Description

The invention relates to a water box of a main heat exchanger as defined in the preamble of claim 1 and known, for example, from patent application FR-A-2,549,593.

In known devices of this kind, the main heat exchanger is traversed by a first fluid while the secondary heat exchanger is traversed by a second fluid which is cooled by the first fluid.

In the specific application to motor vehicles, the first fluid is the coolant of a heat engine, while the second fluid can be a lubricating oil of a heat engine, a gearbox oil or an engine oil. 'a torque converter. Thus, the coolant not only performs its usual function of cooling the engine, but also an additional function of cooling a fluid linked to the operation of the vehicle.

In known devices of this kind, the secondary heat exchanger is introduced through an open face of the water box and the latter is then connected to the body or to the bundle of the main heat exchanger. The secondary heat exchanger comprises two connecting pipes, respectively serving for the inlet and the outlet of the second fluid, which seal through two orifices of a wall of the water box and which serve for fixing and holding of the secondary heat exchanger inside the water box.

In the device known from document FR-A-2 549 593, the two connecting pipes are attached to the secondary heat exchanger after the latter has been placed inside the water box. Each of the two connecting pipes is then introduced, from the outside of the water box, successively through one of the aforementioned orifices of the wall and into an appropriate receiving housing which the second heat exchanger includes.

This solution has the advantage that it allows the use of a secondary heat exchanger whose external dimensions correspond substantially to the internal dimensions of the water box, which improves the efficiency of the secondary heat exchanger, while using a standard size water box.

However, this solution has the disadvantage that the secondary heat exchanger must be positioned in an extremely precise manner inside the water box so that the two orifices in the wall of the latter are rigorously aligned with the two housing of reception of the secondary heat exchanger in order to allow the two pipes to then be attached. This holding in position must be carried out before and during the operation of fitting the two pipes.

L'invention a notamment pour but de surmonter cet inconvénient. The object of the invention is in particular to overcome this drawback.

This object is achieved thanks to the characteristics mentioned in the characterizing part of claim 1.

Thus, it is ensured that the secondary heat exchanger is precisely positioned inside the water box, for the establishment of the two connecting pipes.

In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the water box comprises two slides suitable for receiving respectively two slides integral with the secondary heat exchanger.

These two slides are advantageously constituted by two coaxial flanges to the two housing for receiving the secondary heat exchanger.

Preferably, each of the flanges has two opposite annular faces, one of which is capable of coming into abutment against the wall of the water box and the other against a wall of the slide which is separated from the wall of the water box. from a distance slightly greater than the thickness of the collar.

Advantageously, the flange is attached to the body of the secondary heat exchanger by a cylindrical part of smaller diameter than that of the flange, the wall of the slide has a notch limited by two parallel edges opposite defining the direction in translation and which are separated by a distance substantially equal to the external diameter of the cylindrical part, the notch being open at one end to allow the introduction of the flange and being closed at its other end to form a stop.

The latter is advantageously formed by a semi-circular edge which connects the two parallel edges of the notch, the diameter of which is substantially equal to the diameter of the cylindrical part and the center of which is aligned with the center of a passage orifice. .

Thus, when the secondary heat exchanger is in abutment in the two slides, the two orifices for passage of the wall are rigorously aligned with the two receptacles for receiving the secondary heat exchanger.

It then suffices to attach the two connecting pipes by securing them to the secondary heat exchanger by any appropriate means, for example by screwing or by crimping.

  • Figure 1 est une demi-coupe en élévation d'une boîte à eau d'échangeur de chaleur principal contenant un échangeur de chaleur secondaire, conformément à la technique antérieure;
In the following description, made only as example, reference is made to the accompanying drawings, in which:
  • Figure 1 is a half section in elevation of a main heat exchanger water box containing a secondary heat exchanger, according to the prior art;
  • Figure 2 is a top view, through its open face, of a main heat exchanger water box containing a secondary heat exchanger according to the invention; and
  • Figure 3 is a sectional view along line III-III of Figure 2.

In this Figure, 1 designates a water box of a main heat exchanger, for example the water box of a radiator for cooling the coolant of a heat engine, this water box being intended to be assembled to a collecting plate 2 into which flow tubes 3 open.

The water box 1 internally contains a secondary heat exchanger generally designated by 4. The latter is intended to allow the cooling of a fluid different from that circulating through the tubes 3, for example the cooling of the oil. a gearbox.

The secondary heat exchanger 4 is, in the example, constituted by a stack of half-blades 5, 6, which are brazed together and which delimit at their ends elementary collecting chambers 7 which communicate with each other and with a distributor tube 8 forming at the same time drawing. The free end of this tube is engaged and brazed in a groove 10 of a support plate 11 in which two grooves 12 respectively 13 are provided.

Les rainures 12 et 13 sont destinées à contenir des joints annulaires 17 et 18.The secondary heat exchanger 4 is provided with two support plates 11 respectively 11a which have threads 14 coaxial with the geometric axes 15 of holes 16 provided in one of the side walls of the water box. The grooves 12 and 13 are intended to contain annular seals 17 and 18.

To allow the attachment of the secondary heat exchanger 4 to the water box 1, connection pipes 19 are provided, having a threaded part 20 which is screwed into the thread 14 of the corresponding support plate 11. Each tube has a crown 21 which comes to bear against the seal 12 of the corresponding support plate to ensure sealing. Beyond the crown 21, the connection pipe has a second thread 22 on which is screwed a nut 23 tightened against the external wall of the water box, to compress the seal. 18 against the internal what of this water box ensuring sealing.

