Abstract

In a liquid-application unit operating according to the refilling principle, the liquid which is to be fed via hoses is to be distributed uniformly over the working width. This took place previously by means of a reservoir space which is advantageously formed from a conically increasing retaining space, out of which the liquid runs onto the material web via an overflow edge and a guide surface. However, it is also essential with this low-volume liquid retaining space that the liquid be supplied uniformly over the working width, in particular when changing colour. In order to achieve this, individual liquid distribution spaces which extend one directly next to the other over the working width are defined in which uniformity is achieved by means of a forced distribution of the liquid from a feed opening to a number of outflow openings. This forced distribution takes place similarly to the structure of a family tree, namely in steps from one opening to two, four, eight, sixteen outflow openings and so on. <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to a device for applying a liquid film which is uniformly thin over the working width, laminarly flowing on a continuously moving web of material - preferably a large width - with a liquid distribution device fed with a liquid conveyed by a pump with a liquid distribution space and an associated, subsequent guide surface , from the lower edge of which the flowing liquid film runs onto the material web, the liquid distribution space being connected to a pump on the one hand via an inflow line and on the other hand extending to the guide surface over a working width which is larger than the cross section of the inflow line.

A device of this type is known from DE-A-35 22 320. It has the advantage that a quick change of the application liquid by type or color is possible with this device without the associated production loss or rejects of the web to be wetted, a uniform distribution and a constant amount of the application liquid being ensured over the working width. This is brought about by a liquid distribution space upstream of the guide surface, which is small in volume. In this way, the calming of the liquid inflow flow down to the guide surface, which is necessary to form a laminar liquid film, is achieved. The calming of the liquid inflow flow is necessary in such a device because the liquid volume within this liquid distribution space is only very small, but the amount of liquid applied over the working width of more than 30 l / min / m working width is very large and thus the inflow of liquid into this device is distributed over multiple inflow lines is very strong.

Working with a device of this type has shown that it is indeed possible to change the color quickly, but the transition between one and another color results in a small area on the web, in which the colors mix with one another.

The invention has for its object to develop a device with which the line of color change is now possible with a constant application area of the fast color change and a small liquid volume in an application device with the advantageous pouring principle and thereby still reduces the previously required liquid volume within the device can be.

Starting from the device of the type mentioned initially, the solution to the problem is that the distribution of the liquid from the inflow line to a plurality of outflow openings is gradually provided such that the inflow opening is connected on both sides in the working width direction to an equally long first branch line the respective end of which is provided with an intermediate outflow opening, which is followed in the same way by a second branch line, shorter by half of the first branch line and reduced in cross-section, on both sides in the working width direction, so that the liquid distribution in this liquid distribution device branches out several times like a family tree, and so that the fine Outflow openings distributed over the working width open into a connecting gap which extends over the working width of the web and opens into the liquid distribution space adjacent to the guide surface.

A device with a distribution of the liquid from an inflow line to a plurality of outflow openings stepwise in such a way that the inflow opening is connected on both sides in the working width direction to an equally long first branch line, at the respective end of which an intermediate outflow opening is provided, which is in the same way on both sides in the working width direction a second branch line, which is however shorter by half the first branch line and reduced in cross-section, is connected, so that the liquid distribution in this liquid distribution device branches out several times like a family tree U.S.-A-4,550,681 is known. A rotary screen printing machine is dealt with in this document. The printing paste released there by this distribution device is then pressed through a screen provided with holes for producing a pattern. In this respect, the tasks to be performed by a distribution device in a printing press are very different from those in a pouring device. In this case, the distribution device is used to produce a film that flows laminarly evenly across the working width, which of course is of no importance in a printing press. It is therefore the aim of the device according to the invention to bring about the calming and the lateral distribution of the liquid flowing in through the inflow line in the limited liquid distribution space, in such a way that there are no streaks of mixed colors when changing colors. Immediately after the distribution of the liquid, the laminar flowing film is produced by a correct connection of the distribution device to the guide surface. It is therefore no longer necessary to have the calming space still required according to the aforementioned publication, so that the volume of liquid required in the application device can be kept considerably lower.

A particularly advantageous way of designing the liquid distribution space with the branch tree-like branching of the liquid from the inflow line to the multiplicity of liquid outlet openings is that the branch lines extending in the working width direction and the intermediate outflow openings adjoining the end of this branch line are in the form of holes can be introduced into corresponding thin sheets. It is therefore particularly advantageous to form the liquid distribution device by a large number of such sheets and to arrange the branch lines and holes to be produced in these sheets according to a specific program such that there is a uniform, family tree-like branching of the lines from the inflow line to the large number of outflow openings that over the connection gap initially an overflow weir or equal are assigned to the guiding surface.

Die dargestellte Vorrichtung entspricht insofern der Auftragvorrichtung nach der DE-A-35 22 320.The liquid application device according to FIG. 1 consists of a carrier 1, the 90 ° corner of which is oriented upwards. One leg of the angle bracket is the baffle wall 2, which is oriented obliquely upwards in the direction of the overflow weir 3. The guide surface 4 adjoins the overflow weir 3, via which the uniformly distributed liquid film runs off and flows onto the material web 5 that runs along it. The web 5 is carried with the pile arranged upwards over a deflection roller 6. A solid body 7 is arranged on the side opposite the baffle wall 2, the wall of which is associated with the baffle wall 2 serves as a diffuser wall 8. This wall 8 can also be aligned parallel to the baffle wall 2, so that a slot 9 'is formed as a distribution space. Between the upwardly extending diffuser wall 8 and the baffle wall 2, the distribution chamber 9, which widens conically to the overflow weir 3, is formed. The distribution space can also run in the form of a slot without a cone, as shown in FIG. 4 or 5. The body 7 extends with the remaining parts of the paint applicator 1 over a working width of one to six meters and is only provided with a few inflow hoses 10 over this working width, via which the required amount of liquid is fed to the applicator with a pump, not shown. In this respect, the device shown corresponds to the application device according to DE-A-35 22 320.

