Abstract

PCT No. PCT/EP90/00875 Sec. 371 Date Nov. 27, 1991 Sec. 102(e) Date Nov. 27, 1991 PCT Filed Jun. 1, 1990 PCT Pub. No. WO90/15406 PCT Pub. Date Dec. 13, 1990.A device for electroacoustically amplifying a stringed instrument features a hollow tailpiece button (1), which supports a microphone (3) arranged inside the body of a stringed instrument (10).

Description

The invention relates to a device for electroacoustic amplification of a string instrument with a tailpiece button and with a pickup device attached to the string instrument via a holder, which pickup device can be connected to an amplifier via leads guided through the hollow tailpiece button.

In order to enable direct electroacoustic amplification, for example in the case of a violin, it was previously necessary to temporarily attach a microphone to the tailpiece near the bridge of the violin. With such conventional clip-on microphones, an occasionally desired electroacoustic sound amplification could be achieved with string instruments. Such direct sound amplification can be necessary in particular for the purpose of studio effects or concerts under unfavorable acoustic conditions, such as outdoor concerts.

In this known device, however, there is a risk that the arrangement will be touched or even repelled when the game is moving intensely. In addition, the sound result is unsatisfactory, since external influences such as bow or breathing noises from the musician are undesirably amplified. The device also represents an undesirable foreign body which - in addition to the fact that it is visually disturbing - can inhibit the musician's artistic development.

A device avoiding the disadvantages mentioned above is known from DE-PS 966 106. A hollow tailpiece button for a string instrument is described there, through which leads are led to a pickup device. Where this pickup device is located in or on the string instrument This publication does not mention what means are needed to fix it there. But the question of the bracket is a problem that should be solved optimally so as not to disturb the sound of the string instrument.

The invention is therefore based on the object to develop the known device so that the pickup device can be attached to a string instrument in an extremely simple manner. Another object is to provide a device that can be removed from the stringed instrument in just a few simple steps.

This object is achieved in that the pickup device is a microphone and that this microphone is arranged in the interior of the body of the stringed instrument and is held by the hollow tailpiece button.

Weiterbildungen der Erfindung sind Gegenstand der Unteransprüche.Developments of the invention are the subject of the dependent claims.

The invention takes particular advantage of the fact that a string holder button is present in any case with stringed instruments. This tailpiece button is used for string instruments to attach the tailpiece string. Based on this finding, the invention proposes to replace this custom tailpiece button with a hollow tailpiece button, which at the same time serves as a holder for a microphone to be inserted into the body of the string instrument. The microphone located in the hollow tailpiece button can be removed at any time and the remaining cavity can be replaced with a blind plug, for example.

Significant advantages of the device according to the invention are that
  • 1) - the higher sound pressure inside the string instrument improves the quality of the amplification,
  • 2) - the characteristic sound of the string instrument comes into its own,
  • 3) - external noise influences are largely eliminated by placing the microphone inside the body of the string instrument,
  • 4) - the undesired electroacoustic feedback is avoided,
  • 5) - the microphone is also optimally protected in the string instrument and
  • 6) - the player is no longer hindered, with the exception of the system-related cable connection, i.e. the electrical supply to the amplifier.

The invention is explained in more detail below using an exemplary embodiment in connection with three figures for use in a violin. However, the invention is not limited to violins. Rather, the invention can be used with any kind of stringed instruments that have a tailpiece button anyway. In a cello, for example, this is a support spike.

Die Figuren zeigen im einzelnen

The figures show in detail
FIG. 1
1 shows a first exemplary embodiment of a device according to the invention in a plan view of the body of a violin opened at the top,
FIG 2
a side view of the device according to the invention in the installed state and
FIG 3
possible embodiments for a hollow tailpiece button, a blind plug and a microphone plug with microphone.

