Definitions
- the present invention relates to a device for sizing a paper tape, in particular a paper tape intended to cover cigarette filters.
- Such devices are known in the art; they generally consist of a plurality of rotating rollers, generally two, the first of which dips in a tank of semi-liquid glue driving it in order to form a flange just before the place where the two rollers are in contact by one of their generator, the glue necessary for gluing a strip of paper flowing while being in contact pressed against the second roll, being taken from said flange by said second roll and brought against the paper tape.
- the first roll will include several zones, those of them corresponding to the surfaces of the paper tape not to be glued being absolutely smooth and / or coated with a coating which does not allow the glue to adhere to it, whereas those corresponding to the surfaces to be glued have a surface condition such that glue can adhere to it, the glue is then taken from the flange and transmitted to the second roller so that it is transported by the latter on the corresponding surfaces to be glued from paper tape.
- a large and constant pressure must be ensured between the two rollers so that the glue is properly transferred from the gluing areas of the first roller to the outer surface of the second roller.
- the major drawback of such a device according to the prior art lies in the fact that the quality and the quantity of glue supplying the rod is not controlled, which can lead to poor quality of the gluing of the paper tape.
- the glue supply of the sausage is made continuously by the first roller while the second roller takes only part of the glue contained in the sausage to bring it against the tape; it follows that the excess glue escapes through the ends of the lower roller and falls back into the tank. It is the same when the transport of the paper tape is interrupted for any reason while the rollers continue to rotate in order to continue the mixing of the glue in the tray and to avoid drying out of the existing flange, while the tape of paper no longer removes glue from the second roll.
- the quality of the glue in the tank is inhomogeneous, consisting of glue coming directly from the glue supply and of glue having already passed through the flange.
- the adhesive contained in the flange is degraded by rolling the flange between the two rollers.
- the glue in the tank may tend to dry out or may receive dirt and debris from the rest of the machine. The combination of these various causes generates an unsatisfactory sizing of the paper tape.
- the device according to the invention has the elements having the characteristics mentioned in the characterizing parts of the claims.
- the gluing device according to the invention is now described from the appended drawing comprising a single figure representing a schematic perspective view of an embodiment of a device sizing according to the invention.
- the roller system 1 is composed of a first roller 10, of circular cylindrical shape, driven in rotation in the direction indicated by the arrow by means represented by 11, and of a second roller 12 of circular shape, driven in rotation in the direction indicated by the arrow by means represented by 13.
- the second roller 12 comprises a central cylindrical part 14 and two parts 15a and 15b located at the ends of the roller 12 and having a reduction in diameter relative to the diameter of the cylindrical part central 14.
- the two parts 15a and 15b are in the form of a truncated cone tapering towards the ends or else they may consist of two cylindrical bearing surfaces having a diameter less than that of the central part 14.
- the length of the cylindrical part 14 of the second roller 12 is less than the length of the first roller 10 and at least equal to the width of the paper tape 2.
- the paper tape 2 of which one or more zones of the underside 20 are to be glued circulates, on this portion of machine, between two rollers 21 and 22.
- the position of the axis of rotation of the roller 21 is fixed, while the axis of rotation of the roller 22 is mounted on a slide (not shown) and can be moved along said slide by the actuating means 23 which can be a cam device or a piston device, of known technique.
- the drive means 11 and 13 of the rollers 10 and 12 drive the said rollers at speeds such that the contact of one roller on the other takes place without sliding, these drive means 11 and 13 being regulated so that the ribbon 2 passes over the roller 12 without sliding.
- the drive means 11 and 13 consist of toothed wheels, driven by the general drive means of the machine (not shown).
- the rotational speeds of the two rollers 10 and 12 are proportional to each other and with the speed of the machine, the ratio of the number of teeth between the toothed wheels driving the rollers being chosen so that the two rollers roll one on the other. other without sliding.
- Auxiliary drive means are used when the speed of the machine is less than a certain value, as indicated below.
- the glue supply means 3 intended for making the glue strip 30, firstly comprise a storage tank (not shown) supplying one or more distribution pipes, preferably by one or more suitable pumps (not shown). two distribution pipes 31a and 31b as shown in the figure. In order to ensure a constant quality of the adhesive, it is checked during its passage through said pipes, more precisely the viscosity of the adhesive is measured or compared to a reference value, by the devices represented by 32a and 32b. Flow control valves 33a and 33b are arranged near the glue distribution nozzles 34a and 34b which each project a fine jet of glue 35a and 35b, in order to supply the glue rod 30.
- One or more sets of cells proximity measurement preferably photocells infrared radiation are arranged in suitable places, for example near the glue dispensing nozzles 34a and 34b, as shown in 36a and 36b, in order to measure one of the characteristic dimensions of the rod 30, for example its transverse dimension.
- the cell or cells 36a and 36b are proximity transmitter-receiver cells.
- the cells can be placed near the ends of the rod in order to control the length.
- the gluing device is completed with a water supply device 4, composed of one or more water spray nozzles, only one of which is shown at 40.
