper web runs between the light source and the glass fiber optics, and thus the paper web can be projected onto the optical waveguide line.

In Fig. 1, 1 denotes the paper web running perpendicular to the plane of the drawing. A
Advantageously, the
The cross-sectional converter 6 has the function of converting the positions 8 (1-N) of the
The
An advantageous further development and expedient embodiment of the higher-level device measures can be seen in the fact that, as shown in the exemplary embodiment, a plurality of reflective light scanners for detecting a height movement of the running
On the side of the
Thus, when monitoring the running
The image evaluation and control unit 9 essentially comprises an image recording part and a microprocessor for image processing. In a one-time calibration process, the assignment of the optical waveguide positions 8 (1-N) to the pixels (1-M) of the
The image evaluation and control unit 9 also has
Fig. 2 zeigt nochmals die erfindungsgemäße Anordnung in ihrem prinzipiellen mechanischen Aufbau. Fig. 2 shows again the arrangement according to the invention in its basic mechanical structure. In a
Fig. 3 zeigt ein Anwendungsbeispiel einer erfindungsgemäßen Anordnung.