Vorzugsweise weist der Stecker 5 und die Buchse 6 einen Bajonettverschluß auf.1 shows a first exemplary embodiment of a device according to the invention in a plan view of the body 10 of a violin which is open at the top. The tailpiece button that already exists with every violin is now replaced by a holder, which is designed as a hollow tailpiece button 1. This inner part of the tailpiece button, which tapers conically in this example, sits in the shaft of the block 4 common to the violin. A microphone 3 is held by the hollow tailpiece button 1, preferably via a flexible suspension 2. The microphone 3 is arranged in the interior of the body of the violin 11. A detachable connection is preferably provided at the end of the hollow tailpiece button 1 opposite the microphone 3, via which leads 16 to the amplifier can be connected to the microphone. In this exemplary embodiment, the detachable connection is formed as a plug 5 and socket 6, which is formed on one end of the supply lines 16 and is seated on the end of the hollow tailpiece button 1 opposite the microphone 3. The plug 5 and the socket 6 preferably have a bayonet lock.

Der hohle Saitenhalterknopf 1 ist im Schaft des Klotzes 4 eingeklemmt.2 shows the side view of FIG. 1 of the device according to the invention. The already known reference symbols will continue to be used for identical parts. Since the hollow tailpiece button 1 according to the invention has the dimensions of the already usual tailpiece button in the violin, it is easily possible to attach the tailpiece string 7 coming from the tailpiece 8 to the hollow tailpiece button 1. For this purpose, the hollow tailpiece button 1, like the tailpiece button which is customary in any case, has an annular recess 17, around which the string holder strand 7 is guided for fastening. The hollow tailpiece button 1 is clamped in the shaft of the block 4.

This hollow tailpiece button 1 now also has the dimensions of a tailpiece button already present in the violin. The hollow tailpiece button 1 now has a cylindrical opening with an internal thread, into which the blind plug 12 shown in FIG. 3b or the microphone plug 14 shown in FIG. 3c together with the microphone 3 can be screwed. The blind plug 12 is suitable for being screwed into the hollow tailpiece button 1. To the blind plug 12 has an external thread 15. This blind plug 12 is then screwed into the hollow tailpiece button 1 if no electroacoustic amplification of the violin is to be carried out.

In contrast, FIG. 3c shows the microphone 3 already described, which is now fastened in a microphone plug 14. The microphone plug 14 is similar to the blind plug 12 and also has an external thread 15. The microphone 3 can be connected to an electrical amplifier via a feed line 16. The feed line 16 leads through an opening 18 through the microphone plug 14 to the microphone 3. If the tones of the violin are to be amplified electro-acoustically, this microphone plug 14 together with the microphone 3 is screwed into the hollow tailpiece button 1. The microphone 3 is thus inside the body of the string instrument.

Instead of a screw connection between the hollow tailpiece button and blind plug 12 or microphone plug 14, a clamp connection can also be provided. The hollow tailpiece button 1, the blind plug 12 and the microphone plug 14 are preferably formed from aluminum and in particular black anodized.

With the design of the hollow tailpiece button 1, the blind plug 12 and the microphone plug 14 shown in FIG. 3, it is possible to install the hollow tailpiece button 1 once in the string instrument. This hollow tailpiece button 1 can then remain in the string instrument forever. The microphone 3 is held by a microphone plug 14 which is the same as the blind plug 12. When this microphone plug 14 is installed in the hollow tailpiece button 1, the lead 16 to the electrical amplifier only remains as a difference to the already usual tailpiece buttons in string instruments. The opening in the hollow tailpiece button 1 can then be closed above the blind plug 12 if no reinforcement is desired, so that this new hollow tailpiece button is 1 does not differ from a conventional tailpiece button.

The main advantages of such a design of the hollow tailpiece button 1, the blind plug 12 and the microphone plug 14 are that each string instrument only has to be converted once, the installation and removal of the microphone 3 can be carried out very quickly and uses different microphone types at any time can be.

Finally, it is pointed out that, instead of the microphone plug 14, it is of course also possible to use a microphone which can even be held in the hollow tailpiece button 1. For this purpose, the microphone itself is expediently provided with an external thread and black anodized. Instead of a screw connection, a clamp connection can also be provided.

It has been found that an optimal sound result is achieved if the microphone is held 3-10 mm, preferably 5 mm, from the end of the hollow tailpiece button.

A transmitter unit for wireless transmission can also be used as an amplifier.

This system is generally applicable to all string instruments that are equipped with a tailpiece knob or can be equipped with one.