- This spray nozzle is preceded by a control valve 41 and projects a narrow but relatively elongated jet in the direction of the axis of rotation of the roller 10, as shown at 42, approximately radially to the first roller 10, on a section portion of the roller 10, situated slightly before that comprising the flange 30.
- the sizing device is completed an electronic control circuit 5.
- the operation of the gluing device will now be described in all its functionality.
- the correct functioning of the cigarette machine that is to say a movement of the strip of paper 2 to be glued is detected by the detector shown diagrammatically at 24 which can be of any type, for example an encoder disc placed on the roller 21 of paper tape drive.
- the detector 24 sends a signal indicating the unwinding of the strip of paper 2 as well as the speed of unwinding of said strip, to the electronic control circuit 5. From the speed signal coming from the detector 24, and when the running speed of the strip of paper 2 is sufficient, the electronic control circuit 5 controls the actuating means 23 in order to advance the roller 22 and to press the underside 20 of the paper strip 2 against a portion of the surface of the central part 14 of the roller 12.
- the electronic circuit 5 controls the engagement of the toothed wheels for driving the rollers 10 and 12 so that each of these is driven at a speed proportional to the speed of driving the paper tape 2. Then the control circuit 5 controls the opening of the control valves 33a and 33b so that the glue jets 35a and 35b can feed the flange 30. The glue necessary for gluing the underside Erieure 20 of the paper tape 2 is taken from said flange by the second roller 12.
- the figure represents the case where it is not necessary that the entire surface 20 is glued but only a certain number of zones 20a, while the rest of the surface 20b, corresponding for example to the regions of the paper on which the ventilation holes of the filter are arranged as well as to the places where a cutting blade responsible for separating the cigarettes will pass, does not receive any glue.
- the surface condition of the portions 10a of the cylindrical surface of the roller 10 is such that glue can adhere to it and be removed from the flange 30 in order to be transmitted to portions 14a of the central part 14 of the roller 12 to be able to glue the zones 20a of the paper tape 2.
- the surface condition of the portions 10b of the cylindrical surface of the roll 10, arranged between the portions 10a, is such that the sausage glue 30 cannot adhere to it, which leaves the portions 14b of the central part 14 of the roll 12 free of glue and consequently the zones 20b of the paper tape 2.
- the surface portions 10b are extremely smooth and / or covered with a coating preventing the glue from adhering to it.
- the flange 30 is therefore supplied with glue on one side by the jets 35a and 35b coming from the nozzles 34a and 34b and on the other side of the glue is extracted therefrom by the tracks 10a of the first sizing roller 10 to be transmitted to the zones 20a of the lower surface 20 of the tape 2, via the portions 14a of the second sizing roller 12.
- said strand is continuously kneaded by the rollers 10 and 12 so that the glue coming from the nozzles 34a and 34b extends well over the entire length of the cylindrical portion 14 of the second roller 12 so that the surface portions 14a disposed at the ends of said cylindrical portion are suitably supplied with adhesive.
- the flange is too large and that too much glue is kneaded for too long before being removed by the tracks 10a, respectively 14a, in order to avoid drying of the glue.
- the dimensions of the flange are controlled, the quantity of glue supplied by the nozzles 34a and 34b being adjusted so that the flange has just the necessary length, that is to say approximately the length of the cylindrical portion 14, any excess lengths being found on the end portions of the roller 12 in the form of a truncated cone, 15a and 15b, where they will be recovered by any wiping means (not shown).
- the dimension of the rod is checked by means of the measuring cells 36a and 36b which measure the thickness of the rod 30 or by the cells (not shown) arranged nearby.
- viscosity measuring devices 32a and 32b are installed in the supply piping and constantly monitor the viscosity glue flowing through these pipes.
- a signal is supplied to the electronic control circuit 5 which opens the valve 41 of a device water spray 4.
- a certain amount of water is added to the tube so as to maintain a low viscosity.
- the electronic device acts first of all on the actuating means 23 to move the drive roller 22 away and move the paper tape 2 away from the sizing roller 12, then on the drive means 11 and 13 of the rollers 10 and 12, respectively, to trigger the drive of said rollers of the general drive of the machine and to trigger an auxiliary drive (not shown), namely an electric motor, in order to continue to keep said rollers rotating at constant speed so that the flange 30 continues to be kneaded; at the same time the circuit 5 controls the stopping of the supply of glue to the tube 30, by the complete closing of the control valves 33a and 33b, as well as the opening of the valve 41 in order to spray the roller 10, so that the flange 30 which continues to be kneaded by the rollers 10 and 12 does not dry out.
- the arrows arranged on the inputs, respectively the outputs, of the control circuit 5 indicate the direction in which the signals circulate.
- the sizing device makes it possible to guarantee a good sizing of a paper tape, by controlling the quality as well as the quantity of glue forming the tube, so that said glue does not degrade, respectively does not do not dry out before being applied to the paper tape.
