Description
- The invention relates to an improved carding assembly of the tandem type, constituted by two successive cards, the first of which is fed by an introduction cylinder and a feed cylinder or taker-in interacting with the first main cylinder, with which there are associated a number of carding flats and a first stripper or doffer cylinder; the second of the cards comprises a second main cylinder fed with the fibres of the first card and with which there are associated a number of carding flats and a second stripper or doffer cylinder, in turn associated with a web removing assembly.
- One aim of the invention is to produce a carding assembly which is suitable for effectively working a number of types of fibres and to offer a comparatively much more limited space requirement in relation to conventional tandem carding assemblies. These and other aims and advantages will be clear from reading the text which follows.
- Essentially, according to a first subject of the invention, in the carding assembly, the stripper or doffer cylinder of the first card works with the second main cylinder also, rotating more slowly but in the same direction as the two main cylinders; moreover, a stripper/feed cylinder is provided to interact simultaneously with said doffer cylinder and with the second main cylinder, rotating in the opposite direction to these and being located below them. The arrangement is such that the material originating from the first main cylinder is yielded by the first doffer in part directly, with carding action, to the second main cylinder and in part to said stripper/feed cylinder, to be yielded by the latter in turn to said second main cylinder, and generally recycled.
- The doffer of the first card rotates in the same direction as the two main cylinders and in the opposite direction to the second doffer which strips the second main cylinder.
- A further subject of the invention is a process for working synthetic and natural textile fibres - in particular cotton and wool fibres - according to which the material worked by a first card is in part transferred - essentially parallelised - directly to the main cylinder of the second card by a first doffer which rotates in the same direction as the main cylinders of the two cards, while the fibres which are not yet parallelised are transferred by said first doffer to a stripper/feed cylinder which yields it back to the second main cylinder, upstream (in relation to the direction of rotation of said second main cylinder) of said first doffer, to be carded again by said first doffer; the fibres thus parallelised continue to the second main cylinder, while those not yet parallelised are again recycled by said first doffer to said stripper/feed cylinder and so forth, until parallelisation is complete; the parallelised fibres are transferred by the second main cylinder to the second doffer of the second card and to the web removing stripper.
- The flats of each of the main cylinders can be of any type, rotating or fixed.
- The invention will be better understood by following the description and the attached drawing which shows a non-limiting exemplary embodiment of the invention itself. In the drawing, a concise diagram of a tandem-type carding assembly produced according to the invention is illustrated.
- According to what is illustrated in the attached drawing, 1 indicates an introducer comprising an introducing
roller 1A which is tangent to a feed cylinder or taker-in 3 which rotates in a relatively slow manner in the direction indicated by the arrow and has the clothings inclined in the manner indicated in the drawing. 5 indicates a first main cylinder which belongs to a first card C1, the second card being indicated by C2. Themain cylinder 5 has the clothings inclined in the manner indicated in the drawing and rotates in the direction indicated by the arrow f5 at a peripheral speed which is relatively much higher than that of the taker-in 3, as a result of which the fed material is in part combed and loaded onto themain cylinder 5. In the upper part of themain cylinder 5, there is provided a series of carding flats which work with the clothing of the firstmain cylinder 5. There interacts with the first main cylinder 5 a first doffer 9 which rotates in a relatively slow manner in the same direction as themain cylinder 5 and which has clothings inclined in the manner indicated in the drawing. 11 indicates the second main cylinder of the second card C2, which is equipped with a clothing as indicated in the drawing and with a series of carding and parallelisingflats 13 of the same type as or of a different type to those 7. Characteristically, the doffer 9 picks up the material from the firstmain cylinder 5 and, rotating in the same direction as said first main cylinder and said secondmain cylinder 11, unloads at least partially the fibres to the secondmain cylinder 11. Characteristically, there is also provided a stripper/feed cylinder 15, the clothing of which - inclined in the manner indicated in the drawing - interacts with the first doffer 9 and with the secondmain cylinder 11; said stripper/feed cylinder rotates in the opposite direction to the two main cylinders and to the first doffer 9. The stripper/feed cylinder 15 has the function of stripping the doffer 9 of the fibres which it has still maintained on its own clothing after the partial unloading of the combed fibres to the secondmain cylinder 11; the stripper/feed cylinder 15 unloads the fibres picked up from the doffer 9 to the clothing of the secondmain cylinder 11 which thus takes them for working with the first doffer 9. The doffer 9 in part combs these fibres and in part takes them off from the secondmain cylinder 11 to deliver them again to the stripper/feed cylinder 15, thus making the fibres repeat the cycle until these are parallelised and drawn along by the clothings of the secondmain cylinder 11 to be worked by theflats 13 and then unloaded to asecond doffer 17 which delivers them to aweb removing assembly 19; this can be constituted by a stripper cylinder of thesecond doffer 17 or by another equivalent assembly of a type known per se. - Recapitulating what has been described, the characteristics of novelty are found between the two cards, that is to say between the doffer 9 and the
main cylinder 11, with the presence of the stripper/feed cylinder 15. - The carding of the card tandem with this stripper/
feed cylinder 15 and with the doffer 9 working between the twomain cylinders main cylinder 5 which is faster. Themain cylinder 5, crossing the flats 7, creates an action which cards and cleans the fibres, then deposits the fibres on the back of the doffer 9 located between the first card C1 and the second card C2. The doffer 9 - which rotates with the fibres in the opposite direction to thesecond doffer 17 of the second card C2 - meets themain cylinder 11 of the second card C2 with the teeth turned forwards and therefore themain cylinder 11 creates a carding action and picks up the parallelised and spaced-out fibres, taking them to meet with theflats 13 and with thedoffer 17 of the second card C2. - The fibres which remain on the doffer 9, which are not parallelised and spaced out, again meet the stripper/
feed cylinder 15 which cleans the doffer 9 perfectly and delivers these fibres to themain cylinder 11. Once loaded onto themain cylinder 11, these fibres - originating from the cylinder 15 - again meet the doffer 9 and a carding action is carried out on them: the fibres which are thus parallelised continue to themain cylinder 11 of final carding, while the few which have remained not parallel and not spaced out are transferred again onto the doffer 9 which delivers them back again to the stripper/feed cylinder 15, and in this way those few fibres to be spaced out and parallelised are recarded and transported on themain cylinder 11 of the second card C2. This may continue many times. With this system, therefore, only fibres which are perfectly parallelised and spaced out are picked up and transported from the second card C2. - With the system described, it is possible to construct cards with much smaller cylinders and with few carding flats, with the result that very united webs, that is to say bands are obtained, with very parallel fibres without neps, and a great increase in production is achieved. With this system it is thus possible to construct card tandems of small dimensions, with very small cylinders, few carding flats, a better quality and cleanness of the fibres and an increase in production. The above is fundamentally due to the function of the stripper/
feed cylinder 15 and of the doffer 9 interacting with the twomain cylinders - It will be understood that the drawing only shows an exemplary embodiment which is given only by way of practical demonstration of the invention, it being possible for this invention to vary in form and arrangement without thereby departing from the scope of the idea which forms the invention itself.
