Description

The invention relates to a method and a device for packaging a stack of flat objects according to the preamble of claims 1 and 4, respectively.

From US-A-37 71 280 a method is known, the execution of which requires a machine with three superposed stations, in which successive the overlapping wrapping of opposite side areas of the end areas of the tube-like wrapping of each stack which has already been formed outside the station takes place with the formation of the corner wraps, which are then also wrapped overlapping one another to form a cross-floor-like closure. A special lifting and lowering device must be provided in order to be able to convey the stack for the successive execution of the individual folding and wrapping processes from one station to another. To carry out the known method, complicated machining processes are therefore required, which can only be accomplished with considerable constructional and mechanical effort.

A method and a device according to the preambles of claims 1 and 4 are known from DE-C-244 356.

The object of the invention is to propose a method of the type specified at the outset, which can be carried out using devices with a reduced constructional and structural outlay.

According to the invention, this object is achieved in a method of the generic type by the features of the characterizing part of claim 1. The method according to the invention can be carried out mechanically with a reduced constructional and structural outlay, because only one retractable folding element has to be provided for turning in opposite sides of the end regions of the wrapping projecting over the stack, the folding element being designed such that the parts are then extended laterally for painting can. In addition to this first folding element then basically only devices must be provided for folding the corner envelopes formed by spreading out the first folded page. Another particular advantage is that the fact that the corner folds are formed by spreading out only one folded-in side means that they are open at the side, so that the extended spreading folding elements can be pulled out of the extended corner folds at right angles to the spreading direction. Due to the simplified method, a machine can be built to carry it out, in which the complete wrapping and packaging of the stack can be carried out in only one station.

If stacks are to be packed which, due to the nature of the stacked flat objects, tend to spring open, such as stacks of bags provided with handles, the stacks exert a strong force on the wrapping after being relieved by the means which compress them, under which the wrapping the protruding end areas of the envelopes formed bottom-like closures can burst again. Stacks of bags with handles, the thickness of which is greater than the thickness of the bag walls lying flat on top of one another, are usually layered to form stacks with a straight edge in that partial stacks are formed, which are then stacked so as to be offset from the stacks in such a way that handle areas lying one above the other between the bottom areas of two partial stacks lie. The packaged bags provided with handles can also be folded over a transverse line to reduce their length. The "width" of a bag in the packaged stack in the sense of the preamble of claim 1 is therefore also to be understood as the width of the bag folded before stacking. Despite this stratification, compressed stacks of this type tend to spring open, so that they exert considerable explosive forces on a packaging enveloping them. The packaging casing formed by the method according to the invention is particularly suitable for packaging stacks that tend to spring open, such as stacks of bags with handles of greater thickness, because they are folded Formed lateral closures of the wrapping can counteract a springing up of the packaged stack, as a result of the fact that the corner folds are turned outwards onto the two narrow sides of the wrapping which adjoin the initially still open end face. Since the corner folds are therefore not turned inwards on the closure side but rather outwards, the adhesive bonding them to the covering is not subjected to shearing, but at most to unfolding, so that a largely dimensionally stable locking bolt is formed by the folded edge alone.

The end regions of the tubular sleeve are expediently designed to be longer than half the width of the still open end face, but shorter than the entire width. This configuration ensures that the mutually opposite sides of the end regions of the envelope overlap one another, so that a tight seal is formed.

In order to secure the closure formed by the method according to the invention, the opposite side of the end region folded in by spreading out the first folded-in side is also provided with glue applications, for example in the form of glue dabs, on the inside in the overlap region.

A device for performing the method according to the invention is characterized according to the invention by the features of claim 4.

The expandable folding plate pairs are appropriately beveled at their end sides by 45 ° in accordance with the angle of the corner folds that are formed.

In addition, glue application nozzles are provided in a known manner, which provide the folded sides and corner folds or the wrapped narrow sides with glue applications.

The packaging web section 4 has the length required for wrapping the stack and hangs in a slot formed by a correspondingly small distance between the first press channel 1 and the second press channel 5.

In the illustration shown in FIG. 2, the stack of bags 3 has already been pushed into the press channel 5 by the packaging web section 4, which acts as if it were a curtain, the slider 2 already being in its partially retracted position. From Fig. 2 it can also be seen that the inserted stack is enveloped by the packaging web section on three sides while upper and lower flags 6, 7 project beyond the rear side of the stack. The second press channel 5 consists essentially of a lower fixed plate 8 and an upper rake-like grid formed from individual bars 9. The width of the rake-like grid is dimensioned such that the packaging web section 4 protrudes laterally beyond the stack 3 on both end faces, so that folding elements can act on the end regions of the packaging web section.

The position of the stack 3 shown in FIG. 2 and the packaging web section partially enveloping it is shown in perspective in FIG. 4. From Fig. 4 it can also be seen that partial stacks of the bags are offset from one another in such a way that the handles of a partial stack each lie between the bottom areas of adjacent partial stacks. From Fig. 4 it is clear that the resilience of the stack formed from the partial stacks is strongest in the area of the handles 10 because the individual handles consist of material of greater thickness than the thickness of the material of the individual bags. By elements not shown is then gem. Fig. 4 knocked down the upper flag 7 of the packaging web section and provided the lower edge of the flag 7 with a row of glue dots 11. Then the lower flag 6 is flipped upwards and pressed onto the glue point row 11, so that the tubular or sleeve-like wrapping of the stack shown in FIG. 6 results from the wrapping web section wrapped around it.

Then, from the side in the manner shown in FIG. 7, a pair of folding plates 12 moves into the area of the packaging web section 4 projecting laterally from the stack, so that the configuration shown in FIG. 7 results. Then two glue points 13 and 14 are applied to the inside of the flag 7 and then the two folding plates of the pair of folding plates 12 move apart in the direction of arrow B (FIG. 8). The extended position of the two folding plates of the pair of folding plates 12 is shown in FIG. 9. As soon as this packaging state has been reached, further glue pads 15 are applied to the narrow sides of the packaging, onto which the corner folds 16 and 17 are folded by means (not shown) after the folding plate pair 12 has been moved out.

By folding and gluing the corner turns 16 and 17 on the narrow sides of the casing it is achieved that the spring forces acting in the direction of arrow C (FIG. 10) cannot exert any shear forces on the glue points formed by the glue points 15. If the wrapped and packaged bag stack 3 is pushed out of the second press channel 5 in the manner described, there is no longer any risk that the wrapping surrounding the stack will be blown up by the springing forces of the compressed bag stack.