Thus, in accordance with this prior technique, the secondary heat exchanger 4 is first placed inside the water box 1 so that the threads 14 of the support plates are aligned with the holes 16 in the box with water, the two connection pipes 19 are then screwed through their threaded part into the threads 14 and then the nuts 23 are screwed onto the threads 22.

As indicated previously, this known solution has drawbacks in that the precise positioning of the secondary heat exchanger 4 inside the water box 1 is difficult to achieve, and this all the more so as the external dimensions of the secondary heat exchanger 4 are very close to the internal dimensions of the water box 1.

L'invention permet d'éviter cet inconvénient, comme on le verra à l'examen des Figures 2 et 3.The invention makes it possible to avoid this drawback, as will be seen on examining Figures 2 and 3.

The water box 30 comprises two opposite side walls 32, 34 and two other opposite side walls 36 and 38, which are connected to a bottom wall 40. The four walls 32, 34, 36 and 38 together define an open face delimited by an edge 42 of rectangular outline serving, in a manner known per se, for assembling the water box on a collector (not shown).

The water box 30 internally contains a secondary heat exchanger designated as a whole by 44. The latter is intended to allow the cooling of a fluid different from that which circulates in the water box 30, for example the cooling of a gearbox oil.

The secondary heat exchanger 44 is, in the example, constituted by a stack of half-blades 46 and 48 which together constitute the body 50 of the heat exchanger 44. The latter comprises two distributor tubes 52 forming a tie, the free ends are connected to two rings 54 in the form of rings, coaxial with two distributor tubes 52, each of the flanges being connected to the body 50 of the heat exchanger by means of a cylindrical part 56, also in the form of a ring, of smaller diameter than the flange 54. Each of the tubes 52 , in combination with the collar 54 and the associated cylindrical part 56, internally define a housing (not shown) suitable for receiving a connection tube 58 attached from the outside. One of the pipes is used for the inlet of the fluid circulating in the secondary heat exchanger 44 and the other for the outlet of the same fluid.

Each of the pipes 58 is first introduced through a passage orifice 60 formed in the wall 32 of the water box and then in the corresponding receiving housing.

The wall 32 is provided, inside the water box, with two slides 62 located respectively in the region of the two orifices 60. These two slides are suitable for receiving respectively the flanges 54, forming a slide, to allow movement in translation of the secondary heat exchanger 44 along the wall 32 as far as a stop position where the two orifices 60 are aligned respectively with the two receiving housings of the secondary heat exchanger 44.

Each of the slides 62 comprises a wall 64 of generally rectangular shape which extends parallel to the wall 32 and which is separated from the latter by a distance slightly greater than the thickness of the collar 54 (FIG. 2). Each flange has two opposite annular faces: a face 66 adapted to bear against the internal face of the wall 32 and a face 68 adapted to bear against the internal face of the wall 64. The latter comprises a notch 70 limited by two substantially parallel edges 72 and 74, arranged opposite and defining the direction of translation of the slide. The edges 72 and 74 are separated by a distance substantially equal to the external diameter of the cylindrical wall 56 for its guidance in the direction of translation. The edges 72 and 74 are joined together by an edge 76 in a semicircle whose diameter is substantially equal to the diameter of the cylindrical part 56 and whose center is aligned with the center of the passage orifice 60 which is associated with it .

The notch 70 thus has an open end directed towards the side of the open face of the water box and a closed end directed towards the side of the bottom 40 of the water box. This closed end limited by the edge 76 forms a stop when the corresponding flange 56 is introduced.

The wall 64 of each slide is connected to the wall 32 of the water box by two parallel connecting edges 78 and 80 separated by a sufficient distance to allow passage to the flange 54 which thus forms a slide capable of sliding in this slide . On the other hand, this wall 64 is directly connected to the bottom wall 40 of the water box.

Avantageusement, la boîte à eau est formée à partir d' une matière plastique et les deux glissières sont également venues de moulage avec celle-ci.Advantageously, the water box is formed from a plastic material and the two slides have also been molded therewith.

To set up the secondary heat exchanger 44 inside the water box 30, it suffices to present the two flanges 54 opposite the free ends of the slides while applying the annular faces 66 of the two flanges against the face internal of the wall 32. It then suffices to move in translation the secondary heat exchanger 44 parallel to the wall 32 so that each of the cylindrical parts 56 abuts against the edge 76 in a semicircle of the slide. In the stop position, the two receiving housings of the secondary heat exchanger 44 are aligned respectively with the orifices 60 of the water box. It then suffices to attach the two pipes 58 by introducing each of them successively into the orifice 60 and into the corresponding creece reception housing of the exchanger of the heat exchanger 44.

The attachment of the two connecting pipes with the secondary heat exchanger 44 can be done for example by screwing as described in the document FR-A-2 549 593 already cited.

Although the invention has been described with particular reference to a water box comprising two slides suitable for receiving two slides, a water box could be designed comprising a single slide suitable for receiving a single slide provided on the body of the exchanger secondary heat.

The secondary heat exchanger contained in the water box is not necessarily a blade type exchanger as previously described. It could be constituted by a heat exchanger of another type, in particular by a multitubular exchanger.
