Definitions
- the present invention relates to a drilling tool according to the preamble of claim 1.
- Such a tool finds its application in the delayed expansion of existing wells over time or, on the contrary, in the immediate production of wide wells which are obtained by drilling with a conventional drilling tool.
- drill bit or tricone bit a narrower well outline which is immediately enlarged into a larger diameter well using a tool intended to widen a well according to the invention, which is combined with above conventional drilling tool.
- a drilling tool for widening a well can also be used in place of an eccentric drilling tool or a retractable drilling tool.
- the downhole enlarger is intended to be introduced and lowered into a well drilled to an initial diameter to a desired depth, from which the retractable arms are deployed to widen the well.
- Document US-A-4589504 discloses a tool for widening the bottom of a wellbore.
- the tool comprises a cylindrical body driven in rotation by a drill string, a control of a mechanism for opening the tool and two retractable arms.
- the body has a diametrical cavity passing right through it. In this cavity, the two eclipsable arms, articulated in the same longitudinal plane passing through the axis of rotation of the body of the tool, pivot around pivots perpendicular to this plane.
- the arms are folded back inside the tool body.
- the arms are raised laterally at 45 ° so as to present at the lower end of the arm a cutting edge of determined shape, profiled so as to obtain a hole profile (preferably a curved profile) for which the vertical reaction forces exerted by the ground on the arms, develop around the axis of rotation of the arm a moment of forces which tends to keep the arm extended and which compensates for the moment of forces tending to close the arms under the action horizontal lateral forces.
- the lubrication of the tool is ensured by a drilling fluid brought from the ground surface to the tool, using a conduit dug inside the drill rods.
- the drilling fluid is brought in the vicinity of the tool in the form of jets produced by calibrated nozzles, directed at the cutting edges.
- the opening of the arms is controlled hydraulically using the drilling fluid, by increasing the flow rate of the drilling fluid pumps.
- a predetermined value for example 70 bars or 7.106 Pa
- the spring opposes the displacement of the piston under the effect of hydraulic pressure and determines an equilibrium position.
- the piston drives a rack which engages a portion of pinion ensuring the raising of the arms.
- the arms are closed automatically as soon as the hydraulic pressure decreases by the fact that the precompressed spring ensures the raising of the piston.
- the disadvantage of this known tool lies in the fact that a significant force must be transmitted to the arm to allow it to move away from the body of the tool. This effort is transmitted to the arm through a single tooth in a notched place which weakens the arm.
- the implementation of the tool is dependent on the destructability of the rock and the tendency of the tool to deviate from its axis.
- a second drawback is the irregular shape of the enlarged well and the imprecision of the diameter obtained.
- the tool suffers from a lack of lateral stability and a lack of rigidity of the arms.
- the present invention aims to remedy these drawbacks. It offers a tool mechanically robust with interchangeable extendable arms resistant to wear and allowing precise width adjustment of the tool. It relates to a tool as described in the first paragraph of this memo. This tool is characterized by the characteristics of the characterizing part of claim 1.
- the guide member of the second flange is centered around the axis AA 'above.
- the axis of the stud is parallel to the axis of rotation of the tool and the guide member of the second flange is formed in an arc centered around the axis A, AT'.
- the guide member may be a groove made in the flange.
- the groove formed in an arc relative to the axis AA ′ has an inscribed angle between 2 and 90 °, preferably between 20 and 60 °.
- Each articulated curved arm bears at a first lower end around a first stud secured to the first flange.
- each cutting arm has the shape of a variable pitch propeller which spreads over an arc of about 200 ° around the core.
- the groove of the second flange is formed radially with respect to the axis of rotation of the tool.
- a particular opening mechanism consists of a helical gear, the helical thread of which has an angle of inclination of between 3 and 30 ° and which engages a satellite pinion with an axis of rotation parallel to that of the tool.
- the satellite pinion advantageously rotates an outer toothing ring which meshes with each arm and an internal toothing on which the satellite pinion of the tool meshes.
