Description

The invention relates to a circuit breaker that works at least with a thermal release. This should also be understood to mean other circuit breakers that work at least with a thermal release. Such circuit breakers are on the market in a wide variety of designs. You usually work with a switch lock, which can usually be released by a magnetic release and a thermal release, so that the switch contacts open. The drawn arc is usually extinguished in a quenching chamber.

The invention has for its object to develop a circuit breaker in which remote triggering is implemented in a particularly simple manner.

The solution of the described object is achieved according to the invention by a circuit breaker according to claim 1. Here, the thermal release with its thermally sensitive element is in thermally conductive contact with a PTC thermistor which can be applied to a voltage associated with suitable heating for a response of the thermally sensitive element . The thermal release can be designed in a simple manner as a bimetal. Another force translator can also replace the switch lock.

If the assigned voltage is applied to the PTC thermistor by remote tripping, it heats up to a value that triggers the thermal trigger. In the case of a bimetal, there is sufficient deflection, in the case of a switch lock, a pawl slides off the latching point and release the switch lock. Remote tripping can be effected by means of a component based on the principle of operation of a relay in the circuit breaker or by externally applying a suitable voltage to the PTC thermistor.

After reaching its tilting temperature, at which its resistance suddenly increases, the PTC thermistor limits the energy supply to the thermal release.

The PTC thermistor can be attached to a bimetal using a clip.

The invention will now be explained in more detail using an exemplary embodiment shown roughly schematically in the drawing:

A circuit breaker 1 works with a thermal release 2, in the exemplary embodiment a bimetal as a thermally sensitive element 9. In thermally conductive contact there is a PTC thermistor 3, to which a voltage associated with suitable heating can be applied by means of connecting lines 4. The PTC thermistor 3 is fastened to the bimetal by means of a holding clip 5. If the bimetal of the thermal release 2 deflects in the direction of deflection 6 at the response temperature, a pawl 8 can drop under the release force 7.

The circuit breaker according to the invention enables remote tripping with a simple structure. The usual existing components can be used for this. After reaching the tipping point of the PTC thermistor, there is only a low power requirement, with self-protection being provided for the triggering element. The thermal release is suitable for remote tripping using AC voltage or DC voltage. If AC voltage is applied to the PTC thermistor, this avoids the usual magnetic hum that is normally used with magnetic triggers that are set up for remote tripping.
