Definitions
- the present invention relates to a coaxial electrical connector of the type comprising a male element and a female element capable of being connected to each other in a removable manner, comprising, on the connector elements, cooperating locking means, resistant to axial traction, and unlocking means capable of causing a release of said locking means to allow separation of the connector elements.
- each of the connector elements comprises a central contact, of pin and socket type respectively, capable of cooperating with the central contact of the other element during connection, one of the elements comprising an external ground contact in form of socket, the outer wall of which comprises an annular groove of concave profile, the other connector element comprising an external ground contact comprising a socket with radial elasticity and a body in which a cavity is made in which a rod is housed and retained annular elastic, of open contour, comprising radial projections, capable of engaging in the annular groove of the first connector element when the two connector elements are brought together axially, and a peripheral unlocking sleeve capable of sliding along the second element connector and having an annular wall intended to come into contact with said j elastic wave and push the latter into said cavity so as to release it from the groove of the first connector element.
- the elastic rod consists of a cut strip of elastic material comprising a plurality of spaced projections having a curved surface, the annular cavity intended to house and retain the rod having two inclined walls, one produced by machining the body of the corresponding connector element, the other part of a ring crimped at the end of said body. Additional means, such as an annular tab, are also provided for retaining the rod in the body cavity.
- the cavity intended to accommodate and retain the elastic ring is produced in the body of the second connector element at a relatively large radial distance from the elastic sleeve of the ground contact of this second connector element to allow the sleeve of the first connector element to be housed in an annular space provided between said elastic socket said cavity housing the elastic ring. This notably increases the space requirement in the radial direction of the connector and therefore its outside diameter.
- the present invention proposes to provide a connector allowing a simplified and therefore less expensive manufacture of the elastic ring and of the connector element intended to receive it, while notably reducing the space requirement in the radial direction of this connector element.
- the connector according to the present invention is essentially characterized in that the elastic sleeve of the external earth contact of the second connector element has a diameter corresponding substantially to the diameter of the annular wall of the peripheral unlocking sleeve, said elastic sleeve having a front end disposed inside said annular cavity of the body of the second connector element, and which the elastic ring comprises, inclined portions projecting radially outwards and disposed between the opposite ends of the elastic sleeve and the annular wall of the peripheral sleeve.

- annular cavity of the body of the second connector element no longer needs to have two inclined walls, a single inclined wall being sufficient to ensure guidance of the end of one of the inclined branches of the annular ring when unlocked and, in addition, no additional holding element is necessary to retain the ring in the corresponding cavity in the disassembled position of the connector.
- a coaxial connector according to the invention consists of a first connector element generally designated by 1 and a second connector element generally designated by 2.
- the first connector element 1 is arranged as a male element and comprises a central pin-shaped contact 3, an external ground contact in the form of a socket 4 and an insulating sleeve 5.
- a central pin-shaped contact 3 In the peripheral wall of the external contact sleeve 4, an annular groove 6 is produced. More specifically, the groove 6 has a profile corresponding to the profile of the annular ring, which will be described in more detail below, to ensure good retention in the coupling position.
- the groove 6 thus comprises in the example illustrated a truncated V-shaped profile with a cylindrical bottom wall and two frustoconical side walls.

- the connector element 2 further comprises an insulator 17 between the central contact 8 and the external contact, and an annular elastic ring 18 of substantially V-shaped section with truncated tip.
- the structure of the rod 18 which constitutes a separate component is best seen in FIG. 4.
- the rod is split, at 19, and comprises a cylindrical central core 20 from which extend, projecting radially outwards, two branches 21 and 22.
- the rod 18 is made of elastic material, for example beryllium copper.
- the connector element 2 comprises an unlocking member constituted by a peripheral sleeve 23 capable of sliding along the peripheral wall of the part 10 of the body, this sleeve comprising an annular wall 24 provided with an end chamfer 25 and engaging inside the body.
- the diameter of the annular wall 24 of the sleeve 23 corresponds substantially to the diameter of the elastic sleeve 9, so that the chamfered ends 16 of the sleeve, and 25 of the annular wall, lie substantially opposite one another on either side of the branches 21 and 22 of the elastic ring 18.
- annular rod 18 held in the groove 6 is positioned axially between the ends of the sleeve 9 and of the annular wall 24 of the unlocking sleeve 23.
- the annular ring 18 remains held in the groove 6 by being wedged between the right side wall (in the drawing) of the groove 6 and the wall inclined 14 of part 11 of the body.
- the unlocking sleeve is pushed back in the direction of the arrow A in FIG. 3.
- the chamfer 25 of the annular wall 24 cooperates with the inclined branch 21 of the rod 18 and move the rod 18 away from the groove 6.