What is essential in the device shown in FIG. 1 is the liquid distribution system which is arranged in the body 7. The hose 10 is placed over a mouthpiece 11 which is held in the body 7 in the area of the reference number 12 and is screwed with its lower end into the so-called liquid distribution device 13. The liquid distribution device can also be oriented perpendicular to the baffle wall 2 and not parallel to the baffle wall - as shown in FIG. 5. This liquid distribution device 13 is shown in detail in FIGS. 2 and 3. It consists of a plurality of sheets 14, which are arranged parallel to each other and pressed together after assembly. In the uppermost plate 15 of this liquid distribution device 13, only one hole is drawn, which forms the liquid inflow opening 16 of a branch line 18, 19 of limited working width according to FIGS. 2 and 3. According to FIG. 2, a liquid distribution system extends from each of the liquid inflow openings 16 to the lower side of the individual liquid distribution device 13, which extends over an exact working width, but which is only a fraction of the total width of the application device.

The distribution of the liquid flowing in through the inflow opening 16 takes place in the liquid distribution device, which is filled by the individual sheets 14. In the exemplary embodiment shown, this distribution device has eight sheets 14 arranged parallel to one another, which results in a distribution of the liquid flowing in through the inflow opening 16 over a total of sixteen liquid outflow openings 17. This is achieved in that the distribution of the liquid width from sheet to sheet is gradually forced. For this purpose, first branch lines 18, 19 of equal length are arranged on both sides of the liquid inflow opening 16 in the working width direction - according to FIG. 2 both to the right and to the left - an intermediate outflow opening 20, 21 is provided at the respective end of the latter. These two intermediate outflow openings 20, 21 are drilled in the sheet 14 arranged underneath. These two intermediate outflow openings 20, 21 are connected in the same way, in turn, on both sides in the working width direction by half the second branch lines 22, 23, so that the liquid distribution is similar to a family tree or a deer antler branched several times, exactly evenly across the working width. In order not to have to build too many suction hoses 10 over the entire working width, approximately 10 to 20 of the liquid outflow openings 17 should belong to one of these liquid distribution devices at a mutual distance of approximately 10 mm.

Since the liquid flowing into the liquid inflow opening 16 must be distributed over a multiplicity of liquid outflow openings 17, the cross sections from this liquid inflow opening 16 to the liquid outflow openings 17 must be gradually reduced. This is shown in Figure 3. The cross section of the intermediate outflow opening 20, 21 following the liquid inflow opening 16 is halved. Accordingly, the respectively assigned first branch lines 22, 23 are also narrower in cross section than the previous first branch line 18 or 19.

It was stated above that the liquid distribution device is formed from a plurality of sheets 14 arranged parallel to one another, each of which has either an intermediate outflow opening 20, 21 or a branch line 18, 19, 22, 23. To form this pedigree-like branching of the liquid, the bores 20, 21 and, as elongated holes, the branch lines 18, 19, 22, 23 are introduced into the individual sheets at such points that this pedigree-like branching according to FIG. 2 results after assembly.

The division of the entire working width from 1 to 5 m into such areas, which corresponds to a liquid distribution device shown in FIG. 2, has the advantage that the liquid supplied through the hoses 10 can be distributed exactly evenly over a large working width. Depending on the working width of the web 5, it is then also possible to define the effective working width of the ink application device by switching off individual supply hoses 10. The more important advantage of achieving the compulsorily uniform distribution of the liquid over the working width, however, is without being able to manage a common larger storage space which extends over the working width. Those from the liquid outlets 17 Evenly emerging liquid only accumulates in the connecting gap 24 which now extends over the entire working width of the web. A dynamic pressure arises there because this connecting gap 24 is followed by a liquid distribution space 25, which also extends over the working width and whose flow height is smaller than the depth of the connecting gap 24.

From the liquid distribution chamber 25, the liquid comes from the liquid distribution device 13, distributed uniformly over the working width. As a result, the larger liquid distribution chamber 9 shown in FIG. 1 is only necessary to a limited extent. To clarify this advantage, we refer to FIG. 4. There, the liquid distribution device 13 is only assigned a guide surface in the form of a guide plate 27, through which the liquid distributed evenly over the working width by the liquid distribution device 13 flows after flowing through the distribution space 25 to the web 5. The distribution space 25 can be formed in a simple manner between this last plate 26 with the connecting gap 24 and the guide plate 27. In this embodiment, not only the solid body 7 with the larger liquid distribution space 9 is omitted, but also the overflow edge 3 together with the baffle wall 2, rather only the baffle plate 27 is required to drain the evenly distributed liquid onto the web 5. As a result, the volume of liquid always filled in the distribution device 13, better even in the application device as a whole, is considerably reduced, which enables the desired rapid color change with a sharp color change line.
