Definitions

  • the present invention relates to an element or piece for connecting electrical conductors, in particular earth connections.
  • This invention applies more specifically to the connection between them of electrical conductors having connection surfaces of a different metallic nature: for example one of these surfaces can be made of copper while the other surface is made of stainless steel.
  • connection systems generally reveal bimetallic contacts.
  • the risks of corrosion of such bimetallic contacts are well known and the use of these connection systems results in a questioning of the quality of the connections over time.
  • US-A-3,895,851 describes a connecting piece of electrical conductors where, at the connection between electrical conductors having connecting surfaces of different metallic nature, it only has contact surfaces between elements of practically identical metallic nature.
  • this invention relates to a connecting piece of electrical conductors, in particular for earth connections, in which at the connection between electrical conductors having connection surfaces of a different metallic nature, it only has contact surfaces between elements of identical or practically identical metallic nature, characterized in that it comprises least a tubular part having, on the one hand, a wall of sufficiently small thickness to be able to be easily deformed and, on the other hand, an internal surface made of a metal of a different nature from that constituting its external surface, said part tubular acting as an intermediate contact piece at the connection and receiving one of the electrical conductors to be connected.
  • said tubular part is made of stainless steel and its internal surface is made of copper.
  • this connecting piece is in the form of a cylindrical piece of stainless steel having a frustoconical bore opening onto a cylindrical cavity in which one of the conductors to be connected is positioned.
  • this cylindrical part being further provided with a transverse bore in which is housed said tubular part receiving the second conductor to be connected for example a grounding cable.
  • the connecting piece is in the form of a stainless steel sleeve provided with a bore in which said tubular part is positioned, said sleeve being further provided with a stainless steel screw to secure one of the conductors to be connected, for example an earth stake, this tightening being carried out between the end of said screw and the external wall of said tubular piece receiving the second conductor to be connected for example a grounding cable.
  • the connecting piece that is the subject of the present invention, it makes it possible to ensure the connection of an earth rod to an electric grounding cable, this cable being held in said tubular part in contact with the internal surface thereof and the end of the ground rod of earth being held in said connecting piece.
  • FIGS. 1 to 3 illustrate a first embodiment of the connection piece which is the subject of the invention.
  • This part is in the form of a connection collar making it possible, for example, to make an electrical connection between a cylindrical earth rod of stainless steel and an electric grounding cable made of copper.
  • the earth stake may in particular be of the type described in the French patent 8908405 filed June 23, 1989 by this licensee. However, this application does not of course have any limiting character.
  • the connecting piece or collar according to the invention illustrated in FIGS. 1 to 3 is in the form of a cylindrical piece 1, made of stainless steel which has a frustoconical cavity 2 which opens into a cylindrical cavity 3 perpendicular to which is provided a bore 4 intended to receive a tubular part 5.
  • This tubular part 5 is produced using the same metal as that of the electrical conductor which must be positioned in the cavities 2 and 3 of the cylindrical part 1.
  • this tubular part 5 is made of stainless steel. It has a sufficiently thin wall so that it can be easily deformed and, moreover, it has an internal surface 6 which is made of a metal identical to that of the conductor which must be positioned in said tubular part 5. Consequently, in the present application example, the internal surface 6 of the tubular piece 5 of stainless steel is made of copper.
  • connection according to the present invention comprises only contacts between contact surfaces of identical metallic nature, that is to say copper-copper (internal surface 6 of the tubular part 5 in contact with the copper cable 8) and stainless steel - stainless steel (cyl cavity 3 of the connecting piece 1 in contact with the stainless steel post 7).
  • this connecting piece is in the form of a sleeve 9 made of stainless steel and which is provided with a bore 4 ′ in which is positioned and mechanically locked a tubular piece 5 ′ identical to the tubular part 5 of the connecting part described above with reference to FIGS. 1 to 3. Consequently, this tubular part 5 ′ is made of stainless steel, it has an internal surface 6 ′ made of the same metal as that constituting the cable electric 8 ′ that it must receive (in this example it is therefore copper and its wall is thin enough to be easily distorted).
  • the sleeve 9 also includes a clamping screw 13 which is positioned perpendicular to the tubular part 5 ′ and facing the external wall of the latter so as to be able to clamp the other element to be connected (for example a pick-up stake earth) against this outer wall, as will be described below.
  • connection is made by positioning the sleeve 9 on the end of the earth stake 7 ′ and placing the end of the earth cable 8 ′ inside the tubular part 5 ′ ( Figure 5 ).
  • the tightening screw is then screwed (this operation has been shown diagrammatically by an arrow in FIG. 6), which allows on the one hand to obtain an effective mechanical locking of the earth stake 7 ′ between the free end of the screw 13 and the external wall of the tubular part 5 ′ and on the other hand to effect an effective mechanical locking of the earthing cable 8 ′ inside the tubular element 5 ′ whose sufficiently thin wall s 'is deformed during this tightening operation of the screw 13 as can be seen in Figure 6.
  • connection according to the present invention only comprises contacts between contact surfaces of identical metallic nature, that is to say copper-copper (internal surface 6 ′ of the tubular part 5 ′ in contact with the copper cable 8 ′) And stainless steel-stainless steel (a internal damage of the connection sleeve 9 in contact with the post 7 ′ of stainless steel).