- the connector illustrated in FIG. 5 differs only from that of FIGS. 1 to 3 by the fact that the body 11 ′ of the external ground contact of the second connector element 2 is produced in one piece and no longer by two assembled parts 10 and 11.
- This embodiment makes it possible to further reduce the space requirement in the radial direction of the second connector element and therefore its outside diameter.
Description
The present invention relates to a coaxial electrical connector of the type comprising a male element and a female element capable of being connected to each other in a removable manner, comprising, on the connector elements, cooperating locking means, resistant to axial traction, and unlocking means capable of causing a release of said locking means to allow separation of the connector elements.
The applicant company has already described in FR-A-2 492 598 an electrical connector of this type ensuring good properties of electrical connection and mechanical strength, in particular in axial traction, while requiring only low forces for coupling and uncoupling of the connector elements.
In this document, each of the connector elements comprises a central contact, of pin and socket type respectively, capable of cooperating with the central contact of the other element during connection, one of the elements comprising an external ground contact in form of socket, the outer wall of which comprises an annular groove of concave profile, the other connector element comprising an external ground contact comprising a socket with radial elasticity and a body in which a cavity is made in which a rod is housed and retained annular elastic, of open contour, comprising radial projections, capable of engaging in the annular groove of the first connector element when the two connector elements are brought together axially, and a peripheral unlocking sleeve capable of sliding along the second element connector and having an annular wall intended to come into contact with said j elastic wave and push the latter into said cavity so as to release it from the groove of the first connector element.
In the known connector, the elastic rod consists of a cut strip of elastic material comprising a plurality of spaced projections having a curved surface, the annular cavity intended to house and retain the rod having two inclined walls, one produced by machining the body of the corresponding connector element, the other part of a ring crimped at the end of said body. Additional means, such as an annular tab, are also provided for retaining the rod in the body cavity.
Given the small dimensions of such connectors, the production of such rods and such cavities in the body of a connector element is complex and relatively expensive.
In addition, the cavity intended to accommodate and retain the elastic ring is produced in the body of the second connector element at a relatively large radial distance from the elastic sleeve of the ground contact of this second connector element to allow the sleeve of the first connector element to be housed in an annular space provided between said elastic socket said cavity housing the elastic ring. This notably increases the space requirement in the radial direction of the connector and therefore its outside diameter.
The present invention proposes to provide a connector allowing a simplified and therefore less expensive manufacture of the elastic ring and of the connector element intended to receive it, while notably reducing the space requirement in the radial direction of this connector element.
The connector according to the present invention is essentially characterized in that the elastic sleeve of the external earth contact of the second connector element has a diameter corresponding substantially to the diameter of the annular wall of the peripheral unlocking sleeve, said elastic sleeve having a front end disposed inside said annular cavity of the body of the second connector element, and which the elastic ring comprises, inclined portions projecting radially outwards and disposed between the opposite ends of the elastic sleeve and the annular wall of the peripheral sleeve.
The elastic ring advantageously has in section a V-shape with a truncated point, that is to say with a cylindrical central core and, on either side of it, two lateral branches inclined projecting radially outwards. forming between them an angle preferably of the order of 90 °, and disposed respectively opposite the end of the elastic sleeve of the second connector element and the end of the annular wall of the peripheral unlocking sleeve.
Preferably, the end faces of the elastic sleeve of the second connector element and of the annular wall of the peripheral unlocking sleeve are chamfered to contribute to the radial outward guidance of the elastic ring in the cavity of the body of the second element of connector when disconnected.
It will thus be understood that, contrary to what is the case in the prior document, the annular cavity of the body of the second connector element no longer needs to have two inclined walls, a single inclined wall being sufficient to ensure guidance of the end of one of the inclined branches of the annular ring when unlocked and, in addition, no additional holding element is necessary to retain the ring in the corresponding cavity in the disassembled position of the connector.
- FIG. 1 is an elevational view, partially in section, showing the end parts of the elements of a coaxial connector according to the invention in the uncoupled position,
- FIG. 2 represents the end parts of the elements of the coaxial connector of FIG. 1 in the coupled position,
- FIG. 3 illustrates these same elements during uncoupling,
- FIG. 4 illustrates an embodiment of an elastic ring usable in the connector according to the invention, and
- Figure 5 is a view similar to Figure 1 of a variant of coaxial connector according to the invention.
On se réfère tout d'abord aux figures 1 à 4.We first refer to Figures 1 to 4.
The
L'extrémité frontale de la douille 4 présente un chanfrein d'extrémité 7.The front end of the sleeve 4 has an end chamfer 7.
The
The
The
The
To lock the connector from the disassembled position in FIG. 1, it suffices to push the
La position assemblée est illustrée à la figure 2.The assembled position is illustrated in Figure 2.
It can be seen in this figure that the
If an axial traction is exerted on the
To carry out the unlocking from the assembled position of FIG. 2, the unlocking sleeve is pushed back in the direction of the arrow A in FIG. 3. The
When the sleeve is released, it returns to its front position, illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 2, under the action of the
The connector illustrated in FIG. 5 differs only from that of FIGS. 1 to 3 by the fact that the
This embodiment makes it possible to further reduce the space requirement in the radial direction of the second connector element and therefore its outside diameter.
