Definitions
- the invention relates to a capped electric lamp comprising:
- Such a capped electric lamp which may be used as a headlamp in a motorcar, is known from DE-GM-8 907 108.5.
- the insulator body is enclosed in the shell by means of first tongues and inwardly bent tags which rest against a circumferential collar of the insulator body.
- a disadvantage of this lamp is that the insulator body is not immovably enclosed in the metal shell. This is because the first tongues cannot be bent inwards into a recesses until after the insulator body has been inserted in the metal shell. The said tongues cannot be pressed further than to the point where they touch the insulator body in that case. Since deformations in the metal shell during its manufacture have not only a plastic but also an elastic component, the tongues will spring back somewhat. The result of this is that there will be play between the insulator body and the shell.
- the invention has for its object to provide a capped electric lamp of the kind described in the opening paragraph which, among other characteristics, is of a simple construction, easy to assemble, and allows a rigid fastening of the insulator body in the metal shell.
- the insulator body may be very easily inserted in the metal shell with a single translation and be fastened thereto at the same time.
- the insulator body to this end, is inserted in the shell with its second end face forward in the direction in which the first tongue extends.
- the insulator body then slides with its outer surface along the metal shell until the first tongue presses with its free end against the boundary surface.
- the assembly of the insulator body with the shell is then completed, and the insulator body is securely fastened in the metal shell.
- the insulator body is passed so far into the shell that the insulator body butts against the shell in a direction away from the first to the second end face, for example against the first tongue, against a projection, or against an end thereof.
- the insulator body is then incapable not only of making the return movement, but also of moving any further.
- first tongue is sufficient for securely fastening the insulator body to the metal shell, it is attractive for the metal shell to have several first tongues. Wide tolerances for the dimensions of the shell and of the insulator body are then possible.
- the metal shell has a circumferential, inwardly flanged rim at the said cross-section.
- a rim contributes to a greater rigidity of the shell and forms a stop against which the insulator body can be checked.
- the circumferential rim is laterally connected to at least one first tongue.
- the tongue is more rigid as a result.
- the insulator body has in an end face a cavity from which a strip projects as an electrical contact, which strip has a bent portion
- Such an electrical contact may be very easily fastened to the insulator body. It is sufficient to insert the strip in the insulator body until the bent portion presses against the wall. The strip is then enclosed in the insulator body since the bent portion presses against the wall of the cavity and thus blocks translation in an opposing direction.
- the strip is inserted in the insulator body so far that it butts against the insulator body in a direction away from the said end face to the lamp vessel. As a result, it is impossible for the strip not only to return, but also to be passed any further into the insulator body.
- bent portion of the said strip is entirely enclosed in the said cavity.
- the bent portion cannot be shifted from the wall of the cavity then, even if the strip should be deformed owing to an extreme load.
- the outer surface of the insulator body may, for example, be cylindrical, for example, with a circular or oval cross-section, but it may alternatively be, for example, a truncated cone surface.
- the capped electric lamp comprises a lamp vessel 1 which is closed in a vacuumtight manner and in which an electric element 2, an incandescent body in the Figure, is arranged.
- the electric element 2 may alternately be, for example, a pair of electrodes.
- the lamp further comprises a lamp cap 10 which is connected to the lamp vessel 1 and is provided with electrical contacts 20a (20b in Fig. 2) and a metal shell 30 at which, in a cross-section X-X, a first tongue 31a having a free end 32a is present.
- the lamp cap 10 is further provided with an insulator body 50 which is enclosed in the metal shell 30 and which has a circumferential outer surface 51 between a first and a second end face (52, 53, respectively) which are remote from one another.
- the first tongue 31a in this construction lies in a recess 54a in the second end face 53 of the insulator body 50, which extends from a boundary surface 55a oriented transversely relative to the second end face 53 to in the outer surface 51.
- the lamp further comprises current supply conductors 70a, 70b to the electric element 2, issuing from the lamp vessel 1 to the exterior and connected to electrical contacts 20a, 20b of the lamp cap 10.
- the first tongue 31a points obliquely away from the first end face 52 and presses with its free end 32a against the boundary surface 55a of the recess 54a.
- the metal shell 30 has several first tongues 31a, 31c.
- the metal shell 30 furthermore has a prefocus ring 35 for accurately positioning the electric element 2 in a reflector.
- the lamp vessel 1 is connected to this ring 35 by means of an intermediate bush 36 and a clamping bush 37, with the incandescent body 2 aligned relative to the prefocus ring 35.
- the metal shell 30 has a circumferential, inwardly flanged rim 33 at the said cross-section X-X.
- the insulator body 50 butts against this rim 33 of the shell 30 in a direction away from the first to the second end face 52, 53, respectively.
- the circumferential rim 33 is laterally connected to several first tongues 31a to 31d.
- tongues are so arranged that a first pair 34a and an opposing second pair 34b of first tongues 31-31d are present at the said cross-section of the metal shell 30, between which pairs the insulator body 50 has electrical contacts 20a, 20b.
- the tongues 31a-31d are accommodated in separate recesses 54a-54d.
- a good tangential coupling of the insulator body 50 to the shell 30 is safeguarded by this.
- this coupling may be realised, for example, in that the insulator body 50 and the shell 30 are not rotationally symmetrical but, for example, oval or rectangular.
- the insulator body 50 has in its second end face 53 cavities 56a, 56b from which strips 21a, 21b project as electrical contacts 20a, 20b.
- the strips each have a bent portion 22a, 22b which presses against a wall 57a, 57b of the cavities 56a, 56b, which wall is oriented transversely relative to the said end face 53 and points obliquely towards the said end face 53.
- bent portions 22a, 22b of the strips 21a, 21b are entirely accommodated in the cavities 56a, 56b. It is prevented in this way that a bent portion, for example 22a, can be shifted from the wall 57a when a force with a direction F is exerted on the strip 21a.
- the current supply conductors 70a, 70b are guided to the contacts 20a, 20b through funnels 58a, 58b in the insulator body 50.
- the bent portions 22a, 22b of these contacts 20a, 20b have openings 23a, 23b through which the current supply conductors 70a, 70b issue to the exterior.
- the current supply conductors 70a, 70b are fixed to the bent portions 22a, 22b of the contacts 20a, 20b.
- the second end face 153 faces the lamp vessel 101.
- the insulator body 150 butts against an end 138 of the shell 130 in a direction away from the first 152 to the second 153 end face.
- the lamp cap 110 has electrical contacts 120a, 120b (shown in broken lines in Fig. 5) at the first end face 152 of the insulator body 150.