- This device is particularly suitable for gluing the ribbon of paper which must come to surround the cigarette filters; it can also be adapted to any machine having to glue a surface of any ribbon during its running, whether this ribbon is made of paper or any other material, for example fabric or synthetic material, and intended for a whole other use than that described above.

Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a device for sizing a paper tape, in particular a paper tape intended to cover cigarette filters.
De tels dispositifs sont connus de la technique; ils consistent généralement en une pluralité de rouleaux en rotation, généralement deux, dont le premier trempe dans un bac de colle semi-liquide entraînant celle-ci afin de former un boudin juste avant l'endroit où les deux rouleaux sont en contact par une de leur génératrice, la colle nécessaire à l'encollage d'une bande de papier circulant en étant en contact appuyé contre le second rouleau, étant prélevée dudit boudin par ledit second rouleau et amenée contre le ruban de papier. Généralement il n'est pas nécessaire ou pas souhaité que l'ensemble de la surface du ruban de papier défilant sur le second rouleau soit encollée;
dans ce cas le premier rouleau comprendra plusieurs zones, celles d'entre elles correspondant aux surfaces du ruban de papier à ne pas encoller étant absolument lisses et/ou revêtues d'un enduit ne permettant pas à la colle d'y adhérer, alors que celles qui correspondent aux surfaces à encoller ont un état de surface tel que de la colle peut y adhérer, la colle étant alors prélevée du boudin et transmise au second rouleau afin qu'elle soit transportée par celui-ci sur les surfaces correspondantes à encoller du ruban de papier. Une pression importante et constante doit être assurée entre les deux rouleaux afin que la colle soit convenablement transférée des zones d'encollage du premier rouleau sur la surface extérieure du second rouleau.Such devices are known in the art; they generally consist of a plurality of rotating rollers, generally two, the first of which dips in a tank of semi-liquid glue driving it in order to form a flange just before the place where the two rollers are in contact by one of their generator, the glue necessary for gluing a strip of paper flowing while being in contact pressed against the second roll, being taken from said flange by said second roll and brought against the paper tape. Generally it is not necessary or not desired that the entire surface of the strip of paper running on the second roll is glued;
in this case the first roll will include several zones, those of them corresponding to the surfaces of the paper tape not to be glued being absolutely smooth and / or coated with a coating which does not allow the glue to adhere to it, whereas those corresponding to the surfaces to be glued have a surface condition such that glue can adhere to it, the glue is then taken from the flange and transmitted to the second roller so that it is transported by the latter on the corresponding surfaces to be glued from paper tape. A large and constant pressure must be ensured between the two rollers so that the glue is properly transferred from the gluing areas of the first roller to the outer surface of the second roller.
The major drawback of such a device according to the prior art lies in the fact that the quality and the quantity of glue supplying the rod is not controlled, which can lead to poor quality of the gluing of the paper tape. In fact, the glue supply of the sausage is made continuously by the first roller while the second roller takes only part of the glue contained in the sausage to bring it against the tape; it follows that the excess glue escapes through the ends of the lower roller and falls back into the tank. It is the same when the transport of the paper tape is interrupted for any reason while the rollers continue to rotate in order to continue the mixing of the glue in the tray and to avoid drying out of the existing flange, while the tape of paper no longer removes glue from the second roll. Thus, the quality of the glue in the tank is inhomogeneous, consisting of glue coming directly from the glue supply and of glue having already passed through the flange. On the other hand, since the flange continues to be kneaded during a stop of the machine, the adhesive contained in the flange is degraded by rolling the flange between the two rollers. In addition, since the upper surface of the tank is in the open air, the glue in the tank may tend to dry out or may receive dirt and debris from the rest of the machine. The combination of these various causes generates an unsatisfactory sizing of the paper tape.
In order to overcome these drawbacks, the device according to the invention has the elements having the characteristics mentioned in the characterizing parts of the claims.
The gluing device according to the invention is now described from the appended drawing comprising a single figure representing a schematic perspective view of an embodiment of a device sizing according to the invention.
The roller system 1 is composed of a
The drive means 11 and 13 of the
The glue supply means 3 intended for making the
Le dispositif d'encollage est complété d'un circuit de commande électronique 5.Since the glue generally used is soluble in water, an adjustment, respectively a decrease in its viscosity, can be obtained by adding a given quantity of water to the
The operation of the gluing device will now be described in all its functionality. The correct functioning of the cigarette machine, that is to say a movement of the strip of
Since the glue contained in the
In the event that the

Thus, the sizing device according to the invention makes it possible to guarantee a good sizing of a paper tape, by controlling the quality as well as the quantity of glue forming the tube, so that said glue does not degrade, respectively does not do not dry out before being applied to the paper tape. This device is particularly suitable for gluing the ribbon of paper which must come to surround the cigarette filters; it can also be adapted to any machine having to glue a surface of any ribbon during its running, whether this ribbon is made of paper or any other material, for example fabric or synthetic material, and intended for a whole other use than that described above.