- a drilling tool As illustrated in FIG. 1, a drilling tool according to the invention, generally designated by the reference sign 1, comprises a hollow cylindrical body 2 delimited by a cylindrical surface bordered at its ends by metal flanges 4 and 5.
- the flanges serve as a mounting for a series of curved arms 3 running along the cylindrical surface.
- the metal flanges 4, 5 are integral with the cylindrical body 2 and are provided with threaded joints 28 to allow the assembly of the tool 1 with a train of rods (not shown.)
- the series of curved arms can include up to eight arms, the arms are distributed side by side at equal angular distance.
- Each curved arm has, for example, the shape of a variable-pitch helix which extends over an arc of about 200 ° around the cylindrical body.
- the arms are identical but are provided with cutting elements 6 distributed differently and they have the same propeller diameter.
- Each helical arm 3 has a square or rectangular section and is pivotally mounted with respect to a fixed pin 7 secured to the fixed flange 4.
- the first fixed stud 7 is fixed in a fixing hole 32 of the fixed flange 4.
- the second end of the helical arm is distant by a distance corresponding to the diameter of the propeller.
- the arms 3 are adjustable and can move away from the cylindrical surface by pivoting about an axis parallel to the axis of rotation of the drilling tool 1.
- the angular position of each helical arm 3 is controlled by angular displacement d 'a rotating ring 9 mounted against the second upper fixed flange 5 secured to the frame and driven by an opening mechanism 10 of the tool 1.
- the opening mechanism comprises for example a cam or a rotating ring 9 having an internal toothing 12 and on portions of external contour, an external toothing 13 centered on the axis of rotation LL ′ of the tool (see FIGS. 3 and 4).
- the internal toothing 12 meshes with a satellite pinion 14 with a helical thread whose axis of rotation is parallel to that of the tool.
- the helical thread of the satellite pinion 14 has an angle of inclination between 3 and 30 °.
- Each external toothing of the ring 9 meshes with the upper end of each arm 3 and forces the latter to rotate on itself by a portion of a turn around the axis AA ′, parallel to the axis of rotation LL ′ (figure 1).
- the angular displacement of the ring 9 is obtained using the satellite pinion 14 mounted on an axis parallel to that of the tool.
- the satellite pinion 14 is rotated by a non-rotary piston 16 moving a rod 36 provided with a helical gear 17.
- the piston 16 moves parallel to itself under the action of an increase in hydraulic pressure and forces the helical thread 17 of the rod 36 of the piston 16, which has an angle of inclination between 3 ° and 30 °, to be lowered without turning.
- the pinion 14 meshes with the internal toothing of a ring centered on the axis of rotation of the tool and causes the rotation of the ring which drives the stud 8 of the arm 3, mounted in a hole in the ring, to slide the along the curved groove 21 (see Figures 4 and 6.)
- the length of the cutting edge 15 gives a measure of the performance of the tool and determines inter alia the cutting speed and the longevity of the tool.
- the drilling tool according to the invention has a cutting edge at least three to five times longer than that formed by an end flange of an arm lateral in lateral extension.
- the cutting edge is formed by the useful portion of the helical arm 3 released beyond the initial diameter by the pivoting of the helical arm by a fraction of a turn on itself.
- the increase in the diameter of the drilling tool is fixed by the positioning of the first and second pins 7 and 8 at the lower and upper ends of the arms 3 and the length of the groove 21 of the flange 5.
- This groove 21 in an arc of circle has an inscribed angle between 2 and 120 °.
- the tool makes it possible to enlarge up to two and a half times the initial diameter with a gain of precision on the formed diameter, while the known systems allow only a similar diameter increase but are not very precise.
- the flanges are removably mounted. They can be replaced by a pair of flanges of increasing diameters in which are formed grooves 21 of different curvature and opening angle, so as to give the drilling tool a diameter which can vary within ranges of distinct values. .
