Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a method for producing utility or decorative objects from a plastic sheet material, transparent or tinted in the mass or on the surface, of precise shape.
Il est connu de réaliser par diverses techniques des objets utilitaires ou décoratifs à partir de matériaux plastiques que l'on soumet à différents traitements mécaniques, par exemple découpe, polissage, etc...It is known to produce, by various techniques, utility or decorative objects from plastic materials which are subjected to different mechanical treatments, for example cutting, polishing, etc.
The object of the invention is to propose a method for producing objects of the above type which have a completely original shape and appearance, without any limitation of shape, offering the artist total latitude in his creation. This process also makes it possible to produce parts which are all different from one another if desired.
According to the invention, a method is proposed for this purpose for the production of utility or decorative objects from a plastic sheet material, transparent or dyed in the mass or on the surface, of precise shape, characterized in that 'it consists in subjecting said plastic material to a humid atmosphere with control of the hygrometric degree and then placing it under a heat source at a temperature above 53 °.
The heat source could be, for example but not limited to infrared radiation.
A decorative object is thus obtained by deformation under the effect of heat, deformation which can be controlled and oriented for example by a mold.
The tests carried out will be repeated below.
Example 1 - at 53 °, after about 30 seconds, the acrylic materials lose their shine, become dull and curl up.
After about a minute, the first bubbles appear, the material puffs up. The phenomenon lasts for one to two minutes and then stabilizes when the entire surface is transformed. The bubbles burst as if the material was boiling.
Example 2 - at 53 °, the polycarbonates do not transform in the same way and no bubbles appear even for a very long time.
Example 3 - If one works at a higher temperature (75 °), the phenomenon is the same for acrylic and polycarbonates.
A colored appearance is obtained by the basic colors of the material and by spraying with suitable colored varnishes.
These objects with a particular aesthetic appearance can be assembled together or with other elements of various materials.
The effects of form and color will only have limits in the creative capacity of the artist. The transformation techniques lend themselves perfectly to repetitive manufacturing in terms of forms and visual aspects (industrial series) and also to the unique personalized object.