- This tool opening mechanism makes it possible to quantify the increase in the diameter of the bottom of the well by controlling the angular position of the helical arms 3 (see FIG. 2).
- the lower part 18 is judiciously furnished with cutting elements 6 staggered along each of the cutting edges 15 according to the very precise criterion of radial density, so that all of the elements completely cover the bottom of the well and that each of them partially covers the wake of a previous element.
- a central channel 23 formed in the hollow cylindrical body 2 and extended by transverse and longitudinal channels 24, 25 formed in the flanges 4, 5 and the arms 3 conduct the fluid pressure drilling in nozzles 26 fixed to said flanges 4, 5 and arms 3 interconnected by tight seals 27.
- the nozzles 26 of each arm 3 are fixed on a lateral face 33 of the arm and are directed towards the elements of cut neighboring arms.
- the internal diameter of the cylindrical body 2 is chosen so as to ensure a flow speed of 10 to 15 m / s at the flow of drilling mud.
- the cylindrical mount is arranged so as to allow easy disassembly not only of the curved arms 3 but also of the flanges 4, 5.
- the arms 3 then constitute wearing parts.
- the interchangeable flanges which one chooses judiciously in a set of pairs of flanges of increasing diameters in which are provided fixing holes 32 and grooves 21 of different curvature and opening angle, attribute to the drilling tool increased flexibility, since each pair of flanges 4, 5 corresponds to a nominal diameter which can vary within a distinct range of values depending on the length of the groove of the second flange 5.
- the curved arms 3 can be used interchangeably with each pair of flanges 4, 5 for a whole range of wellbore widths.
- FIG. 7 illustrates a duplex assembly 28 of two widening tools 1 according to the invention, separated by a drill 29.
- the first tool is preceded by a drilling tool, for example a set stone drill bit 30, a crown or a tricone bit.
- the tool according to the invention constitutes a stabilizer of adjustable diameter which makes it possible to ensure precise and / or sensitive stabilization of the drilled well. It can also be used as a device for measuring, calibrating or probing the walls of the well.

Abstract
Description
- une zone inférieure de coupe apte à creuser un profil de fond de trou;
- une partie médiane dont tous les points sont équidistants de l'axe du puits de forage destiné à stabiliser l'outil dans le trou, la forme préconisée étant celle des stabilisateurs. Elle consiste en des portions de droite ou d'hélice à pas constant dont l'angle d'inclinaison atteint environ 35°, et en une partie verticale garnie généralement d'un revêtement anti-usure;
- la figure 1 est une vue schématique en élévation latérale d'un élargisseur de fond de puits à bras hélicoïdaux selon l'invention, en position repliée;
- la figure 2 est une vue en élévation latérale de l'élargisseur de fond de puits illustré à la figure 1, en position déployée;
- la figure 3 est une vue en coupe le long de la ligne II′ de la figure 1;
- la figure 4 est une vue en coupe transversale selon la ligne LL′ de l'élargisseur de fond de puits illustré à la figure 1;
- la figure 5 est une vue en coupe longitudinale selon la ligne IV-IV′ de la figure 4 d'une partie du corps de l'élargisseur en position déployée;
- 1) une partie inférieure de coupe 18 présentant une arête coupante 15 définie par le lieu des points d'intersection du profil de fond de trou et de la portion de cylindre centré sur l'axe AA′ engendrée par la rainure 21;
- 2) une partie médiane 19 dont tous les points sont équidistants de l'axe LL′ du puits de forage. Il s'agit avantageusement d'une section droite ou d'une hélice à pas constant dont l'angle d'inclinaison peut atteindre environ 35°. La partie médiane 19 s'inscrit pour toute sa hauteur dans une circonférence dont le diamètre correspond au puits élargi. La partie médiane 19 empêche ou limite tout mouvement transversal de l'outil élargisseur par rapport à l'axe du puits comme le ferait un stabilisateur de diamètre adéquat;
